When demonstrating himself, A.Pappano, the non-singer, uses falsetto and speaks of making the voice smaller around the f, thus laying the ground for opening it up for the high notes. Then Kaufmann, the singer, demonstrates that he doesn't make the voice smaller nor uses falsetto at that point, but covers the note to then glide into the high b flat. And yes, it is not seamless i.e. non- audible. That's physically not possible and can be heard with every singer. Caruso was an outstanding example. Covering a note avoids the harsh sound at that junction. Melocchi style-trained singers are actually the ones who don't use the cover technique or try at least to shift the onset of a slight cover as far out as possible.
Few years ago, when Mr. bean was still okay to sing, you would him singing the passagio seamlessly. Now, where is he? Mr. bean was teaching how to sing/ deal with the passagio.

Can't call it "seamless negotiation" of the passagio, when in A-MOR the A and the MOR sound like two different voices completely. Kaufmann always overcovers, and on notes heavier voices than his would sing openly easily.

Kaufmann no es un referente técnico, aunque su naturaleza le permite, pero engolar nunca ha sido la mejor opción para hacerse escuchar en un teatro sin micrófonos auxiliando.
@@GersonHM4 abrir, bajar la larínge y aceptar las sensaciones que llegan cuando no estás acostumbrado a hacerlo. Entre más bajas y abres la laringe, el agudo se vuelve más sencillo, yo soy tenor de medio pelo y logro sin mayores dificultades el Bb4, de hecho mi nota más alta es el E5.

Yo permanecí ciego respecto a la técnica hasta que me interné en la técnica de los cantantes antiguos (Merril, Del Monaco, Tebaldi, Corelli) y entendí dos cosas, no hay voz de cabeza y el squillo (Inexistente ahora) son lo que guía las buenas técnicas. Saludos.

It's only marketing, because Kauffman's voice is the "gola", but Pappano is a good director!
He represents a whole class of conductors that are destroying opera singers. Shame. And Kaufmann is of them.
