I also thought you played incredibly as a multi-game streamer This was so sweaty... if we're in Slam 2 we cook for sure I will change my sleep schedule to match yours 😂 GGs coach
to quote Sajam: "you know what the [streamers] biggest complaint about the Slam was? YOU!" The backseating was crazy, but luckily in the end, it seemed like everyone of the Slammers got way better, and it was a super fun event to watch overall
The amount of back seating was so toxic, and most of it wasn't even helpful advice x.x I don't know who Esfand is outside of this tournament, but that must've rough. I wanted to see him win a set at least once xD
As a fan it's a great event. Because as someone who buys fighting games and sucks at them because execution it was neat to see people never touching the game being given proper steps (also varied ways of basic learning since the coaches were all different in how they started people out) on how to learn a character starting out. I also found some new streamers to follow when jumping around watching everyones progress. Good to see you used the experience to improve your own coaching.
There's an alternate reality where rather than Sykkuno getting fucked over by TV lag in the first set at Twitchcon, instead Sykkuno gets fucked over by TV lag in the first set at Twitchcon.
I love the self-review Going over what was done and what can be done better is always a great way to improve Everyone getting better and having fun feels good seeing
I feel a little bad since I did backseat once. I told LilyPichu to do the 50/50 after she lands medium windstock a couple times, because she hit it constantly, which I think is absolutely the correct thing to do and its coming from my perspective as a 1700-1800 Lily, but now seeing the sheer tidal wave of bullshit chat was feeding the streamers, it was ultimately probably just kinda annoying and completely indiscernible from terrible advice for a newer player.
Funny enough when I coached lily this is the main thing I taught her that she used (and showed off during finals). It’s not that this advice was and, but that it was surrounded by a bunch of shit or unhelpful stuff lol
@@Diaphone I was happy to see her do it during the finals. Didn't realize it was you. Good job. And I watched a little bit of one of Amour's degen endurance streams and literally the first thing I saw someone say was wrong, confused her, and she had to spend time figuring out what the truth was. I didn't realize it was nonstop -- for some reason I thought the SF community was a bit more savvy than this regarding knowing what they don't know, but maybe there was some crossover with casual players who just like vtubers.
Lily's chat truly had some of the worst advice I've seen. Obviously not talking about you specifically, but while there were some good things in there, and some almost good things in there, most of it was pure drivel. I think next time, they just need to be warned low level player give bad advice all around, and that they should stick to coaching advice from actual coaches.
One thing I really like about the Sajam Slam is that, from the audience's perspective there's way more of an actual story being developed with the players than you get with normal esports. You get to understand their backgrounds and training before they fight and it gives more weight to the matches. Kinda reminds me of wrestling, except instead of being scripted, you have the audience seeing Dokibird one-and-done as many people as possible.
BoxBox is such a goober man, I played him online a few times before the slam and I could see the improvement as the week went on, but at the same time, his brain just works a different way man 😅 His brain is simply too large for me to comprehend I guess. Anyway, you did a great job Diaphone! Hope to see you at more events like this.
Honest to god, teaching/coaching is a hard job! But it's really cool to see what you took away here, something that i def need to think about myself even for something as small as teaching my friends how to play characters, etc.
Dude you are crazy good at so many different fighting games, I think you guys played really well. It was great to see you in one of the Sajam Slams, it's one of my favorite events in the FGC.
This is why we need more events like Sajam Slam. It helps beginners and coaches improve. We don't have to do high-level gameplay for every tournament. We need more beginner tournaments.
Brian_F had a hella dad buff for that set. If you hear him talk about his feelings going into it, he was HYPED to play. You could really tell he was feeling himself going into the set and it really showed in his play against you. I think you win most days, but you put up an awesome to watch fight against maybe the biggest and most confident Brian I've seen in a tournament set.
Great video :D Do want to point out that Brawlpro was not a Street Fighter player though and was just a Tekken player. Granted he had more playtime before Phi did because of Phi's scheduling
Yeah I remember with Lily’s practice in Tekken she’d get so heated at chat cuz they’d all be backseatin’ telling her what to do and what she’s doing isn’t optimal. Problem is we ain’t these people. And learning I believe should be slow, deliberate, and fun. Having all these info crows coming in overloading you with mixed info and judging you must be crazy annoying and distracting. “Well what I woulda done-” type shit
I would love to see you coach or even just participate in the slam again. My friend got into SF6 due to the slam, and as someone who already loves fighting games, it makes me so happy to finally have someone to talk about them with. We're actually making plans to go to Evo next year which I'm super excited for!
I thought you all did great! I agree I think the cash prize was not a great idea given the two Tekken slams didn’t have it and people seemed to feel a little more chill. I know Sajam was pretty outspoken about not having a cash prize before so people could just be involves out of pure interest so i assume something had to be added for this one to secure Twutch spobsorship ir something. :(
I really hope the toxic backseating didn't turn the streamers off from the game too much and they continue with SF6 going forward. Because you could tell they were having a ton of fun with the actual game itself.
A certain fighting game content creator, commentator, and TO once talked about how he tried to get the big-name companies to sponsor an event and they didn't believe, so he decided to start it up on a grassroots level. So if you think a roblox tekken event would slap.... I'm just sayin...
I think the second day of the slam I was in Phi's chat trying to help him understand drive gauge in minor ways like whenever he'd level 3 in a match, he was always unsure if it was a good idea even if it gave him drive gauge advantage and i tried to convey that but i stopped talking in chat all together after a while cause it felt terrible trying to convey this idea in a sea of other people conveying their own ideas of how this stuff works. Ultimately I just felt guilty for being part of a crowd that caused the players so many issues in the end and I hope for the next slam there's less frustration with the backseating or chat all together.
Definitely develop anti-chat frameworks and hammer home why they need to ignore chat in favor of your advice and why, while learning when they are new. That's a great streamer specific takeaway.
I think the way you approached your video about what to learn for each rank would have been a really solid way to coach for new slammers. I think Phi burned himself out by grinding things like crosscuts for hours instead of focusing more on general strategy and execution of moves and combos that are more widely applicable. You can get to master without crosscuts.
My two cents as you’ve mentioned, 1)outsourced some coaching session. Even if you’re emotionally invested in them as a coach, it helps for them to broaden their perspective. 2) maybe enter more tournaments yourself during the Salam slam period to sharpen yourself before the Slam. It seems like coach matches still weighs quite heavily during the ties, and you’re up against people who are active pro players chasing tournament cups rather than retired pro players. Better luck next time!
Didn't you guys come in second though? I mean that's great, don't beat yourself up! Everyone in it learned something and as long as you all had fun, I'd call it a success. And you've got some good prize money and a lot of new tech for the next team you coach. ggs!
You did well enough diaphone, a shame that one of my fav content creator eliminate another of mine, but glad to see this community grow I feel that's what matters the most out of this tournament.

Hi Dia!
They wont be ready for Diaphone in HXH Nen Impact Slam
Diaphone has a video where he explained how he lost and what to learn
Now Brian F needs a video where he explains how he won and is the best coach
From what I saw everyone played really well and it looked fun as hell just one thought, anyone ever feel like they need a coach really badly?
Ehhhhhh sparking zero!
Idk if boxbox is new to fighting games considering the amount of hours he has on riven
BoxBox becoming a Riven main is mainly because he used to play fighting game before league
Im shocked Brian_F did great in this match here but not in twitchcon
Is Shine not a strive player or am i thinking of a different player?
He plays both apparently, liquidpedia shows results for sf5 and 6 and strive
Now try MVC2 🤣
