sounds just a tad too low on idle

Too gentle, increase your idle, your plugs gonna load up and foul giving you more problems, ride it like you stole it!

You just don't understood of that fucking ironhead drama. By the way the owner had tune the carburetor well. It increases a good potato sound, hard to find but he won the game

Lots of comments on here from folks who've never owned an iron head. They are cold natured as hell. If he had flogged her up and down the road just a little and warmed it up, she'd of idled just fine. I'm just glad to see a true "cold" start. Lots and lots of videos that are of supposedly cold starts are actually a bike that has been warmed up and running for ten minutes before the camera ever got turned on. This video is what actually occurs when you come out on a cold morning with a hangover and fire up the sporty. I'm impressed with how quick she went to idling. Put a CV on it and it'll do even better.

slowpokebr549 this guy has it easy. My little Sportsters have been Extra Large Charlie Horses (XLCH), and kick only. They usually start on the 2nd, 3rd, or 27th kick.
Of course, that was the 80s. Never had a fancy Super E on one with a pump. Always a B. Talk about a strong right leg (and sometimes hyperextended knee)!
Putting together a 1974 now. Haven't had a little XL for a long, long time.

Thank You. I am thinking to change S&S carb, it doesnt work properly even after many adjustments ...

Roolis77 I have had really good luck putting Evo CV carbs on Iron Sportsters and Shovelheads. Even had one on my old 64 Pan with good results. Because Iron Sportsters don't pull as much negative pressure at idle and lower rpm as an Evo, you will want to change the CV's pilot to a larger size like a 48 to 52 (normally a 40 or 42 if I remember right), and put in a much smaller main. Can't remember the size they are. Iron Sportsters need to run a lot richer than Evos too, especially at lower throttle positions, so the richer pilot is necessary, and as the pilot is still moving fuel when the main is running, the main needs to be leaned up.
Looks like you have an E on there already.
Anyway, if you can find a CV cheap enough, it works well. Like an old SU, but not temperamental.
      Ride on!

Great bike, great sound, great look. This has become the bike of my dreams. However, overly low idle speed equals overly low engine oil pressure, which equals overly decreased engine life. For this great bikes sake, please increase idle speed just a little. It would probably actually sound a little healthier too.

Honestly, when I’m drunk and walk back home, sometimes I start this video to just listen to this engine, my wife can’t beat this. I know it’s running a bit to fast idle but fuck what a nice noise is coming through those pipes.

Hds sound good but most people set the idle too low, and that over time ruins the engine, i believe about 800 rpm is as low as i would go and that is really low because of oil pressure mainly. I would want at least 7psi at hot idle...

    • @gabrielhearn2274
      @gabrielhearn2274 ปีที่แล้ว

A early 70s ironhead is only supposed to idle between 700 and 900.

You should have you idle at 1100 RPM, so you get proper oiling through the engine. And it won't keep staling on you.

Don’t hammer em cold in cold weather. Yeah we know cold dense air makes em run like they are supercharged but that first backfire tells you you’ve gaulded a valve stem, just as well pop the heads install new guides and valves, and let her idle while you chug a sud or do a coffee, then bust out !

Hello , Thanks for watching! my battery is in cm: 8,5x17Wx15 H , its 21 ah. But I have so much space down below that I can easily fit as big as 10x20Wx18H. I have bolt on hardtail , where bottom rails are bolted and top rails are welded . I bought this hard tail kit in US for 160 usd if I am not mistaken on ebay.

I have owned a 115 ss twin chop and a few ironheads! There is nothing like a ironhead. The shovelhead is a big twin and it is only 1200 cc same thing as a pan or a knuckle. So go to the jap bike section now and insult them too. I had a r6 that would destroy the Harley’s any day and it is only 600 cc’s
