    So glad you had an assist on that engine identification...6.0 diesel would have been a horrible thought. I personally have a 2000 Chevy Silverado 2500 also with the 6.0 gas. It's all stock and original...to my knowledge. I am the 2nd owner and currently have just over 433k miles. Love it!

      Yeah, sometimes weird things come out! Nice, keep it going!

    My 2016 crew cab Chevy 4x4 with the 6.0 gasser typically gets 9-10mpg in town. 14-15mpg on the highway. All stock (except muffler delete pipe) and unloaded.

    Damn that's better mpg then my 2017 3500 dually stock with the 6.0 gasser.,...I think my average is like 9.6mpg currently

    10.31 is an excellent 1/4 mile time to shoot for in the turbo GMC!!!

      Going to have to put it on a diet for that time! It's a goal though!

    Idk if you have your speedometer/odometer reset for the size of your tires compared to stock but if you don’t then you actually are traveling almost 15% (14.9%) further than your odometer says. So in this case you actually got 11.85 mpg. Not bad!

    • @slow_restoration
      @slow_restoration  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, it is calibrated to the tires. It's not dead on but close.

    10.3 MPG for mostly highway seems a bit low, but maybe it wasn't mostly highway? Extra idle definitely sucks the fuel on these 6.0 even stock.

    • @slow_restoration
      @slow_restoration  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeh, it wasn't the most accurate test, but I got a lot of questions on what a 680 WHP truck gets. It's so hard to say because it doesn't get driven enough.

    I just turbo’d my stock 2001 1500hd pickup. Last tank I averaged just under 12mpg. It’s on 32” tires and leveled so nothing crazy. Currently on about 12 lbs. it’s really hard to keep my foot out of it for fuel economy lol. Just a basic eBay setup, gt45, cast iron log manifold and stock cam still. Super happy with how driveable it is though.

      My 95 Suburban is currently in the works for the same thing, only difference is hardware. Pulled the 6.5 diesel out of it (yuck) and dropping in a 5.3. Currently waiting on pistons and high stall converter. 4l80e of course and a short 14-bolt rear end already in the truck. Thinking maybe 12 psi would be a good healthy start? Lol

    So don't your valve springs float at 16lbs? That's a bit of boost. I have read that on stock heads with factory springs they have issues after 12lbs. A screw is in my future, just have to figure out over all cost. I figure probably 4 grand would get me there.

    So 10.3 x 34 gal tank with calibrated speedo for tires, cam, mods 11-12.0mpg x 34 = 374-408 on a tank. That still better than what I'm getting but could possibly get that with a light foot. BUT...adding a turbo would be more funner and damnit I want one so I still win!

    I'm not really getting it.. Is turbocharged trucks are better MPG? I have 2006, 6.2 Chevy 3500, and Im planning to turbocharged just for having better fuel consumption, I drive it on highways mostly so no rough acceleration, do you think it will help if I do?

    • @slow_restoration
      @slow_restoration  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The trick is keeping your foot out of it! It's tough because all the power you add! A turbo does make it more efficient but I don't know if it would pay for itself with the expense of the system and price to install it. That's why most new vehicles have a turbo or supercharger from the factory because you can make them more efficient.

    • @rashedqhtany9015
      @rashedqhtany9015 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@slow_restoration thanks for your reply, indeed that what I was mostly thinking about, how hard you accelerate is really the trick 😜, however most of my friends have another opinion on that, but now you confirmed my thoughts.
      God bless you dear, I really like the work you did in your truck by the way.

  • @davidcerone3998

    just out of curiosity who did your tune and did you have to put in a different ECU or anything like that

    • @slow_restoration
      @slow_restoration  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nelson performance did the tune, still stock ECU.

    • @davidcerone3998
      @davidcerone3998 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      was Nelson able to do it remotely via email, and did you have to install a wideband o2 sensor for them to tune it?

    • @slow_restoration
      @slow_restoration  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They send a tuned ECU out and you swap it in your truck then send yours back as a core.

    • @davidcerone3998
      @davidcerone3998 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      excellent, did you use stock injectors, on my 2016 sierra they are 50 lb/hr @58 psi, it's also accepts e85 which is why they are rated at that, would you suggest getting in contact with nelson first and telling them the goals for the sts and then order the kit?

    if i put a turbo in my 2010 Silverado will it make the stutututut noise ?

    • @auditrevor
      @auditrevor ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s turbo flutter, you actually don’t want that noise to happen because your blow off valve is workout efficiently enough to vent the pressure and stop it from spinning the compressor wheel backwards. The closer your put the bov to the turbo itself the better it works.

    Debadge it. Too much junk hanging off of it. Clean sides and a bigger tire will make it look a lot better. The stock mirrors are hideous. The big sticker on the back window is throwing everything off.
