  • At the beginning of the 20th century, some composers from the American continent made an effort to strengthen their ties and their international presence. Among them were percussion pioneers such as Edgar Varèse, Amadeo Roldán or the Cuban-based Spaniard José Ardévol, who composed the Study as a prelude and fugue for 37 instruments in 1934.
