      Sweet lookin little knife. I was also thinking of buying The Lil Native Frankie but now it's a toss up lol. The only reason Id still go for The Lil Native is the Compression Lock. I don't own any Spyderco knives yet and that locking system seemed very interesting to me. Witch would you guys say is the better small compression lock knife. The Para-military 3 or The Lil Native. I'd like to get both but I just ordered 2 knives off Massdrop and I have to try and keep this Habit oops I mean Hobby under control 😈😉

    The chappy is kind of the next generation Delica, imo. The upgraded stock steel, the finger choil, the next level fit and finish, all while retaining that insane, precision cutting edge. The Delica and Endura are the masterpieces of the Japanese facility (even though I’m more of a dragonfly guy, myself...the Delica is just impossible to argue with)...and the Chaparral is Taiwan’s Delica in every imaginable sense.

  • @docsol22

    I bought the Chaparral instead of the Delica. It is a better knife in may ways and it slices so well. With the increase in price of the Delica it is not the value it once was.

    I love this knife and carry as my EDC. It fits perfectly in my hand. I bought it at the Sydney knife show and was able to compare it to many other Spyderco's and also many other brands and types of knives and I chose the chaparral for my edc 5th pocket but it does chew up my belts when sitting

    After many months and many purchases, the Chaparral in CF is still my favorite EDC. I recognize it may not be for everyone, but I love it. It is a great size for EDC; has great fit and finish befitting its gentleman's carry intent; is incredibly sharp and slicey; and has such great ergonomics. Personally I quite like backlocks, with their secure feel and solid engagement. Liner locks, not so much. I've broken in the Chap's lock to the point it is smooth as butter, so it makes a great one-handed fidget spinner now. And yes, it probably helps that I have thick thumbs with which to operate the relatively thin lock of this blade :)

    Intriguing. The Delica has been one of my favorite EDC knives for so long, I may need to give this one a try.

    Received mine a couple days ago and honestly it has been easy to flick open with thumb both left or right handed and spydie flick as well only thing I did was add a couple drops kpl on both sides to washers and a drop along the lock bar opening haven’t disassembled it whatsoever except put the clip on the opposite side. mind you I really dislike the clip even would say hate it just horrible imho thanks to your reviews and nick amongst others helped my purchase ;)
    oh yeah I can have it drop semi shut also which I’m surprised since most reviews complain about that oh I have large to xl hands width wise not long

    Great video I always enjoy your channel. Not a lot of FRN type handled knives that run thin with higher end blade steel, and have the full forward finger choil. This ones a definite win. Steel Will Cutjack is also a good similar option at a budget cost with these sort of features, but as a linerlock flipper as I'm sure you well know. I've also been looking for linerlocks and lockbacks that come in titanium liners (and just whatever handle material), but haven't found a lot of them yet. None of the online knife stores seem to have that filter option to make that search easy.

    This is a knife I was always peripherally aware of but just kind of ignored until one came up for trade and I thought “Why not?”. When I finally got it in hand I was blown away. Now I’m looking up videos because I’m thinking to myself “Why aren’t more people talking about this knife???”. Turns out they have been, I just wasn’t listening. 😬

    Finally broke down and purchased a Para 3. Came in today. Thought I wasn’t gonna like a small knife but it’s definitely growing on me. Not a big fan of the lock back/FRN combo. I can deal with the FRN in the Manix 2 because it has the Spyderco Axis Lock. Plus, gotta Spydee Flick man! Wire Clip rocks!

      @ Treeboss Mike... I am thrilled to now have a Manix 2 (G10/skeletonized) in CPM Cru-Wear for blade edge stability in harder use situations (if they ever come up for a folder vs. my fixed blades!)... but no question, the FRCP (not FRN) version is much better balanced in hand and wins the day in carry and in use for, by far, most typical EDC situations... especially now with the BD1N blade steel, kept well (and easily) maintained. It's a winner -- and, true, still fidget-worthy -- after almost a decade!

    Big Spyderco fan here the first generation Endura started it all for me which I still have. It was called the Clip It Endura because it was one of the first pocket knives to have a pocket clip which was molded plastic. Great knife great company

    Backlock is not a negative...
    just different action than a framelock.
    Titanium backlock is very cool...something you don't see too often,
    the Chaparral 3 step blue titanium is an excellent example,
    one of the very best Spydercos made.

    The Chaparral is my first Spyderco and I love this knife. I like everything about it, except the release button. It is much stiffer than it needs to be (in my opinion). The pattern on the scales is grippy, but not too much, and has a unique feel. I don't like a wire clip on any of my pocket knives; I want the knife IN the pocket. The Chaparral is so thin and light weight you don't even know you're carrying it. It is now my EDC.

    I have the Chaparral in CF. It is a great slicey suit knife. You can't flick it open. Holds a great edge. It works well for most average office-level cutting task. Tops for cutting fruit! However, that thin blade isn't suitable for all cutting tasks. It just isn't robust enough. My Sage 1 is a much better all-rounder. I carried the Cat for many years as the Dragonfly's handle is just too small for me. Now I'm using the Sage for EDC, the Chaparral as a classy suit knife and the PM2 (Burple, 110V) for field use.

    I still love the Delicas and don't mind VG10.. The Chap looks too small for my big hands.. About 8 years ago, I started out collecting almost all Spyderco.. I sold at least 20.. I've come around full circle.. My last 4 purchases have been a Centafone 3, Manix 2 LW, 3rd Delica, G10 Dragonfly 2..

I love the blade but that's it, everything is rough on it, it just doesn't feel like a knife you'd want to use for more than a few cuts. And I really don't like the blade finish, or lack of one, I can feel the grind lines in it. It's angry and doesn't like being held, like a mean hedgehog or something.

    • @frederickj.7702
      @frederickj.7702 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @ Rick Temmen... Don't believe anecdotes floating around the internet from people who don't know how to treat knives properly. For almost any sort of *common EDC task* , the thin blade stock has very little to do with it chipping or not -- what you *WANT* in a knife like this is thin behind the edge, *regardless* of blade stock thickness overall. Are you going to join the idiots and use a small EDC folder like this as a pry bar?! If so, you deserve what you get. If not, why are you worrying about a blade stock thickness of .08"? My 3.75" blade Mora Classic 1 carbon is a *UTILITY* and bushcrafting knife... as is my 3.89" Bahco 2444 stainless (Mora made)... and *both* have .08" blade stock. Run that over in your mind for awhile.

      @ Glenn Goins... The UK Penknife (UKPK) has a great, versatile leaf blade shape only about 1/16 of an inch short of 3" (for legality's sake, esp. in the UK), which is USA made and comes in one of the currently "hot topic" blade steels as more people learn about it -- easy to maintain and quite corrosion resistant BD1N. It is solid in use and weighs less than the Chaparral at just under 1.80 ounces! And at $58, how can you go wrong? There's an answer for you!
      I recently acquired the Heinie Haynes UK exclusive limited edition version UKPK in deep red linerless G10, and it is shaping up as my preferred EDC carry 3"-er along with the Native 5 Salt. On mine, the blade's "Slip-it" detent based "semi-lockup" (in effect) and the blade-handle geometry make a full lockup superfluous in most uses. And this one's faster to deploy and then close & pocket than my Chaparral any day!

    Well hey y'all. So I found a spyderco paring knife. Was gonna grab that for 25bucks.decided on waiting and will be getting this chaparral for 87...i am gonna be using it in the kitchen. I still need to get a sharpening system. Probably will get the smith's tri stones for now. I've been having knives since I was a kid. Never ever got a sharpening system or stone till I went to culinary school. Then I only got a stone to bring the edge back. Not anything to create a new edge. Crazy huh.

      What's small about a Manix 2, an Endela, a Stretch or Stretch 2, an Endura, or a Military? It sounds like you have enough fancy pry bars and manly jewelry already... so why not try a much more tote-able, better slicing, practical *EDC* oriented knife for EDC once in awhile? You can just wear a prestige watch showing on those days you pick up the 'humble' FRN stuff! ;-) Trust me, almost nobody else but you is gonna care about ZT vs. whatever anyway for longer than it takes for a courtesy bit of flattery... at the most. And I'd take the back lock security of my Stretch in use over the lockup reliability of many (most?) ZTs' just about any day of the week. Embrace the Hole, Jonathan.

    You guys gotta work on your opening skills! Haha I will also never understand peoples obsession with handle thickness... To me the main thing that matters for carryability is the closed height at the widest and at the area near the pocket clip. That is what effects being able to reach past a knife to access a wallet, etc. Handle Width has never been a noticeable thing to me unless its ridiculously wide like an opinel or something crazy like that. Under 0.60" I don't really care. Awesome video as always!

    Meh....I sold mine. I too "HAD" to have a Chaparral. I got the Raffir Noble because of the cool Acryllic/Brass handle. I bought it, handled it and sold it IMMEDIATELY! The handle was cool looking but offered zero traction/grip/purchase. The blade was way too short. It's a lockback which I've been steering clear of - I prefer flippers. Bird, I'm surprised you took such a liking to this.

    • @BirdShotIV
      @BirdShotIV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mainly from a user standpoint, yes, this one is excellent. Everyone is mentioning the Raffir Noble scaled version, we need to handle one of those.

    What do people who own 100's of knives mean when they say "we use this one a lot"? Having owned one carry knife for years, I'm not really "using it" everyday. I mean how much cutting on things do people do everyday? Are you shelf stockers opening 100's of cardboard boxes everyday?

    • @BirdShotIV
      @BirdShotIV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some people need to use knives CONSTANTLY throughout the day. Some go through life never using a knife. We're somewhere in the middle lol

    • @Ramblequist
      @Ramblequist 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BirdShotIV I kinda think "collectors" classify flipping them open, or fawning on them as "using them". I've had occupations where I used knives all day, and none of the knives were even close to what people carry as EDC knives.

      Been tempted by the carbon fiber version for well over a year now. Gonna have to let the idea of this one roll around in the 'ol noggin for a few days. Might end up getting one as well. The steel, size, weight, and price, make it pretty compelling. It would get pocket time for sure.

      BirdShot IV I have a Victorinox cadet, but I lost it somewhere around the house recently, so I've been carrying a standard "Mini" Victorinox knife.
      I was looking at the Lck or the Caligo from crkt. But if I need a larger pocket knife to carry, I have a Camillus multi tool from 1969 an unknown steel, but it holds a decent edge

      @ blitzbbffl... Answer: 3.22" blade length, sensible EDC blade stock thickness, cutting edge not eaten away by choil, better than Spyderco S30V performance (?)... at 1.80 ounces carry weight. Match that spec, arachnids. BTW, Spyderco fan and owner here.
