Totally agree with changing driving laws. When i was in high school 20 years ago all students had drivers ed as a credited class. I have a son now learning to drive. It is no longer a class. Parents must pay 400 for their child to have drivers ed outside school hours. Im blessed enough i paid the 400 so my son would know the laws and rules. Yet January i will have to set him loose on the roads with other kids who have had no drivers education. Not the children's fault as many parents cant afford the program. The thing that keeps going through my head is that the immigrants do not know any better. They are used to their lives in Haiti. Are they open to learning the expectations of their new community? I would think they came here to get away from their oppressive government regime and would be teachable. The issue is the sheer numbers. Are there leaders that can facilitate classes that would help them learn? It is not unlike an abused child who has been kept in a closet all their life and are suddenly let out of the closet; they would need support to learn how to be a ‘human.’ Same principle here. The question becomes how to facilitate their education. It’s a daunting task for 1/3 of the community with a cultural and language barrier.

Totally agree with changing driving laws. When i was in high school 20 years ago all students had drivers ed as a credited class. I have a son now learning to drive. It is no longer a class. Parents must pay 400 for their child to have drivers ed outside school hours. Im blessed enough i paid the 400 so my son would know the laws and rules. Yet January i will have to set him loose on the roads with other kids who have had no drivers education. Not the children's fault as many parents cant afford the program. Yet you can still have a license without program. We need better laws and drivers ed brought back as a credited class that everyone has the opportunity to attend. Resident of Indiana.

Or are they just handing out licenses like candy? If yes, why? That’s a serious question that needs answering. Otherwise other people will continue to be hurt or killed. I’m not being hateful. The thing that keeps going through my head is that the immigrants do not know any better. They are used to their lives in Haiti.
Are they open to learning the expectations of their new community? I would think they came here to get away from their oppressive government regime and would be teachable. The issue is the sheer numbers. Are there leaders that can facilitate classes that would help them learn?
It is not unlike an abused child who has been kept in a closet all their life and are suddenly let out of the closet; they would need support to learn how to be a ‘human.’ Same principle here.
The question becomes how to facilitate their education. It’s a daunting task for 1/3 of the community with a cultural and language barrier.
