The Waterman Carene is to my mind an attractive, albeit small, form. If you have a few pens and want variety, then the Carene is going to fill a niche that isn't contested. I have a sea blue and gold beauty with a stub nib. The pen writes as it looks, smoothly and with flair. Waterman quality control is good. The French haven't messed up the old American brand. They took a foundering pen line with dowdy style references and elevated it to stylistic relevance. This can't be said about other American born brands. Glad you like yours.
Congratulations on your new Black Carene. I've had mine for over a year after searching for a good price for a couple of additional years. This Black Sea model has a Fine nib, but seems to me that it writes like a Medium. Perhaps it's because it is so stiff, and I write heavily when I'm unaware of how much pressure I'm applying. More flexible nibs pretty much force me to ease up. I'm interested to know what you think of the comparison between the Medium and the Fine after you've had both for a while. I tend toward Mediums myself, except in this case. It is also as broad as is an Asian Medium; seems to me. Cultural differences, and I have acquired more Asian fountain pens than European examples. Thank you for your unboxing thoughts. Interesting.
This pen is such a beauty! I'm so surprised more people don't have it in their collections. It's a juicy medium writer and really makes the ink vibrancy really stand out. I'm interested to see your future pen and ink pairings.
I'm so glad you finally got it! I had a medium in amber and immediately sold it. But then I got a amazing offer to buy a red one in fine which I liked much better. But then I got it ground to a monoline by Kirk and I LOVE it. It feels like writing on a cloud.
I ordered a Carene this summer too. The capband came off when I had only had the pen for a week and only used it a few times. Online, it looks like that has happened to other people too - it's a poor pressure/friction fit. The plastic grip section also started showing rub marks a few mm from the end right away, created by the inside of the cap past the capband part. BE CAREFUL.
@seemownay We were able to glue it back with a tiny bit of epoxy. It's working the way it's supposed to again, but the click isn't the same. My other option was to ship it back at my expense, and the seller would see what they could do about a repair, so I thought keeping it with me was the better choice.
The Carene takes standard international converters and cartridges. The Waterman cartridges are standard but long ones. Hope you really enjoy the pen. It is as you know in my Top 5.
I like that she speaks slowly and clearly, that she's not wearing dstracting fake nails or crazy nail polish, and that her fingers have ink stains on them (a sign of a true writer 😊). This content creator feels like a real person and not some perfectionist caricature of what she thinks the audience wants to see.

Thanks, I appreciate your insight into the history of the brand!

Thanks so much! I am also enjoying it immensely.
Waterman really make some fine pens. Thanks for the video.
They sure do!
I think that black and gold is classic 😍 the medium is gorgeous
I agree. I really like it now and it adds to my boring black pen collection.
@@seemownaythose “classic” collections become “vintage” later 😂

That’s so interesting to hear your journey with this pen!
I love my Waterman Carene! I have a Medium nib and it is totally stubby. It is such a great writer I'd consider getting a Fine too!
I am using it today and I'm very happy with the purchase.
I was gifted a lamy2K with a medium nib and it’s too broad for me. I didn’t know it’s possible to purchase and change the nibs!
I'm so sorry I didn't reply earlier but I saw you were able to find the right video. It's really easy to change a nib on the Lamy too.
I aspire to having a Carene one day.
It's a great pen to save up for.
i just recently misplaced my Marron Lamy ... it was my favourite. 😿
I hope you'll find it soon!

Thanks so much for sharing! I hope you were able to adress the issue with the seller.

I am loving it - thanks for sharing the cartridge knowledge.
Video looks unorganised and messy. But the amount of detail covered is great. Low key OCD vibes.
Thanks for the feedback!
