I didn't really get the impression Berdly strongarmed Noelle into helping him study. She seemed to just do it out of kindness (though he seems to think she had different motives)
I will admit that when I first wrote the script, that was the impression I got. But upon playing it again, I did see Berdley had many more positive traits than I gave him credit for. He definitely didn't strongarm Noelle, and did appreciate her help ultimately - even if he did take it for granted.

Yeah, WILL have to disagree about the Egotistical part tho. Berdly was obsessed with being seen as smart because of his insecurities, but he also wanted to make a world for Noelle where she was happy, and actually was kind to her by Noelle's own words.
He's also willing to risk destroying his arm for her if we don't free him from the Queen's control wires.

It’s so funny to see that many people hate Berdly on their first playthrough but when they replay through the game again (or just know a bit more about the game in general) they start to love Berdly or at the very least hate him less (and yes that’s what happened to me)

i think King is SUPPOSED to be boring, irredeemable and cruel- since he's an OPPOSITE of Queen, and a contrast to everything else that Toby has given us so far in that; for once, there is a character in one of Toby's games who does NOT have a turning point. He really serves the initial message that chapter 1 is focused around that nothing you do can change the outcome; of which King is an integral part of that outcome
Also, the Deltarune script was finished ages ago. Calling the King's behavior in ch 2 a retcon is completely baseless. Like what would Toby even gain from it? He's completely a non-facfor now.
Also why is his design meh? :( I think its decent, and incorporates the spade elements well. (especially his attacks with the spade chain from the damn spade mouth on his stomach). His design just screams what Lancer would look like if he was actually a “bad guy”.
@@forkgodsdescendant2503 King, Lancer, and all of the card-based enemies' designs were inspired by Kanotyne's face cards, you should check them out they're pretty cool.
Also, King is supposed to be the subversion of Asgore from Undertale in a fashion.
Exactly, and Id like to mention that Chaos King being an irredeemable moustache-twirling badguy functions perfectly in the story. In chapter 1, we have to immediately get to know and like Kris, Ralsei, Susie and Lancer. The stories focus is mainly on Susie, and Lancer perfectly assists her in developing her character. Meanwhile Ralsei helps with worldbuilding, explains stuff, and of course gets developed as his own character. This all fits together really well, and is perfectly topped off by the simple motivation for the story: a badguy who just wants to destroy the world. It gives the player (and Susie) the feeling that this is the first adventure of many, which is a great start to a 7 chapter long game, while he at the same time indirectly allows for the first real character confrontation of Lancer vs Susie where you actually care about both sides.
If, besides alllll of the stuff that has to be fit into chapter 1, we also got a deep and interesting villain, that would not only be too much, but also take away from the fundamental theme of the first chapter being "the first adventure of many".

Think we pretty much have confirmation what’s going on in the dark world is pretty real considering what can happen to berdly in chapter 2 in two of the routes
So the reason I said it was mostly because I was acting in the headspace of getting into Deltarune for the first time. I did word it weird though I admit. Probably shouldve did it a bit differently.
TreeckoBro Ha, to be fair, I did what I prolly shouldn’t have done and commented before finishing the video, you did cover the weird route. While I find a lot of intrigue in the ‘neutral’ route, it’s prolly not substantial enough to fit into a review like this
I feel like the dark worlds are still not real. See, Berdly was killed by another REAL person, not and imaginary character. These darkners are all toys, seen in the beginning of chp2 and some of 1, since all the darkners did not exist until kris brought their toy counterparts into the dark world. But if one real person (Noelle) harms another real person (Berdly), that will carry over to the “light world” (aka, the real world).
@@pillowcaseee I disagree actually. On the main route, during the final battle against Queen and Werewire'd Berdly, if you focus entirely on attacking Queen and don't try to attack Berdly/cut his wires, he ends up trying to rip the wires off himself, causing the apparatus to explode and either breaks or outright destroys his arm (I forgot which). When everyone wakes up in the light world afterwards, Berdly can't move his arm. Though you could still argue that this still counts as a real person causing the damage, since Berdly is the one who tried to remove the werewire apparatus, but I prefer to see it as a consequence of the explosion (AKA something from the dark world).

The thing is a lot of Kris’s action are not theirs, they are the player’s. It seems that the player is the red soul (when Kris rips out their soul in ch 1 you can still move the soul in the cage). This makes Kris’s character even more mysterious as the only actions that are truly theirs are when they rip their own soul out. The only control they seem to have when they have the red soul are (sometimes) minor actions such as the tone and level of enthusiasm given to dialogue chosen by the player and sometimes their emotions can be picked up on by other characters such as Kris sweating during the snow grave Rout or Susie stating that Kris looks pissed of when the player attempts to play the piano. This also explains why many of the characters say that Kris is acting unusual as it isn’t really Kris, it’s the player. There are a few times where Kris seems to be able to make their own actions but not fully overpower the player such as them ripping their soul out without player input and them protecting Susie in the king fight. Kris seems to be put off by the idea of being controlled like a puppet as seen with the spamton neo fight. It shows that the terrible actions of both the genocide Rout in undertale and snowgrave are not truly the fault of the characters but the player making the choice to “proceed”
We know very little about Kris’s character and what their motivations are.
It's very interesting to say the least. I am excited to see this angle explored more and more as it goes on. Because my biggest question is how much power the soul actually has. Kris is shown that he can likely just discard it at will. But he keeps it around for whatever reason.

I, for one, like that King has few redeeming qualities. His character drives the point home that not everyone can be reasoned with, sometimes you do have to fight. A message that Undertale never really adressed besides one quick mention.
The entire Asgore and Omega Flowey fight required fighting first, mercy later though
That's fair. I guess it was just because he was our first outing with a villain that it felt like he was just the norm for villains that were coming. I think King could've worked better possibly as a villain down the line instead of the first one we face.

Spade King was just an awful person out to hurt you, he couldn't be reasoned with, he just needed to be taken down.

I feel like ralsei is how kris saw himself as a child In the dreemurr family. There are theories that the red horn headband kris used to have may be ralsei’s light world form. If that is the case, it makes sense that at a young age Kris saw himself as a reflection of his brother. He looked up to him, and wanted to be like him evidenced by the headband. Kris used it at a time when he didn’t see a difference between him and his family, but now things have changed. He left it behind in the room kris and aseiel used to play in, leaving his younger more positive side behind. I feel like that’s why ralsei enjoys kris’ company, because kris himself misses his younger self. If it is at all true, it would be a really cool story to tell.

I actually like that theory a ton. It would make a lot of sense too! Could definitely be viewed as a personification of Kris compared to Asriel himself. I would honestly prefer it if the story actually went that direction.
..Huh..you know, with that context, it actually makes the scenes in the acid tunnel of love (yes, that is what it's called) take on a new light. We're not just trying to get Kris to have a deeper connection with our valid fluffy boi, we're trying to help Kris learn to love himself.

Okay, first off, there are clear similarities between spamton and Kris. They both have strings they can't work without. When Spamton loses his strings, he collapses lifeless, unable to do much of anything but speak. When Kris loses his heart (the players control), he goes numb. He shambles around, only able to do very little. With me?
Spamton was corrupted by someone on the phone, probably gaster as the internet has said a ton already. When Spamton and Jevil heard the Knight (possibly Gaster), they went insane, or were broken in various ways. Here is where the theory gets crazy though
Lets suppose that the very first sequence, the vessel creation sequence, was actually the Knight (again prob. Gaster) talking to Kris for the final time. Gaster asked if he was connected, where we then see Kris' soul floating there. That was gaster finally taking hold, and tying kris to the strings of the player.
If Kris, on hearing the phone call, finally was broken, at least mentally... maybe he pulled a gaster and split his mind to pieces. Maybe Ralsei is a piece of Kris' personality that went missing. His soft tender side that truly cared for others, now trapped within an object that for a time, WAS a part of him.
As I said, Really out there but worth thinking about.

I don't think we actually corrupted Kris in the genocide route. We corrupted Noelle. Kris was upset about it and was shown to be sad afterwards, but he's powerless to stop us.
Was it confirmed he felt sad afterward? I just saw him continuing to creep out Noelle in the hospital and the ending proceeded the same way it did in the normal route

@@TreeckoBro When both Alsiel and Susie look at Kris, they say he looks sad and haunted, showing he's filled with guilt. Also before you have suzie finish of spanton in this route, you have to call to both Ralsiel and Suzie first, with the narrator saying Kris is calling to them, not you. The fact you literally don't have a choice about this, implies that this was Kris begging for help from his/their/her friends, both to avoid having to use noelle and to survive against spanton. This combined with the fact in ch 1 Kris kneels to protect lancer on their own, and even breaks free of your control to protect suzie from the king, implies he still has some morality. Unfortunantly, they don't hear him. Then you, not Kris, whispers noelle's name. Then she comes and finishes spanton. Also, during snowgrave, if Kris gets kod, you can still order her, and she notices how even with Kris down, she still hears your voice. At the end of the route, she realizes the voice isn't Kris at all but a completely different entity. In snowgrave, because our hold on Kris isn't enough to make him actually kill someone or seriously change the story, we decide to try and gain influence over Noelle instead. We exploit her inner demons, her hidden desire to be a bit rebellious, and her inability to stand up for herself. By the end of the route, we have a telepathic link with her, and can make her do our bidding at will, with her responding from far away without even being consiouss. She may even become a playable character in the future, one who unlike Kris, doesn't have any ability to resist at all.
@@tristanboss7319 Oooh, okay while I do agree with most of this I do wanna mention 'telepathic link' maybe isn't exactly what they were going for. I think it's less we're talking directly in her head and more like she just can't *not* hear us. Like how Kris just can't *not* disobey a direct command from us. Snowgrave is all about breaking enough rules of the game and exploiting the control we have to gain more control in general, have more influence and impact on the game. Maybe in universe it's described as a telepathic link, but out of the game our SOUL can just, directly speak to Noelle without the need for Kris. We can directly control her when she's near Kris. And eventually it grows to point where if we so much as have the game ON, she can hear us. As if we were standing right next to her cause..we kind of are, in a way.
Also, about Noelle having no ability to resist, I like the concept! Though, I do feel it should be said that, while Noelle may be the most vulnerable to our influence, she's not COMPLETELY powerless. At the end of Snowgrave, she's by far the character who's the closest to realizing what exactly is going on here. Sure Susie, Ralsei, and a few other characters can tell somethings..wrong with Kris, but, Noelle's the only one who knows for a *fact* there is a voice coming from Kris that isn't their own, and they feel they have to try and find out what that is. Maybe they'll come to realize someone is controlling Kris, and then will stop listening to us entirely..meaning we'll have to get more creative in exactly just how we manipulate her.
@@TreeckoBro snippets of dialogue by Ralsei and Susie reveal Kris looking "distraught", which is pretty much all they can do while we're controlling them anyway. Would be weird to mention that soon after freezing Berdly if Kris didn't feel awful about what we've done using their body.

Personally, while Chapter 2 was amazingly fun, I'm less in love with what Deltarune IS, and more excited for what it seems like it's GOING to be. I've been invested with the theorizing part of the community, and it's insane how many questions there are to ask in this game, how many hints and plot points have been left. I can't wait to see how they are resolved/answered in the next 5 chapters. This game seems like it will be an absolute masterpiece once finished, the story seems like it will be very grand and emotional.

Yes! They look really dang cool! Especially the concept for Mike. I know it won't happen but I'd love for Toby to contact them and see if he could use their character and tracks as a miniboss for the legit Chapter 3.
Man I used to hate Deltarune. I thought it was terrible compared to Undertale. Once I gave it a chance when Chapter 2 came out, I fell in love. Can’t wait for the continuation
I shall respect your opinion of course! It's interesting to see there is a rift forming between Undertale and Deltarune - and they are indeed growing into their own things. I actually liked Chapter 1 more than Undertale, but I didn't know if it was the honeymoon effect. Chapter 2 made that opinion concrete for me though.
@@TreeckoBro In my opinion, chapter 1 is very weak compared to both Chapter 2 and Undertale as a whole. When I saw chapter 2, I guess the computer stuff drew me in, and I fell in love. Plus it’s longer so that works for it

@@Lonewulf321 I might be in the minority, but I still prefer Undertale’s soundtrack. Tracks like Megalovania, whatever Asriel’s final battle theme is called, and the credits triumph over my favorite tracks from Deltarune. Plus, in terms of what Undertale did to people’s view of RPG’s where you don’t have to kill, Deltarune doesn’t have something to compare to that. I do believe Deltarune has currently the better story and backgrounds and GUI’s. And I hate to go here, but Undertale is finished. I’m sure I’ll love Deltarune even more once more chapters come in, but I’m one who likes a complete story.

Though personally, I don’t really think Deltarune is aiming for a different type of meta narrative than Undertale, the pacifism and genocide thing isn’t really as thematically important.
And to me comparing a full complete story to something not finished would tend to have that effect haha. But yeah I respect that opinions
Berdly is definitely one of my favorite characters. Though I think you got his backstory a bit wrong. While he’s a smug asshole most of the time, that’s a mask he puts on. He has some clear self-esteem issues, knowing he isn’t as smart as he tries to show. He gets lost in his own delusions, and the mask he wears eventually seems to morf into his personality, the old bluebird being lost somewhere behind it. As he says, nobody even remembered his name before the spelling bee, and winning it gave him the one thing he seems to desire-attention. He worries he won’t be able to live up to his and others expectations of himself, and that’s why he’s coaxed into being Queens minion. He wants to live in a world where he can actually be the genius he wants to be, and not rely on Noelle as much. While I do think he is actually smart, he’s seen in the Flashback to not spell as fast as Noelle, proving that while he may be intelligent, Noelle is smarter. He’s also just like really fucking funny and I hope he gets a bigger role and isn’t as obnoxious in the future.
One thing I want to mention is that Berdly is one of the two characters that gets consequences for your actions. During a Normal route, if you only focus on attacking Queen and not freeing Berdly, the fight will end with him frying his wing. When he then wakes up in the computer lab, he can’t move his wing anymore. And I don’t think I need to mention what happens I SNOWGRAVE (spoiler alert- he fucking dies). This ties into the main theme of the game: Your choices don’t matter. The destination will always be the same, no matter what you do during your time in the Dark World, the same cutscene always plays. However, the journey to that point is different.
Also Berdly has like the best theme of any character on bye

He's a great character and his role in the coming chapters is going to be super interesting since so much can happen to him depending on your choices.

i dont rlly see him as annoying, hes just a kid who wants attention like everyone else and kinda lied his way to the top. what made me like and sympathize w him is that he Actually decided to confront his actions and apologize instead of staying true to his stuck-up ideals. i think a lot of ppl see themselves (whether in the past or currently) in him and thats why they have such a volatile reaction towards him when in reality, hes a kid who has a lot to learn and make up for just like us or those in the game. hes far from my fave char but the takes surrounding him arent the best so,,

matpat’s theory is probably the worst ive seen, he chooses our reality over the games for an explanation trying to ground what’s possible with our laws and reasoning for something possible in our world.

In a way, I can get what he's saying. But it does seem like Game Theory videos on Deltarune/Undertale mostly go for low hanging fruit - or go extremely out of range for what is possible.
But just as a note, I don't have anything against Game Theory. I just disliked their theories regarding Toby Fox's works.
@@TreeckoBro I may not like it either but I’m gonna be that guy and point out Game Theory deliberately chooses over the top theories. (its mostly an entertainment channel, they don’t treat games like gospel or something.)

my favorite thing kris does is when they turn towards the camera after a "cutscene"
best example of this is after you first meet susie in the dark world. it's probably not intentional but it's fucking comical the way they turn towards the camera after being told they walk too slow
I always thought it was unintentional but it always gets me as well. Like, an insane scene happens, and then Kris just turns to the camera like it's a reaction shot from The Office -_-

I always feel like Kris is going "Bitch." At the Player in an exasperated way
Same thing in Undertale. During genocide, when Sans brings you to the conveniently-shaped-lamp, you can't move and end up revealing yourself to Papyrus. After the scene ends, both Sans and Frisk turn towards you. Both going "Bruh, why didn't you move?"
Fun fact: Deltarune was what Toby Fox was going to make before Undertale. So Deltarune is the real deal.
The reason kris can’t play piano is because he’s being controlled by us, the player. And we probably don’t know how to play like kris so we can’t do it.
Even if we can play the piano in RL.
On closer inspection, you're definitely right about that. It begs the question when a Player soul developed inside Kris to begin with.
@@TreeckoBro it seems like who/whatever stopped us at the end of the vessel creation and gave us the spiel about how no one can choose who they are in this world put the players soul in kris body otherwise we would be playing as the vessel, maybe we'll find out who it is in later chapters I guess 🤷♂️

@@TreeckoBro I think than kris creates dark fountains to countinue the story so that we will stop possessing him, he knows we don’t want to play when there’s nothing more to do so he’s making sure there isn’t anything by hurrying foreword the story.

i fell in love with deltarune, i was in a rough time struggling with a lot of things, mentally and school wise, the game made me so happy, the little moments, interactions
it was surreal. it made me so happy. amazing. i had a loving towards undertale when deltarune first came out, i used to be immature and clueless, now i understand words and what everything means.
It's honestly such a feelgood experience (without Snowgrave). It's sort of unmatched in how it conveys friendship and coming of age.

You're right! Yeah it's hard to quantify exactly what makes a game look "pretty". I guess I mainly mean having spritework compared to legit hyperrealistic humans.
@@TreeckoBro Realism is overrated. Half the reason people are playing video games in the first place is to escape real life (btw, escapism being unifying theme with the dark worlds is pretty interesting assumption to think about). Also, a good amount of the animation in Deltarune goes beyond what was done in the sprite-based console eras, so "outdated" isn't an entirely accurate description of it or other modern spritework games. It's like saying hand drawn cartoons/anime made today are outdated just because of digital drawing being mainstream.
Some of the stuff in Undertale was outright ugly, but Deltarune did a lot more to clean up those rough edges since there was no more reason to cut corners for the sake of effect or reduced workload. Even in spots where it's less detailed, some effort was still put in to be aesthetically pleasing where Undertale would have let it stay unsightly just cause.
...But, yeah, visual presentation has always taken a backseat compared to the writing and music. Like seriously, how have they only improved, and by so much, with each new Toby Fox release? Will Deltarune only have one ending because he plans to make the music and dialogue so good that everyone that plays the game has their heads explode before they can finish chapter 7?
Deltarune is really pretty. Undertale was kinda low-quality in places graphically, but they really put a lot of effort into this
Honestly one of the hardest times I laughed during chapter two was king sipping from the royal water bottle so I think he has the same capacity to carry punchlines

I'm unsure mostly from how this was worded, but I think I get what you're saying.
I wouldn't say it's not normal. I just think, as a writer, you always wanted to jump on funny characters doing funny things. It's hard to write in such a way where every character can be the funniest character. I'm more conveying the difficulty aspect of it.

I love Kris, it’s obvious there is a lot of past wounds in their past that play into their character. The family backstory, the fact that they stopped going to the cafeteria together, the fact that they didn’t have any significant friends until Susie, their throat tightening when drinking the hot chocolate and remembering their brother, the million hints at how much they miss their brother Asriel. These were things that already made Kris so interesting in chapter 1. But in chapter 2, this takes even greater depth. We see that Kris knows something about the mysterious bunker that they won’t talk about. We see Kris open a book about humans, and when they see pictures of humans they don’t recognise, they quickly shut the book. I love that in dialogue options, it’s always clear what Kris WANTED to say despite whatever you end up picking and often, they say the dialogue options they didn’t want to say sarcastically. I love that Kris gives off a vibe where they don’t like the control we have over them as the player. I’ve started thinking all the hugging we do with Ralsei is probably wrong, and something Kris doesn’t want, because we heard it from Asgore that Kris doesn’t like hugs. And Kris’s reaction to spamton neo and how they were clearly very affected by the outcome of the fight shows that Kris is terrified of meeting the same fate, being a puppet under the players command but doomed to die if they try to become free.
I’m excited to see what chapter 3 brings to the table for Kris’s character, and I can’t wait to learn all about it

Great video, i like how you covered almost all the bases of the themes and i agree with most of the points. Well structured and fun to sit through.
A bit strange though that you didn't mention Kris being controlled by the player in all this as it seems to be one of the central focuses of the narrative, especially with the secret bosses directly refferencing freedom and puppet string respectively, not to mention the soul ripping and Kris' actions that clearly show distain for some of our actions or actively going against our choices sometimes (closing his eyes when trying to see asriel's search history, being pissed off when we can't play the piano).

I think the reason I didn't cover the whole player influence was because I couldn't really figure out how to expand on that theme. Kris does seem angered by being controlled but they seem perfectly capable to taking back control whenever they please. So I'm a bit confused by the relationship of the player and Kris honestly.
@@TreeckoBro Well yea, as of chapter 2 the whole relation is still not very well explained, however spamton seems to give us a very big hint, as in when we free him from the strings, he just collapses like an empty vessel, which deeply disturbs Kris after the fact. So it is possible that without us controlling them, they weaken heavily and could potentially die even, seeing how they quite literally drag themselves slowly and heavily when walking without the soul inside. It is purely speculation at this point tho, need more info from later chapters.
Deltarune was an amazing ride for me and I'm more excited what Toby is gonna throw at us next. There's so much hidden lore and already so many theories surrounding the game that keeps me invested since I've always been interested in that kind of stuff.
Toby is definitely excellent at universe building and all the little things adding up in the end. Super excited to see more since Deltarune seems to be building up a lot!

I had this love-hate relationship with berdly the first time I played the game. But now, it's a love-love relationship
TO ALL WHO STRUGGLED WITH THE SPAMTON NEO FIGHT:
Regular healing items can revive downed ally's. Revive Dust just revives them to a 100% health, so the ButlerJuice is very efective for these ocasions (party members heal slowly during each turn when downed). Charged [[BIG SHOTS]] cause more damage per second compared to rapidy firing regular [[BIG SHOTS]], so keep charging and don't fire regular attacks; Only charged attacks. The Snap ALL option gives a 7% mercy on Spamton NEO, compared to individual snaps done with the party members (wich give you 6% mercy), man Deltarune is so much better as a Mixed RPG than Undertale.
It's way more engaging as a Game, and posibly even as a experience (but that's more debatable with only 2 chapters made so far as of late October 2021 and the flawed legendary status Undertale has).
I do agree very much on the whole mixed RPG aspect of Deltarune! There is a lot more strategy and GAME in Deltarune for sure.

well. it is worth noting that in the dark world town at the beginning and end, in the bakery where you can combine items. there is a recipe that requires the thorn ring from the weird route. though you can still get that while playing the normal route through the game if you abandon the weird route before its to late. but you still need to start it at least. so there isnt NO reward.
But the twisted sword would only be useful in a genocide so either way you'd still get no reward

When I finished true pacifist in Undertale, it felt like nothing better has ever happened to me, it was a once in a lifetime experience for me, but when I just found out how Deltarune went, I instantly became super attached to it it felt 500 times greater than Undertale, finishing both chapters THRICE in a row!
That ending in Undertale is pretty unparalleled so far. It still is such a feel good experience. I do think, if Deltarune continues it's pace, it might be able to eclipse it for me if they go for the same type of ending.

I am watching this late at night, and as soon as you said "It reminds me of another game" I yelled "NO WAY." out loud. I remember talking about how similar Persona 5 and Deltarune were to my friend a few years ago and completely forgot about it. Feels good to know that I'm not the only one who was thinking about this haha.
Ok the thing about Kris and why they are different when we are playing is because....well we're playing them. So the piano isn't actually Kris. It's us, and Kris isn't actually evil. If you look more into the game you realize they're just trying to get control of their life back and also fix it. (Ending of Chapter 2 is him trying to fix his parent's divorce since Asgore was once Chief of police.)
If there's one thing I could adjust post-essay, I wish I could definitely expand on the whole player soul side of Kris (and also not hate on Berdley so much lol)
I do know about the whole piano aspect and how Kris can do a lot of things if we weren't in control.

For some reason, deltarune seems like an alternate timeline of undertale where the war between the humans and the monster has never happened. However, there's one thing about deltarune that doesn't make sense to me, toriel being distant with asgore. If anyone feels the same way, reply to this comment.
Hm. Well now that you mention it.. I do wonder why they're distant. I didn't question it before because they're not together in Undertale either, so it just felt natural, but assuming that the war didn't happen (hence why humans and monsters are living together on the surface) and thus Asriel wasn't killed, Asgore would have no reason to collect human souls to free the monsters of course.
I only assume that it's something like the same reason why Toriel and Sans still get along, that their personalities and relationships n such are still the same as from Undertale.. so it's sort of inevitable that they separate and are distant with each other regardless of how exactly that comes about?
I hope that makes sense lol. Basically I'm saying I assume it follows the idea that "nobody can choose who they are", that it's all predetermined and Toriel and Asgore were always meant to end up distant regardless of the circumstances
I don’t think our goat parents tolerate each others personalities (and decisions.). Even if I wish otherwise, this seems to firmly be the case in both stories. I’m sure their are other reasons, but it’s not like we can know what goes through the heads of video game characters, it hasn’t been scripted ywt after all.

(making this comment without watching the full video) 7:23 it's because he was born from the fountain of pure darkness that's in the castle town and if you didn't know, that dark world created from pure darkness can handle darkners from other dark worlds without turning them into stone so that's why he can travel without any problem to other worlds :)

Honestly, adore them both, but you can easily play Deltarune without ever playing Undertale. You'll miss a few of the references, but you won't miss anything important. Even as a demo it's a better game. Probably not surprising since there's more people helping and he's more experienced now. Undertale's a good game, play it if you have the chance, but isn't strictly necessary to play Deltarune.

I am a really big fan of Berdly and let me explain why. First of all, I think he is very well written as an annoying character, and his presence makes Chapter 2 a lot more fun. Second, he is absolutely hilarious. Every single one of his jokes land. Lastly, I really enjoy his character arc

My favourite part in Deltarune so far is after the Spamton fight when Ralsei and Suzy ask Kris if they're ok. If you say 'no' they comment that he's screaming but if you say 'yes' they comment that his voice is strained.

I liked undertale, but I love deltarune. Mostly for personal reasons, like... I never related to a character more than Kris, and that's pretty cool! I like the possible deeper meaning and lore, but I also like that you can just enjoy the game without worrying about the secrets too much. And the game is HILARIOUS. Undertale's comedy was cool, but I guess not my style? But I laughed so much while playing deltarune. And I'm very excited for chapter 3
Deltarune definitely has a connection to me as well! When you can find something to relate to in it, that's when it starts to shine I think. Oh yeah, just like Undertale you don't have to worry about the intricacies. They're there in case you want to look into it :) I think a lot of Deltarune's jokes come from the setup. You're mostly hanging around multiple NPCs at once compared to Undertale where it was mostly Frisk interacting with the world solo.
So you said something about kris playing the piano badly because asriel is missing. In my opinion kris usually knows how to play the piano and is very different but because we now control him (his soul) he is different and cant dostuff like playing the piano
