All sinus’ are supposed to communicate (open) to the posterior nasopharynx (the open space behind your nose/above the tongue. The mud clod must have partially injured one of the openings. And if you have an allergy or infection (however minor) at the time that you fly it could cause the problem. Afrin (if used rarely) is a good option. Give it a try and good luck.

I have had several concussions in my life and the last two times I flew I got the worse headaches I have ever had in my life. Never happened before but now I am not wanting to fly because of those headaches. I did try several things before my last flight but they didn’t work… sorry that you have those also

You are correct the pain is caused by what is called a "sinus block" when the air can not go back into the sinus and the pain can be very sharp and intense, It may be caused by a slight runny nose. the cure is for you to take your thumb and forefinger close off the nose and blow against them you may have to blow very hard for relief the reason it goes away after a while is it gradually equalizes . that is called performing the "Valsalva Maneuver" very common to military flight crews.

Which is well known for ear-popping, triggering migraines or even stomach gas pains. If you want to monitor cabin pressure yourself, most smartphones have a pressure sensor in them. Find an barometer app to access it.
back about 6o years ago we used to use those salamanders for fishing bait in lak mead. the large mouth bass loved them but I am not sure if it's legal anymore. all of the bait and tackle shops on Boulder highway had big tanks full of them.

As a retired pilot i know that pain well. Find a way to keep your sinuses open. Pound Sudafed before each flight.

I have that sinus pain from time to time when flying, feels like a sharp nail is trying to push out a sinus behind my eye. It is terrible!
You have to go to the Doctor I'm sorry to inform you. You need an MRI. Sorry to hear that happened to you.
