Then on ALIENS at the discovery of the Facehuggers when the enter the colony Gorman bumps something that falls and her scared reaction was also real.
Tony Shalhoub as Tech Sgt. Chen played that teleport scene to perfection! He is a SERIOUSLY underrated actor. Easily one of the funniest and best movies out there, and by far the best Star Trek parody ever made!
His character was high throughout the whole movie. If you remember in many scenes he can be seen either eating, trying to eat, or totally chill with a really relaxed, devil may care, attitude.
The thermins are a brilliant comedian creation. To think the actor who played the lead thermin created the sound and walk. The scene where the thermins arrive on earth for the first time is hysterically funny.
Fun fact: he based his character on David Carradine from Kung Fu, who was rumored to be frequently high on weed because he was an non-Asian playing an Asian character, so that was the basis for his character's constant Zen.
He was supposed to be high the entire time but the studio removed any weed scenes from the movie. So you end up with a character who is portrayed as high but without the scenes explaining so.
Did you notice Sigourney Weaver jumping? She seems to have not expected it. This is typical of her, in ALIEN and ALIENS they did this to her, scaring her for real, like 4 times, 2 times per film, and all concerning the Facehuggers scenes. She seems to be jumpy and some directors know this cause they get the best reactions from her lol.

"That was a hell of a thing..." Baahaahaa! Chen is so cool! So many people I know don't get this movie...too bad for them! I have to admit there are a few cheesy scenes like the rock monster, but it has tons of subtle jokes that you only catch with repeated watches. I think its time to watch again real soon!

It was a speculum. They were inspecting Gwen with it. Part of me thought she secretly wanted it (but couldn't show it around her crew). Gwen lowkey masochistic in my hc. (What the fuck is wrong with me?)
He missed the octopus aliens coming with the probing instruments, but given that he was unfazed by the transport itself, he probably would've taken that in stride too.
What a brilliant film! The cast is outstanding! Everyone at that time was quite young, Alan Sidney Patrick Rickman was full of energy, blessed memory to him. I rewatch it periodically, but how can you not rewatch it?!
Another nothing good made now unlike 'back in the day' comment. Galaxy Quest was also better than 98% of what was made when it was made. Probably 98% better than most movies ever made. I do admit that since the eighties, movies more often stick to formulas that proven to work and there is less experimentation with big budget movies. Considering budgets kept going up this is hardly surprising. Hollywood was never ever making movies purely for the art.

If I could chose just ONE of the Deleted scenes (original DVD possessor) to restore to the movie, it would be Tech-Sargeant Chin and the Beryllium Sphere.
I feel like this movie and the actors in it took none of the movie seriously and it just made it so amazing. they took "lean into the meme" to the next level.
There's been talk of a sequel, but for me this movie needs to stand on its own just as it was created, no sequel necessary or desirable. There's been talk of a sequel to 1956's Forbidden Planet, but, thankfully, nothing has yet come of that. What makes Galaxy Quest so brilliant is that it is able to, simultaneously, parody and revere the Star Trek franchise. Doing either well is hard enough, but doing both superbly is nearly impossible.

Now that im 23ish years older and in the medical field. I never noticed one of the aliens holding a vaginal speculum, and to make it better-its pointed at Sigourney lol

I've always theorized that the fictional writer of the show was an actual Thermian who was actually seeking help and got stranded on earth . That's why all the tech and life forms like dr. lazarus could have been real.
Technically it wasn't a probing, those three Thermians were actually Medical Personnel using their equipment to see if the transportation had any ill-effects on them.

I always loved how they made the aliens so strange and initially shocking without their appearance generators, but when you really look at the design they don't look un-friendly. There's no sharp angles, their eyes are obviously beaming with admiration for the crew. Even if they're a mass of tentacles, they're kind of cute in a weird way.
The hair and make up department deserve so much credit for this, I never knew Sigourney Weaver was hot before this movie. And after this, other than the movie Paul, she never even came close to looking this good ever again. It's bonkos the way her career was mismanaged. There should have been plastic surgery fads based on her back before the multibillion dollar Kim fucked Ray J publicity stunt.
I just got it! I was wondering why Fred showed up so much later than everyone else. I thought it was awful considerate of the Thermian's to wait for Fred to get some soup. But no! It's smarter than that! Liliari had 4 pods ready for transport because Jason was expecting them to have good hearts and return. But Guy ended up tagging along, so Liliari calls in an extra pod. As Fred wanders off to look at the soup, Guy accidentally takes the pod that was prepared for Fred and leaves with the rest of the crew. Then, after a minute or so, Fred's pod is ready and he joins them. If only Guy didn't take Fred's. He'd probably have a much better time with a friendly welcome rather than probed by squids in the first 5 minutes of your adventure

She's not wrong. Just like, even if anyone actually wanted a sequel to the HHG movie, you couldn't do it without him as the voice of Marvin.
