- In this film, you will see my grandfather, who was born in this house and lives to this day. This place is "Wild forests of the Carpathians" ethnic group "Boyka" Usually, few people except my grandfather live far from civilization now. My grandfather goes down to the village twice a year, he spends all the time away from civilization in his forest house, which was built by his grandfathers. In those forest houses, as you saw, there is no electricity, the only connection to civilization is an old battery-operated radio. From time to time I visit my grandfather, I help with the household. My grandfather has a goat and a bull. When the bull grows up, he sells it and lives on the money from the sale.

We live a homesteading life in the southern USA. We are 70 now and taking it easier. We no longer grow food or milk a cow but we did. We keep chickens now and rest a lot. We built everything here with our own hands. We acquired our 13 acres in 1998. We moved here full time in August of 2000 once our children were grown and out of the nest. It is a wonderful and blessed life.

Распробовали люди что такое цивилизация😱...и по возможности разъезжаются по деревням. Хотя бы временно. Считаю что пусть в цивилизации живёт молодежь, умные, активные, талантливые...а возраст уже хочет тишины, покоя, уединения. Тем более что сейчас и радио на батарейках, оторван от мира не будешь, да может интернет ловит😊...Сама бы прислонилась к такому дедушке, своего нету..

I am from USA 🇺🇸, how is everyone doing with the unrest there and the threat of war? I hope you two are doing well and are staying safe and out of harms way. You living the way your living reminds me when I was a kid in the state of Oklahoma where I still live. We were poor, we butchered our own hogs, calves, goats, milked our own cow, had a huge garden and lots of fruit trees! We had 6 in our family, there are only my older sister and myself left now, I am 72! It would be really nice to live like you men are living, the old ways were the best ways. I miss them, but God tells us not to dwell on the past but to look forward to a home in Heaven with him! It's taken me a lifetime to understand this old earth is not my home! May God continue to bless you guys! Thanks so much for sharing this video and allowing me to come into and share the excitement in your lifestyle! I really enjoyed watching and learning how others live a continent away!

I find myself being calmed by the content and reminds me of myself and 2 daughters on a solitary farm long ago. It was difficult for a mother and 2 kids to do all that needs done with every task here in Kansas. I never had trouble sleeping unless it was tornado season 😊. Bless you and thank you

Hello to you both from Czech Republic :) My grandparents lived in similar way in Slovakian mountains. We even still maintain the old house even though it will likely be gone in the next generation. Very good to see some families still living this way and maintaining the knowledge, it may come a time, when more people want or need it again.

I'm just as curious about your lives as much as your grandfather is about your audiences' lives. I love your vlogs because it shows the beautiful nature of Ukraine and your culture. I am from the States. You must know quite a bit about America yourself because of your sweatshirt. Love it. Carhartt clothes keep you very warm when it is cold outside. My husband's jackets and winter coat are all Carhartt. By the way, the land in Ukraine reminds me quite a bit of what we call the Heartland over here, just not as many mountains.

It was all so captivating...👏 Sometime I too think of passing my old age in such a beautiful and isolated place but then think of my physical vigour which would go down with every passing day..😢
Your grandpa is a very brave person and living the life as sages in my country India. We call the third stage of human life (roughly between 50 to 75 years) as "Vaanaprastha Ashram"(moving to forest abode, or in modern sense "living in isolation" away from your children and their families). This gives the person a chance to look into himself and try to understand as "who he is" and retrospect into his past years endeavours thinking about their real value, necessity or permanance in his life as on date ??
Really happy to see that you care this much for your grandpa..When you will reach his age you will realise what a visit of this kind of someone dear to you really means to you.

For those who have completed their dharma, following sadhana is the correct path.
What a wonderful way of spending the last 1/3 of life. I am in the third stage, and live alone, but I'm hardly isolated. I love going to a nearby lake and just watching the birds and reflecting on all the things I've done. It's wonderful. I'm not sure if it will ever catch on in the U.S., though. People here are busily trying to check things off their bucket lists.
Yes, and I am peering at the fourth and final stage (of the chaturashram) that of sanyassa. It is not literally the last two stages but internally so as I ponder who I have been, where I am at this present moment and where I will be all of which resides in what cannot be wholly expressed or whose expression can never be exhausted but what remains ever permanent. Namaste.

As recently as 2014 I spent a week in a house like this Canada. I lived there’s years before. Nights in bed listening only to the subtle night sounds and staring into the dark night sky with stars hanging like jewels are some of the best memories I have.
You had an amazing time, relaxing in harmony with nature is great.

Gratulujem, že sa Ti podarilo prehovoriť deda aby bol vo videu. Zároveň ho pozdravujem a želám veľa zdravia. Uplynulo už veľa rokov čo som chodil k môjmu dedovi, no v pamäti má človek i veci ktoré by si ani nečakal. Nábytok, skriňu mali podobné. ešte aj držiak na vrchnáky na hrnce , čo je na stene za pecou je ten istý. Aj u mojích starých rodičov prvá umrela babka ,ale dedo si vedel sám navariť . Dokonca keď bola mama v nemocnici , tak otec išiel vždy po neho a dedko bol za kuchára / zamestnanie mal pritom ako baník /. Je pravda, že otec tiež pracoval v tom čase v bani. Tá zelená nádrž sa už asi nepoužíva. Ako sedel dedko na schodoch, tak ten stĺp pri pravej dedovej nohe nie je dole podložený. Ten vedľa schodov a keď sa lepšie pozrieš ,tak je trochu nižšie ako ten vľavo. V zime tam je isto veľa snehu , tak asi preto. Skvelá sušiareň na huby , nám by také hrubšie kusy neuschli. Pstruhy sme chytali ináč. Obe ruky pomaly pod kameň. No oni podľa počasia a ročného obdobia boli pstruhy raz vyššie ,alebo nižšie v potoku. V podobných látkach ,ale na rohoch zo šnúrami sa i u nás niekedy dávno nosilo seno z kopca. Na chrbte. Krásne video.😍😍 Je málo ľudí čo by dnes vydržali žiť denne bez elektriny a mobilu.
