    So, looking at what happened, in game it seems like the yamatos side plating/belt armour was really weak, and because of the way the shots work, your shots were able to penetrate that and detonate the magazines real easy. It could also have been misplaced magazines and to thin deck plating.
    Doesnt help that the calibers in this game are a bit funky. Iowa only had 16 inch batteries, and the Bismark had even smaller than that, i think like 12 or 14 inch batteries (except they were a metric caliber, the superior units), but in this both of those Battleships have 18 inch batteries, and primary caliber secondary batteries, so the yamato is technically quite under armed, only having 18 inch batteries. Then again, i believe Japanese ship munitions were inferior to allied or German munitions, so maybe that makes up for the caliber differences.
    Ships are really really complicated beasts, and whilst this game does a pretty great job so far, there is a long way it can go to increase the historical realism and potential.

    the yamato that you used in this video is actually her sister ship, musashi. musashi had the same arnament of the yamato but replace most of the anti-air guns with another secondary battery. musashi was badly damaged in battle and then was sunk later on. yamato was on a suicide mission when suddenly she was ambushed by many squadrons of bombers and torpedo bombers.

    This is a lot to type but it is what it is…
    Yamato (大和) was the lead ship of her class of battleships built for the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) shortly before World War II. She and her sister ship, Musashi, were the heaviest and most powerfully armed battleships ever constructed, displacing 72,800 tonnes at full load and armed with nine 46 cm (18.1 in) Type 94 main guns, which were the largest guns ever mounted on a warship. It was Named after the ancient Japanese Yamato Province, Yamato was designed to counter the numerically superior battleship fleet of the United States, Japan's main rival in the Pacific. She was laid down in 1937 and formally commissioned a week after the Pearl Harbor attack in late 1941. Throughout 1942, she served as the flagship of the Combined Fleet, and in June 1942 Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto directed the fleet from her bridge during the Battle of Midway, a disastrous defeat for Japan. Musashi took over as the Combined Fleet flagship in early 1943, and Yamato spent the rest of the year moving between the major Japanese naval bases of Truk and Kure in response to American threats. In December 1943, Yamato was torpedoed by an American submarine which necessitated repairs at Kure, where she would also be refitted with additional anti-aircraft guns and radar in early 1944. Although present at the Battle of the Philippine Sea in June 1944, she played no part in the battle. Sadly I’m not allowed to type anymore I spent over 48mins typing this Baron

      Part 2: it’s end…. Yamato's crew were at general quarters and ready for anti-aircraft action by dawn on 7 April. The first Allied aircraft made contact with the Surface Special Attack Force at 08:23; two flying boats arrived soon thereafter, and for the next five hours, Yamato fired Common Type 3 or Beehive (3 Shiki tsûjôdan) shells at the Allied seaplanes, but could not prevent them from shadowing the force. Yamato obtained her first radar contact with aircraft at 10:00; an hour later, American F6F Hellcat fighters appeared overhead to deal with any Japanese aircraft that might appear. None did.[44][N 6]
      At about 12:30, 280 bomber and torpedo bomber aircraft arrived over the Japanese force. Asashimo, which had fallen out of formation with engine trouble, was caught and sunk by a detachment of aircraft from San Jacinto. The Surface Special Attack Force increased speed to 24 knots (28 mph; 44 km/h), and following standard Japanese anti-aircraft defensive measures, the destroyers began circling Yamato. The first aircraft swooped in to attack at 12:37. Yahagi turned and raced away at 35 knots (40 mph; 65 km/h) in an attempt to draw off some of the attackers; it drew off only an insignificant number. Yamato was not hit for four minutes, but at 12:41 two bombs obliterated two of her triple 25 mm anti-aircraft mounts and blew a hole in the deck. A third bomb then destroyed her radar room and the starboard aft 127 mm mount. At 12:45 a single torpedo struck Yamato far forward on her port side, sending shock waves throughout the ship. At 12:46, another two bombs struck the battleship's port side, one slightly ahead of the aft 155 mm centreline turret and the other right on top of the gun. These caused a great deal of damage to the turret and its magazines; only one man survived.[44][N 7] Because many of the ship's crew who did not go down with the vessel were killed by strafing aircraft as they swam in the oily water, the details are uncertain, but authors Garzke and Dulin record that little damage was caused.[44] Shortly afterward, up to three more torpedoes struck Yamato. Two impacts, on the port side near the engine room and on one of the boiler rooms, are confirmed; the third is disputed but is regarded by Garzke and Dulin as probable because it would explain the reported flooding in Yamato's auxiliary steering room. The attack ended around 12:47, leaving the battleship listing 5-6° to port; counterflooding-deliberately flooding compartments on the other side of the ship-reduced the list to 1°. One boiler room had been disabled, slightly reducing Yamato's top speed, and strafing had incapacitated many of the gun crews who manned Yamato's unprotected 25 mm anti-aircraft weapons, sharply curtailing their effectiveness.

    • @MetaHeadz
      @MetaHeadz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The second attack started just before 13:00. In a coordinated strike, dive bombers flew high overhead to begin their runs while torpedo bombers approached from all directions at just above sea level. Overwhelmed by the number of targets, the battleship's anti-aircraft guns were ineffective, and the Japanese tried desperate measures to break up the attack. Yamato's main guns were loaded with Beehive shells fused to explode one second after firing-a mere 1,000 m (3,300 ft) from the ship-but these had little effect. Three or four torpedoes struck the battleship on the port side and one to starboard. Three hits, close together on the port side, are confirmed: one struck a fire room that had already been hit, one impacted a different fire room, and the third hit the hull adjacent to a damaged outboard engine room, increasing the water flow into that space and possibly flooding nearby locations. The fourth hit, unconfirmed, may have struck aft of the third; Garzke and Dulin believe this would explain the rapid flooding reported in that location.[45] This attack left Yamato in a perilous position, listing 15-18° to port. Counterflooding of all remaining starboard void spaces lessened this to 10°, but further correction would have required repairs or flooding the starboard engine and fire rooms. Although the battleship was not yet in danger of sinking, the list meant the main battery was unable to fire and her speed was limited to 18 knots (33 km/h; 21 mph).[46]
      The third and most damaging attack developed at about 13:40. At least four bombs hit the ship's superstructure and caused heavy casualties among her 25 mm anti-aircraft gun crews. Many near misses drove in her outer plating, compromising her defense against torpedoes. Most serious were four more torpedo impacts. Three exploded on the port side, increasing water flow into the port inner engine room and flooding yet another fire room and the steering gear room. With the auxiliary steering room already under water, the ship lost maneuverability and became stuck in a starboard turn. The fourth torpedo most likely hit the starboard outer engine room, which, along with three other rooms on the starboard side, was being counterflooded to reduce the port list. The torpedo strike accelerated the rate of flooding and trapped many crewmen.

    • @MetaHeadz
      @MetaHeadz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      At 14:02, the order was belatedly given to abandon ship. By this time, Yamato's speed had dropped to 10 knots (19 km/h; 12 mph) and her list was increasing. Fires raged out of control and alarms on the bridge warned of critical temperatures in the forward main battery magazines.[N 8] Protocol called for flooding the magazines to prevent explosion, but the pumping stations had been knocked out.[49]
      At 14:05, Yahagi sank, the victim of twelve bombs and seven torpedoes. At the same time, a final flight of torpedo bombers attacked Yamato from her starboard side. Her list was now such that the torpedoes-set to a depth of 6.1 m (20 ft)-struck the bottom of her hull. The battleship continued her inexorable roll to port.[22] By 14:20, the power went out and her remaining 25 mm anti-aircraft guns began to drop into the sea. Three minutes later, Yamato capsized. Her main 46 cm turrets fell off, and as she rolled suction was created that drew swimming crewmen back toward the ship. When the roll reached approximately 120°, one of the two bow magazines detonated in a tremendous explosion.[49] The resulting mushroom cloud-over 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) high-was seen 160 kilometres (99 mi) away on Kyūshū.[50] Yamato sank rapidly, losing an estimated 3,055 of her 3,332 crew, including fleet commander Vice-Admiral Seiichi Itō.[22][N 9] The few survivors were recovered by the four surviving destroyers, which withdrew to Japan.[22]
      From the first attack at 12:37 to the explosion at 14:23, Yamato was hit by at least 11 torpedoes and 6 bombs. There may have been two more torpedo and bomb hits, but this is not confirmed.

    Operation Ten Go or as mostly known Yamato Suicide Mission
    Was the mission to send Yamato to hold off the Americans when she got attacked by 280 planes and hit by 7 torpedos and 9 bombs(might be wrong on hit numbers) and of crouse got strafed by fighters too by the end of the first wave of attack she was capsizing and sinking meanwhile her Sister Musashi took more hits to go down 11 torpedoes and 14 bombs(than again might be wrong but scale is ok) because what the US did with Musashi is they get droppong her both sides soo thus she could easily damage control the flooding thus Yamato taking less to sink because the US learnt to attack the same side
    Of course after what happened to Musashi the IJN refitted Yamato with more AA but mostly it was the fact of removing 2x3 6 inch guns that were on the deck soo it gone from 3x3 18.1inch guns and 4x3 6.1 inch guns to 3x3 18.1s and 2x3 6.1 inch guns
    As for the 3rd ship she was the IJN Shinano actually built and sank by submarine the 4th ship got its name Shikishima but never laid down and 5th i dont remember seeing a reference to her name anywhere
    Her planes were actually scout planes but they could carrie out strikes with Bombs and or Torpedoes if was needed but could also act as fighters although never used as such but only as spotters
    Just a brief history :)

    The Yamato sunk because it didn't have 12milimeter inch anti aircraft guns, instead, Japan turned it into 25milimeter inch guns, which made the Yamato Class vulnerable to aircrafts. It then only had guns to take ships out, but even THAT would not work. Because Yamato may be strong and armored, but if you could go throughout its armor and impulse it, you'd hit the magazine or other vulnerable explosive stuff, which would lead to a self-destruct that explodes the whole ship. So its rather useless then to put very powerful guns on it because it then would be than the chance it explodes is then even more. (Also this took me a very long time to make so i'd rather get a applause or get atleast a comment.)

    The Yamato is like the German Zeppelins but with supreme firepower and guns, basically a glass cannon but with incredibly short range. There's a reason why the Americans easily sunk it while it barely had any chance to fight back.

    As German, „Graf Zeppelin“ was ok, in German you’d speak the p more pronounced.
    As for the „Cologne“ well the thing is the city of Cologne is written Köln in German. Which is spelled and spoken completely differently than Cologne. But thumps up for trying!

    • @asavita8745
      @asavita8745 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on where it hits. Top deck hit would penetrate into the second to third deck, destroying a few stored planes, killing a lot of crew and disabling the runway. A few gas fires as well but most would be put out by pumps.
      Belt armor hit broadside would penetrate if it was using AP but if it's not under the water line it probably would not sink. Maybe disable the engine. HE broadside would probably do the same.
      Bow hit would bounce harmlessly.
      Stern hit would rake the interior and probably 1-2 hit the ship.

    Well IJN Yamato was the biggest Battleship created and put to sea, however the Germans had created Blueprints for the KMS Gröber Kürfurst which if it was constructed it would have been the biggest and most powerful Warship to be created however it was armed with 420mm, 16.5 inch gun with 12 barrels compared to the 9 on Yamato with 3 Triple guns. But additionally most of Yamato’s secondary armament was AA guns with low - Caliber guns compared to Kürfurst inheriting the turrets mounted on KMS Bismarck and Tirpitz. If you were to put the warship in a brawl Kürfurst would most likely overpower the Yamato due to the 3 additional barrels and secondary armament meant to rip other warships apart. This is not it official name but this is based on the H class Super Battleship being created for the German navy. While the main problem would be with America if the USS Montana was created
    since Montana was designed to rival Yamato and send it do the bottom of the ocean but, Yamato was sunk by a overwhelming force of aircraft. To sum it all up if Germany’s Super battleship was created It would have been the biggest and most powerful Warship to hit the waves, maybe even more powerful than the famed Yamato.
    This is just random facts no one asked for.

    American ships were generally all fire power little armour. Easy to sink but hit hard. Their air craft carriers even had wooden decks. By comparison, british ships were all defence, often sialing from battles where a single ship took more direct shots than the US Navy. But their ability to inflict damage was far more lacking.
    The design choices were based on the oceans they were sailing in, but both ended up jealous of the other. American ships were vulnerable to kamikaze and other cheap and difficult to stop attacks that British ships would be unohased by.
    Meanwhile Britain often found itself out gunned and just taking shot after shot from better armed German vessals. Often having to rely on advanced tactics to win engagments. If they had been better armed and focused less on armour thwy could have theoritcally defeated the german ships much quicker and taken less damage all in all.
