The first Singa music I liked from Sen 3 was Step Ahead. This boss theme has a similar vibe :) ***Update 3/20/24= I was reviewing some JRPG music. Came across Night of Azure's Edge of Apocalypse (2015). The first few seconds of this theme and that theme's are almost the same.

I feel like this track have the "something feels off, but I guess we're doing this", somehow that and his timing to unveil himself just made me assume he's a unbeatable boss 😂
Genuinely much better than any of those OSTs he composed in Sen 3 or 4. This one has got that natural flow in music, and that beginning makes me feel like fighting for justice (which is the case in Hajimari) The fight that left me with the deepest impression was that C 2VS4+6+8 (hopefully this is clear enough) very nice plot building and definitely one of the most classic scene.

I like the songs because I actually like them, I like 90% of Singa's stuff, doesn't stop me from having problems with them tho. And there are some composers about in the comments, Aoki and YourVinished most notably, and there are also people like me and Josep, who don't compose but know about music composition and instrumentation. And saying the instruments are bad is a legit complaint.

@@Vandalieu How many I think is too many depends on the composer and the size of the ost. I think Singa has too many in Ys IX and a perhaps bit too many in this game as well. Now here's the thing, if Jindo had that many tracks I would also say that he had too many since all external composers have pretty much zero context for what the music is for to the point where Jindo didn't even know he made music for Cold Steel 4 until after the game was released. Internal composers, like Unisuga and Sonoda, do get context and as a result, should probably be doing the bulk of the ost, leaving externals to pitch in maybe around, 10? or so tracks each to add variety to the ost. (I personally wouldn't want Falcom to completely stop using Singa, since I do tend to like his stuff and it does add to the ost so long as he isn't overused.) The reason Singa gets so much to do in each ost is that he's cheap and quick, which fits in perfectly with modern Falcom's business mindset. It also for many people, including myself, really doesn't help that externals keep making the music for a ton of important roles. Unisuga made pretty much all the enforcer battle themes until Cold Steel 3, where Singa's music was used instead. Jindo made the final boss and final dungeon theme of Cold Steel 4, Singa made one of Ys IX's final boss themes and the main antagonist's battle theme. McBurn's battle theme in CS3 was by Unisuga, then in CS4 Singa has the job. Singa keeps making the opening themes, and the list goes on. Tracks like Step Ahead, To the Future, Trails Towards Tomorrow, ect, aren't bad, but since they were made without context, they are notably weaker in their usage then tracks like Severe Blow, Spiral of Erebos, Senkou no Yukue, ect.
It's not bad (Actually good tbh), but I kinda feel like it's ..... randomly at some point, I think??? Almost every Singa's OST have part where it's just randomly put there, like Bold Assailants in CS4, suddenly switch to pirate mode out of no where (it's still good though). I won't say about his instrument cause I have zero knowledge about them.
What's really frustrating is that the composition itself is fine it's just the guitar that really drags it down, he definitely should've chosen a different guitar tone for this one.

I've actually enjoyed Singa's Ys VIII and IX work quite a bit. I prefer him over Unisuga, who just puts out songs that sound like Jindo if he had no money to hire live musicians. He also doesn't lean so hard on the Falcom music formula of "here's a guitar hook, now here's the same hook but with violins"
