I agree 100% and I LOVE Roll for the Galaxy. This expansion adds TOO much to the game. Its like taking yatzee and adding Gin Rummy at the same time. This could have been a whole separate game and it probably would have been great, like Dice Forge. All I really wanted out of another expansion would be adding a player and that money track extension seems like a cool idea. A way to invade other player's planets with military dice and poaching production dice off their planet would have been an AMAZING expansion. (BTW I would totally buy a space exploration themed dice forge.)
I wish they didn't have three modules all together. I just wanted more tiles, starting planets, and new dice. I feel like it's a waste to pay for this since I don't care for the other two. Sigh...
I'm a very big fan of RFTG (it's in my top 20), and I don't think I need this expansion (yet). I do really like Ambition, but I'm not sure I like enough of what the deal adds that I'd want to lengthen the game for it. Like Tom mentioned, I like RFTG because of how quick and smooth it plays (once everyone knows what they are doing).
Roll for the Galaxy plus Ambition is a really good, fast game. I wish Rivalry was separate expansions, especially the new starting tiles. I passed on New Frontiers as well. I was hoping for a spacial element in a Race/Roll for the Galaxy game. A mashup between Spacecorp Starfarers map the Race/Roll for the Galaxy mechanisms.
Roll for the galaxy is in my top 5 of all time and I don't think I will get this expansion for the same reasons you specified. I hope to play it one day but for now, i'll stick with my copy combined with ambition.
Even the achievements of Ambition were kinda superfluous. This expansion is just ridiculous, but I haven't played it so I can't say for sure. But, essentially we just want more tiles. Don't fix what ain't broken.
I wish they included something to make it more player interactive... Like attack other players technologies etc... So we can have a choice to play a more aggressive game
They MORE stuff should just be a separate expansion cause i really dont care bout the other two modules... Just too much jeez. I just want new tiles thats it.
yeah, the price is a deal breaker for me... same as with New Frontier game... really live to buy it... but the price is just unrealistic. So I will wait for a sale.... huge one
although the changing dice seems like a cool idea, the cost of the expansion is just too high to get it. The game is good as it is. I was hoping for more content but this may have just put it over the edge. Too bad.
Well done, Tom! You're a straight shooter. This is just too much stuff to mess with as an expansion. Plus it costs an arm and a leg. I bet this expansion will be on deep discount in just a few months. I personally think the customizable dice is a disaster in any game. I don't like Dice Forge for that reason. It's just fiddly and time consuming. Please designers, no more customizable dice games.
Both expansions seem so inelegant in comparison to the base game. I'll keep my Roll vanilla. This one as well as the first expansion just seem like unneeded bloat.
Agreed. As I was watching this I was thinking.."holy crap, they just made this nice, smooth, quick playing game incredibly fiddly." The only thing I really want in Roll expansions is more tiles. Maybe I'm in the minority.
Thanks for the heads up, but from a technical standpoint this was a terrible review: constantly out of focus, very brief and incomplete description of what's in the box. Feels rushed.

I thought it said "the dice toner" in the background for a bit

Think you mixed up "Deal" and "Research". Research allows you to change the yellow die. Deal interacts with the Deal Board.
Great commentary on the different modules after you did rules. We're aligned on the value of this expansion.
While I understand the reasoning behind combining the three expansions, I'm in the same boat; I just want to be able to buy the extra tiles and dice.

Considering I haven't played with Ambition and the quest/mission cards yet, I guess I shouldn't rush for this expansion.

The Deal Game is actually quite interactive, directly so - though it is not negative interaction (eg. takeovers in RvI/BoW)
I agree with this review, extra stuff great, alien orb awesome, deals (I want to try them again) not my favorite.
all of them seem really cool. I'll play them all at some point :D
The game is already complex enough. Not sure I will be getting the expansion. I find it really hard to teach the game to new players.

This expansion costs more than New Frontiers! Ridiculous.

budsticky No, you’re not. I bought Ambition, but only for the new tiles. I rarely play with the objectives.
Wow. Tom spent so much time talking about the one third of the expansion he didn’t like. Why not spend that time on what he did like.
This is worth 40 dollar maximal. Not almost 100! Never.
Don't like the look of this. Bogs down the game.
