Interesting. I don’t see Matthieu going to Chanel only because Bottega is doing extremely well under him and I see them offering more pay so that he doesn’t leave. Especially since Kering can’t afford for any of their brands to fall off during this luxury sales slump and I don’t see anyone else at Bottega right now.

Especially when bottega is the only luxury fashion brand under kerring that is doing well when looking at their last financial report

Been thinking about this all weekend. Selfishly, I want Matthieu Blazy to stay at Bottega. His high-craft and intelligent approach to design makes his collections at BV so desirable! I want nearly every piece that goes down his runways...especially his coats. ugh lol He'd do well at Channel I think! He's a designer's designer. He knows how to work within the house codes, yet puts his own stamp on the brands he works at. I hope after seeing the multiple puff pieces that came out the past couple days, Kering pays MB whatever he wants so he stays. lol TBH, I think Galliano and MJ have better chances, especially with Anna Wintour seeming to back those two (Galliano's MM haute couture show push by Vogue, Marc's "guest editor" piece for Vogue).

I do think Chanel would love someone French, which limits the options, that's why I even considered Jacquemus. Blazy didn't cross my mind bc he's doing so well at BV and it feels like he only just became CD but otherwise, it makes TOTAL sense. I just didn't imagine Chanel (or he) would be such sharks.
Chanel would be extremely lucky to get him - not the other way around. He's the hottest kid rn, can't say that about the rest.
He's proved he can innovate using the atelier and crafters and he's been working in the shadows at the most critically acclaimed level (from Raf to Phoebe's Celine and even Margiela) for over a decade. Yes, he's intellectual (like Karl) but he also has the more playful side we saw this year so we could get some whimsy back at Chanel while preserving the gravitas of the brand.

I am not sure if his aesthetic will suit Chanel …. Hopefully he won’t become another ‘Daniel Lee’ who becomes ‘unpopular’ after leaving BV

Even though I’d be incredibly saddened for BV to lose Matthieu… this would propel Chanel into the modern world from a fashion and business standpoint. Blazy is such a safe space in this industry, he could really lend his voice in many ways to a somewhat controversial house. I’m still oddly pro MK&A for Chanel… but MB would be ICONIC as well 🖤

With all the high expectations, I really think Chanel needs a creative director who can surprise everyone from the first look from the first collection. Matthieu's first look at Bottega was a white tank top and a pair of jeans(No matter what they are made of) Does Chanel think this is enough for them?

It wouldn’t be surprising if Chanel’s creative creation direction remains as is , it’s more strategic (from a business perspective) to keep the creative direction faceless (not unlike a maxmara etc ) a specific creative director deflects away from the principal that Chanel itself is far greater than the sum of its parts.
It’s easier to play musical chairs with creative direction behind the scenes without the publicity of another departure which deflects away from the brand.
the last collection confirms that this is already in full effect .

I think he could give Chanel a very solid future. Fashionwise, he will make Chanel far more interesting for me and will ditch the superfluous infuencer culture. They need Chanel to be Chanel and customers to buy in vs. Chanel designed to appeal to markets Your analysis is astute. Chanel just needs to be hard core Chanel, otherwise their brand as a great house is done. I want to see women not gamine girls. Give people a reason and their jaw to drop to the floor with wearable classics and ditch the cutesy stuff. Chanel needs a backbone of reliable pieces to build on to make people that have turned to more conservative brands want to buy again. I do believe The Row and Bottega customers are Chanel customers. You never burn your brand by dropping quality or playing games with the manufacturing/purchasing experience. PS I love how the Hirschleifers style their Chanel and represent it. I want Chanel woman not Chanel girl.

Some people are saying they don't want Blazy to leave Bottega, so why can't he design for Chanel AND Bottega at the same time? Karl designed for Chanel, Chloe, Fendi and his own brand simultaneously and there was never a conflict of interest. If Karl could handle multiple fashion houses at one time, maybe Blazy can too.

its Blazy. because he like Hedi Slimane but Blazy without a demand for percent of the perfume sales and or copyright his designs. Both designers are super hot in a declining fashion market great move Chanel.

I think the designers doing well currently are those who're good at bags/accessories. Blazy is good at those, so I can see them trying to get him on board. He's proven to be good at reintrepreting brand stories, so maybe he'll be a good fit.

IMO, neither Blazy nor Anderson would be well suited for Chanel. First of, their creative process is always so intellectual. Yes, their quirks may work for the runway to a certain extent but I don’t think they’ll translate to commercial success. Hence why both Loewe & BV are still so “niche” (in a way), their market share is just incomparable to Chanel. Besides, I think their designs would isolate a lot of the clients who prefer more feminine & elegant look.

I agree that Matthieu has this 'dryness' that works for other brands like Hermes. He wouldn't be my first pick for Chanel - it would be Marc (he so deserves it and will revive the brand image), and second would be Hedi who could help bring the cool glam factor back. Also, didn't know you were half Asian - love the representation in the YT fashion community!

Hey Mary, the long comment you read was mine 😂😂😂 Well I really love Mattieu Blazy, but as a French and a Parisian, I think french fashion has lost something quentescencialy Parisian. Mathieu is great, I really lobe his work, but not for Chanel. He will be great at hermes tho.

Chanel is something, I don’t know if ever we have another brand like that 🤔🙏❤️

I like this idea. He understands working with a Heritage brand. I also believe he would work to improve the quality issues that Chanel is having. We shall see🤔... l think that Hedi is too polarizing. For everyone saying that Hedi would bring a younger customer.... , the younger customers would come, see the Chanel rtw prices, turn around, and run right back to Celine.🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️. Or if he wants to bring the younger customer , he also better bring some old people 👵👴🧓 money💰💰💰 to give to this younger customer because most young people don't have $15k and up to spend on a Chanel look.

Do you think quality and production issues of major houses are within the purview of Creative directors nowadays? I have a feeling they aren’t and cannot be; the production side for a major house is its own behemoth. It’s why all the established designers who have succeeded at major houses can never to back to doing their own independent labels despite a loyal following - they’re now so divorced from the minutia of finishing garments. Chanel’s manufacturing issues have long plagued the label whereas the likes of Bottega, Hermes and Loewe have been consistently great. Even as a layperson I can see so many shoddy manufacturing choices in a classic Chanel flap bag, from stitch count to the substantiality of its quilting, and that is even before the amateurish stitching issues in recent years. God forbid even Coach does a better job of putting a bag together. Karl managed to override those issues with the magnificence of the catwalk shows and the couture (mainly on the embroidery side, the silhouettes were sometimes very questionable). What Chanel needs are some Japanese Technicians on the manufacturing side - seriously the Japanese know how to put fashion tens together like no one else

    • @markjohnson2257
      @markjohnson2257 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@seanyeo- Great points!! Chanel is such a behemoth with factories all over the place. He is not in charge of production or quality control. It is wishful thinking to think that he can fix their quality issues but maybe he can take his knowledge from BV and move the needle just a bit.

I love his work the designs he has created for Bottega Venetta. I hope he doesn’t leave Bottega anytime soon. Considering how creative and successful his collections have been even while the industry has been experiencing a downturn is impressive. it is not surprising that Chanel would be interested in poaching him.
