    Thanks for a clear explanation. Much better than the online description.

    PON stands for "Passive Optical Network", not "Point on the network" - hope that helps.

      Not "Power On Now" ??

    Does it need to be plugged into the power socket itself? Just moved to the new place and doesn’t seem to be anything else with it

    • @Builtbypete
      @Builtbypete  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, a BT ONT needs power. So you need a plug socket nearby.

    Can the ONT from the master socket be switched off.

    What does it mean if power and PON have a green light but the LAN doesn’t

    • @Builtbypete
      @Builtbypete  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It means there's no connection between router and PON. Maybe there is a router error.

    So is it normal that might lan led is mostly flashing green all the time ? But everything else is solid green

      Yep, the LAN light flashes indicating traffic

      Mines flashing and going fully off. I don’t know if that’s normal cause the WiFi keeps going on and off

    I install the fibre, if you have a red light it means bad light or no light atall getting to the property, if you pull the internal cable out it will show up red as there is a loss of light to the ont, also your lan will always flash when using the network and the pon should stay solid

    • @aidenwhelan3973

      What could a solid orange light mean ? Not flashing just a light that is solid orange . What could the issue be and how could I try fix it ? Thank you

    • @carguys7298
      @carguys7298 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@aidenwhelan3973 Solid red light means there is no light coming through the fibre, could either mean a brake in the cable inside the csp or an issue up the pole or further afield what area are you from ?

    My PON just keeps flashing, I’ve done multiple resets on the modem but it’s going nowhere
    Any ideas?

      Sounds like BT service maybe down. Might be worth checking their service page on their website.

    My LAN keeps flashing and going off completely. It’s causing the entire box to restart. What’s going on.

    • @Builtbypete
      @Builtbypete  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, that's not right at all. You definitely need to call BT for that one.

    So to use my own router can I just unplug the bt one and plug mine in (archer ax11000)? With virgin I had to pass through the virgin router to get it to work.

    • @Builtbypete
      @Builtbypete  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Richard. Yes, the virgin router can be out into modem mode. With the BT service, the ONT becomes the modem so you plug the router I to that. You will need to change the account settings in the your router. These are the changes I had to make to my ASUS router th-cam.com/video/DueAvG-dCHU/w-d-xo.html

      @@Builtbypete thanks it seems to be working I just had to change the connection type and enter the bt username and password. Getting a respectable 815 down 110 up wired to my pc

      @@Builtbypete I messed with the settings and the default one that was in the settings already was 1480. That seems to be the highest it could go without packet loss. Well 1452 in cmd

      It was worth a try. There may be a few features in the router effecting the speed. Not familiar with your router type, but might be worth experimenting..

    • @Builtbypete
      @Builtbypete  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like the service is down from Plusnet. Go to their website and check service faults. BT also has a service checker. You can also use a website called "Downdetector"

    What does it mean if the PON light is not on at all, and the LOS light is red.

    • @Builtbypete
      @Builtbypete  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Looks like there is no signal between the ONT to the BT network. You need to get in touch with BT customer services.

    Looks like Ethernet to the router, I think the current boxes use Rj11 with a 1m cable to the EE router. So the new router has to be close to the box.

    • @Builtbypete
      @Builtbypete  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      On my BT ONT the router is connected via RJ45. My router was on a different floor of the house so I ran an ethernet cable myself and terminated an RJ45 connector on each end.

      I'd the power supply is on and plugged in, then it's either power supply or the modem it's is faulty.

      I accidentally unplugged my modem, plugged it back in and its only showing the first 2 green lights, it's been like that for quite a while, the modem is practically brand new, about two months old got it from BT when I moved into my new flat,
      Do I need to call out BT to fix it or is there something I can do?
      Ant help would be grateful 😉😉👍

    • @Builtbypete

      seems like the modem hasn't synched to BT. Try rebooting the router and turning off and on again the modem. If it doesn't sync you'll have to call BT. Also make sure none of the LEDs from the modem have come unplugged.

    Hi , excellent video. I'm not very good with computers, but would it be possible if you could do a full video on the smart hub manager on each of the tabs including the advanced settings. And also show how to import contacts into the Hub. If this is possible that would be much appreciated.
