    This is quite a long video, but I thought it might be of use to anyone that has one of these or something similar. A friend of mine asked me if I could take a look at what can only be described as an outstanding Boombox from the early 80s. In this video I sort out the cassette deck and do a quick look over while I was at it.

    It’s a1978 model. The last of the premium models towards the end of the 70’s.

    The keen eyed will have noticed 11 September written on the sticker of the motor of this machine at timestamp 23:49. It's successor, the GF-9292, was well into production by August 1979, which suggests this machine dates to 1978.

      The GF-555 and GF-666 have large metal capstans and sound good with powerful speakers, compared to the later models that have cheap, flimsy plastic parts and tiny speakers. The GF-9191 featured in this video is one of the "beef-eaters" of the early '80s boombox era.

    Thank for the great video and explanation. Recently buy a 9191 HB ,defective for the moment,lots of mechanical issues no ruber belts and more...
    i will apreciate if you share the dimensions of the ruber belts at least the flat one from motor to capstan.
    Thank you in advance.

    I was shouting at the screen the first time you took it apart “Change the feckin’ belts and pinch roller!” 🤦‍♂️
    I also had a feeling your test cassette choice would be the Thompson Twins - Quick Step & Side Kick 👍🙂

    Hi! I have a sharp gf 9090, which I believe has the same cassette mechanism as the 9191 one, and my problem is that when I press pause, the cassette tape still goes on. I have took it apart to have a look at it, and it seems to me that when I press the button, it doesn't pull the idler wheel away as much as it should, so the tape is still being driven by the motor. Any advice on fixing it? My idea is that I have changed the idler and the capstan rubber which you have replaced in this video, and maybe it's a bit bigger than the original one. Moreover, the auto stop system doesn't work at all. Thank you in advance!

      @MatthewNorthMusic  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Id guess clean the volume and balance sliders with contact cleaner first

      done that now, still no sound coming out of the speaker unless its at almost zero volume, could it be a problem with the pre-amp? Thanks for your help!

      The first thing would be to make sure that the lever is aligned up with the switch on the circuit board and that the circuit board switch is cleaned
