Great project which I'm following closely, you have inspired me to eventually get on and recommission my old gs550e, it's on old 1984 model which I have owned since the early 90's and been off the road for about 16yrs! i too have had to clean tank out of loads of rust and lined it, now on to the carbs, your prev' vids on this will come in very useful. Jeff
Andy's Motorcycle Obsessions cheers for the encouragement Andy, it's been many many years since I worked on m/cycles did all my own mechanical work when I was younger "many 2strokers in those days!" really enjoying what I've done so far and still learning as I go, I regretted selling all the bikes I had in the early 80's some of them would now fetch decent money, but wouldn't let this one go! it's the only 4stroke I have ever owned and was my daily ride to work in all weathers for about 10years incredibly reliable and cheap to run, so yeah I got attached to this one, it'll cost a fair bit in parts but it'll be worth it if I can her road worthy again. I've invested in a set JIS screw drivers lols so hopefully won't chew too many heads. J
This could never become the same kind of saga that Del's "thing" ( I hesitate to call it a project) has become, I mean, how many epispdes??? ( I stopped after the T shirt/resin one). Top bit of lapping there! ....OOooh missus!
sorry to hear about your mate. Do the mp circlip pliers have a warranty, I thought they supposed be quality. Also where do I get one of those t-shirts?
That’s a good question, I’m not sure about the warranty. Doesn’t matter as I’ve already ordered a new pair. As for the shirt I bought it, two actually, from a shop in Auckland New Zealand, don’t remember the name of the shop sorry.
G’day John, that is entirely your choice mate. I personally have no problem using the K&N oval pod filters, and my engine owes me thousands. I don’t want to try and influence you one way or another mate, sorry.
Steady away Andy, nice to see you back on the tools mate. Loving the vids.
Good to see you back Andy helps to get the mind of things for a little bit working on something witch you enjoy doing
Nice to see you back Andy, getting stuck back into the GS1000 will be good therapy for you... thumbs up mate. 👍

Get after Jeff, it deserves to be back on the road. Just imagine how proud you’ll be when you get her going again.

Hey Andy lost my best mate 18 years ago he was 35, got an old Kat 1100 with flatslides, should I go back to stock airbox for engine longevity?
