Red-tailed Hawk Release - Wild Care Cape Cod

This beautiful Red-tailed Hawk who is a beloved part of a Wakefield, MA neighborhood was struck by a vehicle and suffered head trauma and a fractured toe. He recovered quite quickly from the head trauma and was placed in our large aviary a week after arrival. The fractured toe did not heal well enough to function, and after several exams by Dr. Morgan it was decided that the toe needed to be removed. Since raptors capture prey with their talons it was fortunate that the bird was still able to hunt as usual and was able to be released.
