Now it's a Euphorbia White Toast 🍞🍞🍞 😂. Thanks for the great content Fern!! 💕🌿
🥁 Ba dum tisssss 👏 👏 👏
Hahahah omg 🥲😂
Virtually all cacti can grow in full sun from sunrise till sunset. It’s important to remember that many cacti come from countries near the equator and grow in high altitude, where the sun is much more intense than up north. Even on a cloudless summer day, it’s still not as strong.
The hair is actually one of the many defense mechanisms cacti have against harsh sun. White hair reflect some of the light. Which is why hairy and very spiny cacti need a lot of light.
The problem is when people grow their cacti indoors and then put them out in the sun. They get scorched, because they’ve gotten adapted to shady conditions and haven’t developed their defense mechanisms against excessive sunlight. Once they get used to it, they can stay out in the sun all summer long. It’s actually how they’re supposed to grow.
Makes a lot of sense! Thank you for this informative comment 😊
I live in sunny South Florida and my Monkey Tail and White Ghost love it. Actually, all of my cactus and succulents live outside all year round.
Hi Fern, you should move your ghost closer on the shelf with less direct light and yes they drink more than we think
💚💚💚 Oh Fern, you just made my Monday morning SO much brighter. 🌵 update! 🥰
awww so glad to hear that! have a wonderful week :)
My monkey tail hangs out on my porch all year, even through winter. He gets direct South African morning sun until about 11h30am and loves it! ❤
Money tail plant so beautiful 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Nice sharing 🎉🎉🎉❤
Yes, please do an update in the fall!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤ Have a great week!!!!
i’m from southern california, and honestly we keep all our succulents and cacti outside in direct sun! the sun here is super strong too, but they love it!! i swear the moment i move any succulents or cacti to direct sun they go crazy!! and there’s so many of them that get beautiful sun stress and flowers too (:
My monkey tail cactus was growing inside in bright indirect light, and it was looking so scraggly I couldn't stand it, and then I dropped it and broke a sad scraggly piece off, and I had a "if you live you live" moment and put it outside in direct sun for several hours a day in the texas summer (90s-100s F) and now she's thriving!! She put out so many babies and is looking lovely.🎉
My spiral cactus didn’t start growing til I put it in full sun. Now it’s grown a few inches since late June!
I have had a monkey tail for 15yrs. It is almost always in direct or almost direct sun. I live in FL, so it's very hot here. 😊
all of my succs are in clay pots, loose mix of sand, chicken grit, perlite, a little promix. i bottom water in batches in a deep pan and let them soak . better a good soak, just a little top watering seems to result in shallow roots. im a big fan from northern minnesota❤
Love your videos and thanks for all the great information and entertainment.
An update in the Fall prior to going inside would be great!
This gave me a new appreciation for cacti and succulents, I’m really motivated to care for mine more!! Thankyou for the video❤
Hello Fern☺️🌿
So happy to see a new video from you!🎉
Hello 😊 thanks for watching!
I LOVE this!! I'm 100% in my succulent era so this was so awesome to see
JYSK being an IKEA knock off but worse is such an accurate description. Like, JYSK makes IKEA feel like LUXURY. 😂 Also omg, I also struggled connecting the RODE wireless mics with my iPhone, and I used the lightning adapter for my phone, but never quite figured it out. One time I did, and NEVER again. Totally relate. And also, 100% - cameras outside = hell (or I just don't know how to work mine :D )
Omg you have JYSK too?! Lmao 😆
Yes literally I am such an un-techy person like I have no idea how this is my job sometimes hahah 🥲😂
@@wildfern Hi Fern, yes we have JYSK all over Europe. Love the video.
@@wildfern It's a Danish company, but they're everywhere 😆 love the Ikea comparison 😂
Jysk used to be a mattress store
@@wildfern We do! :D I don't love them🙈 I am IKEA snob 😂I do believe I am tech savvy but at the same time tech is my biggest enemy and robots will kill me first when they take over the world. 😅
Your bear paw is SO cute! Love the outdoor content 🪴⭐️✨
Yay, much appreciated! Would love, love an update in autumn!
You got it! Thanks for watching 😊
I love your monkey tail, it's just all over and growing crazy. Love the vibes! 🤘🏻
I have my monkey-tail cactus in a shaded area and spiral cactus in sun for about 6 hrs. a day. They’re both doing well. Loved seeing your collection! 💚✨🌵
Hey Fern yes i grow my Monkey tail out in full sun here in Alberta but water it weekly its all flowers all summer. Regards Duncan
no matter the content, i love tuning in, your voice is so soothing i can just listen on repeat!!
love all ur cacti/succulents!! so cuteee
Thank you 🥹🥹🥰
Don't worry about the cold nights. The desert is near freezing at night!
Fern, the video's sound is great, and the succulent setup is vibing.
Your setup looks great! That monkey tail has just taken off!
Thanks so much :)
My variegated bear paw just like yours has the prettiest pinkish cream subtle flowers on it. I'm obsessed!
I've been craving more cactus and succulent content from you! So stoked for this video!
Loved this!! i think cacti and succs are underrated and i like seeing content about them, especially from my favorite creator 💚
Love that succulent/cacti set up!! I have the Golden Barrel & Blue Torch cacti!! I really want a Monkey Tail though!! 😎😎😎😎🪴🪴🪴🪴
Your ghost euphorbia is honestly looking the best it’s ever looked in my opinion, it’s got some burns and stuff for sure, but seeing it in the background early in the video I could already tell it’s grown quite a lot more over the summer than it has in the past and it seems to finally be taking off I think. I find with succulents it’s best to lean into into damage, in the wild they get damaged like CRAZY and it often is what triggers branching, and flowering, not to mention spreading from broken off pieces. Honestly in my own collection if a succulent is looking a little too perfect I’ll break random pieces off or chop it up and 9/10 times they respond fabulously
I’m loving this video. I remember you potting them all up.
Your love of and excitement for your cactus collection is so fun to watch and inspired me to start collecting some of my own❤ I picked up one of those Haworthia with the rosette pattern and window leaves myself right before you got one and it was so exciting when you got one too lol love sharing this journey with you
Such cute plants!! I'm glad to see them liking the outdoors 😊 I'm too scared to put any of my indoor plants outside and bring more thrips or other pests in like I did last year 😅 I'm still fighting them a year later and didn't want to add even more to my issue 😂
Maybe someday I'll do plants outside in the summer again😅
I kinda like that the ghost cactus has a birthmark. or a battle scar lol. At least it doesn't wither away like a monstera albo leaf hah
That eves pin looks wicked.
Audio is perfect. Very crisp.
I’ve been watching your videos a lot lately and I just wanna say that I really love your videos and they’ve helped me get out of a plant slump I’ve been in all summer❤️thank you for your content!!
That hawarthia Cooper is stunning. So almost see through.
You've literally saved my miserable Monday evening 💚💚 can't wait
been waiting for your cactus and succulent updates!!😍😍
hope you enjoy!! 🌵
Hi fern! I've had the spiral cactus since last year. I love it! but I find it's very susceptible to getting burnt. Mine seems to like a bit lower light and a little more water :) love the monkey tail !!!! 🌵
I’d never seen that pink spikey/bulb cactus before!! A new pink babe to add to my wishlist! 😍
It’s so fun!! 🌵
At 8:30 the _Sinocrassula_ are very cool. And that’s true when you said they’re happier outside, especially where you’re living. I would think. The species name _yunnanensis_ is referring to Yunnan in China, so slightly similar weather patterns.
If you didn’t know (and many don’t), the genus _Sinocrassula_ is very similar in growth habit to _Sempervivum_ (houseleeks, hen & chicks) and _Orostachys_ (Chinese dunce cap) in that they like colder weather, but just need to be protected from rain or saturated soil. They’re actually perennial succulents, which can stump a lot of people. And probably explains why many gardeners where I’m at (San Diego) can’t figure them out! 😂 We’re so used to sticking things in the ground as cuttings and walking away, and maybe watering weekly when needed. But these perennial succs go dormant at some point in the fall. The roots are alive though! So…many people will toss the plant, thinking it’s dead, but they’re actually asleep! 😊
“Living, laughing, loving” 😂💚💚💚
Looks great !
JYSK is in germany, too! I think it is danish? So fun that they made it all the way to canada!
Ohh I had no idea lol!! I thought they were just a weird Canadian thing hahah 😆
@@wildfernwe have Jysk in Sweden too.
I do grow mine in full sun. Didn’t know it would scorch. And I’m in Florida. So far so good. But I won’t keep testing that
I'm getting really into cactus I just potted 3 I got today in mail..love your vids fern ❤❤
For spooky month, maybe do something with the monkey tail? Looks like an 👽 to me. 😂 Hope you are doing that series this year. I love it! ☠️👻
yesss it's definitely giving alien creature vibes 😆🖤
I purchased a monkey tail cactus awhile back because of your influence! It took me forever to find one local, but I’m so happy I got it when I did 🥰
Thank you so much for this video that reminded me to fertilize my cacti (that are also currently on the porch for the summer!🌵
You’re so welcome 😊 thanks for watching!
My monkey tails grow in high heat and high light here in Australia. They live outside year round.
Cactus and succulent video? It’s my lucky day!! 🌵💚
Haworthia is my favorite genus 😊
I like that hawarthia blue mirror. They look translucent.
The Chinese jade is really cute.
Love all your 🌵🌵🌵🌵
Hello Fern from Puerto Rico!! My Monkey Tail Cactus is getting morning NE sun and illumination during the day. It’s doing great. 👍🏻 The white ghost euphoria is getting full sun and it has not burned. Maybe it was a gradual thing…
Loving your deck setup queen 🥰🌵🪷
I got my first monkey tail this past winter. It’s just one tall stock, but I have it in a south facing windowsill and it’s giving me a bloom.
Correction: stalk
Hi fern 🌿 I sent you a message on IG asking you about the acrylic riser shelfs you have on your Vittsjo (where did you get them??) and was wondering if you could provide some info about the difference between the T5 & T8 Barrina lights.. Would be cool if you could do a video about grow lights and some info on those. I'm about to get Vittsjo shelving and will need to buy grow lights for it soon. I have a large Hoya collection so will need good lights for it! :) thank you for your content!! 💚
I give my monkey tail cactus full eastern sun. It gets sun until about 2 or 3pm. But you have to make sure it stays hydrated. Same thing with your euphorbia. They will definitely grow more in the summer/ hot weather if you water more frequently. Love your channels Fern!💚 edit to say I’d love an update in the fall!
Makes sense! Thank you so much ☺️🌵
14:04 it almost looks like the spirals is getting etiolated. I only say that because it seems like the swirls are getting further apart compared to the lower half. Maybe it could be that?
I’ve never grown the spiral one specifically but I think it’s just beginning to grow in its new conditions, possibly slightly etiolated, but I find with any of my columnar cactus they always take forever to START growing in my care, and then when they do you can always kind of tell where MY care began and how big it was when I got it, theres always an inch or so of weird growth
Hey Fern!!! Your black grape is being picked by birds I think! Same thing happened to mine when I put it outside !!🤗🐦
It happened while they were inside 😮 so mysterious
Do you need to mix up the Schultz fertilizer? I had regular houseplant Schultz fertilizer and it would settle. Separating liquid from solids.
I love the updates and seeing progression when you move them in at the end of summer. My lifesaver cactus isn’t growing so well in the sun, I’m not sure why, maybe I need to move it to the shade as well, my others are thriving though. Is that decorative rock topping on your succulents or vermiculite?
I love your collection. My local cactus queen mentioned jones cactis juice. Never tried due to price but I want to try yours.
I have a whole cactus and succulent section of my plants.....they are so cute❤
love that 🌵 they're so fun to grow!
I think I have a similar watering can. My only complaint is that the opening is too far forward. I have to be really careful to not tilt the can too far forward. Or I pour out the top.
So excited for this!! 🫰🏽💚🌵
Also, ALL FOR the monkey tail in the Wally grow!! That would look so rad!
Hi Fern, I do find my white ghost takes more water than I thought it would. I bought a fairly big one early spring and it has grown a bunch. I have it in a East window in my sunroom. I have a monkey tail prob a bit bigger than yours, well fuller anyway and it’s hanging outside but in the very early morning sun then shade. I’m also afraid to burn it! It’s been blooming too, love your channel!
I am going to up the watering for mine and see what happens :) thanks for commenting & for watching 🌱🫶
I agree about the Haworthias-so many to choose from. They’re highly collectible. To me they’re like Peperomias in that sense!
Yes!! I already want more lol ☺️
My white ghost euphorbia is doing the same thing, but worse. Plz do a video when you figure her out. I am so sad. Love your content as always 💚
Thanks for watching & I will def update if I figure her out 🤗
Monkey tails here get early am light then shade in the afternoon, still bright. If they get too much the hair turns to spines. I’m in NC 🇺🇸. East morning or west after 4pm for direct sun
If you like flowering cacti, you should try a domino cactus ! I've had mine since March and it has flowered twice since then. It produces beautiful large white flowers.
Lovely❤
I have switched from a camera to my iPhone and love it. I get confused with the R0De microphone, but it is starting to click 😅. I also bought the Gimble and LOVE it.
LOL! 😆 “There’s a fricking spider web” so funny. I am like a maniac now with bugs. If they’re by my plants I kill it immediately and no longer scared.
Your Mamillaria reminds me of the Red Headed Irishmen.
Hi!
Euphorbia are more sensitive to temperature then cactus and I find my white ghost needs more water then cactus as well especially in a fast draining soil.
It may need to be checked in on more frequently.
Good luck! 🌞
I used to be love JYSK, but they got cheaper made stuff the last few years
I’d love stepilia and huernia (?) care vid, my Stepilia is doing great but I watered it once and one finger turned to jelly! Now I’m scared to water it!
I wasn’t perfect putting my plants out, didn’t do it gradually enough, got some burnt leaves etc, I cut everything burnt off and all the new growth it great lol
I know none of my plants may ever be insta worthy, I love their imperfections as is.
None of my succs are doing much yet either, except my jungle cacti, they is goin!
Thank you for all your videos. You are a joy to watch ❤Your euphorbia ghost may be getting burned. Mine was in direct sun too and I burned it to death 😢
I just always neglect my cactus until summer 🥲 thank you for remember me to give them some love too !! ✨
you're so welcome, thank you for watching
I absolutely grow my cleistocactus in full sun with no problems.
Tus videos me transmiten mucha paz, los miro siempre hace años. Kisses from argentina 💖😊
More sun for the Huernia zebrina. Mine has been blooming all summer here in Texas.
Beautiful collection Fern! Also I wanted to mention, I really enjoyed your watering song in this video. The other slower song with the female vocalist can sometimes bring down the mood. Not a critique. Keep doing what you do! Thank you for the great content once again.
Thank you so much, glad you liked it 😊🎶
My monkey tail gets direct light almost all day :)
You should try growing cacti from seed! I have a fairly large cactus now that my son and I started from seed and it's just so fun to see!
Man, if that were my deck I would build a staircase to the backyard, and maybe even expand it for more deck space.
That little stick bug just hanging out lol.
Great video and info, but what happened to your rat tail cactus?
Also just wanted to mention I do have my white ghost in a berg terra cotta pot. 😊
My spiral cactus also looks pale. I think it gets too much sun, but I'm not sure. A lot of my plants in my window sill looks a little pale though.
I have a cleistocactus winteri and once it adapts to the light, it grows well in full sun. The only thing is that it needs more water to grow properly and its spines grow very long and sharp 😅
Thank you Fern ❤ Love you honey 😊
You are so welcome :)
How often do you water your ghost euphorbia?
I’m not a fan of succulents or cacti but I’m going to watch this because you posted it 😂
My Euphorbia needs water more than my cacti. I'm in Texas zone 9b though, so not sure if it's the same issue.
Bear paws have the cutest flowers. I call mine Panda Paws though, a chinese lady gave it to me and that is what they are called in China.
