This is great, love how this guy explains things, actually shows you, no edited scenes. I’ve been into scenery now for about 4 months o love it. I’m defo going to try this, thanks for showing 👍👍
I don't know If it's commercially available in Oz, but here in the uk there's a product called the "hedgehog" it's designed to stop leaves etc blocking roof gutters and downpipes. Basically it's a very long bottle brush 😅 It's sold in 10 meter lengths (maybe it's 5 🤔) Anyway It isn't expensive and is Black in colour, I've found it ideal for mass producing trees very fast! (Especially pines and conifers). I think it's available in 100 and 150 millimeter diameters. (Same method you use here minus the wire and string and the twisting!) Some of your viewers might find this tip helpful so I just thought I'd share 👍
@@greatchesterfordjunction Hi called here in NZ gutter whiskers, designed to stop birds getting into the eves and nesting. Thank you for a great video. Cheers Andrew
Great job Gormo, that tree looks far better than any commercial tree. I always make my own using a slightly different method , but the end result is just like your tree. Cheers Greg
Great video, was watching your tree wiggle around and gave me some ideas for the yard layout and trees blowing in the wind would add a nice touch. Thanks...
What a great looking tree. Your "how to" was so well explained and demonstrated I will definitely now start making my own trees rather than using commercial products. I model in n gauge so the trees are much shorter therefore needing less time to construct. I imagine, and I will, you make a batch at a time and not one by one. Thank you for this and I remember your home made flocking video which I will now revisit to ensure I have sufficient colours. Regards from Poland.
G`day Ian, Yes I do make a batch at a time and it is a lot quicker than it appears on the video, due to not having to explain every step. The home made flocking reduces the cost of trees to practically nothing, so worth a go. Cheers Gormo
G,day Gormo. Not expecting another video so soon. 😃 Thanks for a great tutorial on your novel and effective way of making wonderfully realistic looking trees. Cost effective, too. Best, Jason.
😊Hi there. Great video with fantastic tips/tricks. Dig the way your making the tree. I have not seen this method before. As I am a rather new diorama creator my tree making was with wire. So in my method I seemed to always have blood trail from wire wounds. So yr method was a welcomed creation as was yr jig. Unreal ❤. Many thankz cheerz for now. Denise W.A.
G`day Denise, Glad you enjoyed the video. The method is a compilation of ideas that I have picked up over the years with some of my own ideas thrown in. My trees basically start out as a hairy bottle brush and with a bit of styling and a bit of luck they turn into trees. Factory made trees this size are quite expensive, so there is a considerable cost saving made by rolling your own. You should also check my method for bushes as well th-cam.com/video/X82BmHa6ww4/w-d-xo.html Cheers Gormo
Splendid video. You have the patience of a saint (as my grandmother would say :)). I have to give these a try for my little house villages. Thank you SO much for sharing with all of us.
Thank you irishk.1041 Patience is an asset and a necessity for model railways. Yes please do give it a go, it`s not terribly difficult and I hope they work out well for you Cheers Gormo

Great technique producing superb trees. You mentioned about making your own flocking. What was your base produce and how did you create the flock from it? Thanks.
G`day Peter and thank you. I did a video about 5 years ago explaining how it`s done...link below th-cam.com/video/Q64FK8dDmmw/w-d-xo.html I should point out too that I still have the same coffee grinder and it`s working well. You`ll know what I mean when you see the video. Cheers Gormo
@@greatchesterfordjunction Just made a load of flock from carpet underlay, in different colours and shades, just as you described in your tutorial. Brilliant advice. Thank you.
@@peterwalker6535 No worries...you`re welcome. Don`t forget, that if it dries in clumps, just give it a short whizz in the grinder to break it up. Another thing that I`ve learnt since that video, is that if you put your flocking into a kitchen strainer and give it a shake or a stir around over a container, you will get fine flocking particles passing through into the container. These finer particles are good for bushes or ground cover. Cheers Gormo
I don't know if it's just me but it seems this is how the bulk of these trees are made. and to me they look more like a stalk of broccoli than a tree. trees have openings throughout the branches that allow light to get through and are not as dense as this. the green areas on trees made like this look like the top of a stalk of broccoli it's far too dense and does not look natural
The material is flocking. Commercial varieties are available from your model shop in various colours. I make my own from from foam rubber and acrylic paints as shown in the link below studio.th-cam.com/users/videoQ64FK8dDmmw/edit I hope this has been helpful Cheers Gormo

What diameter of hemp rope are you using? There are all different sizes and don't want to get something too big or too small
The stuff I use says 6mm on the packet.
Minor variation should not be an issue
All the best
