    A view from the UK. Having an older brother that died a heroin addict i can categorically state that the only rehab for addicts is "cold Turkey". As a 45yr old, it took a 5yr prison sentence to dry him out but, alas his body was already shot and died aged 51. Post mortem showed he had a body of an 80yr old. One of the things you very rarely get told is the "other" effects taking narcotics does. It actually eats away your insides, your vital organs. your body tries its best to repair it but fails due to the deluge showered on it. And yes, he broke our family apart.

    • @zubetp
      @zubetp หลายเดือนก่อน

      opiate withdrawal can kill you. "cold turkey" is very dangerous and unwise. it's also not rehabilitative to simply not use anymore without learning coping mechanisms, because the risk of relapse remains. that's why rehab was created in the first place.
      i'm sorry addiction broke your family and took your brother away. it's not fair and none of you deserved it.

    Judge Boyd drug addicts, as with all addicts lie and they lie even if it means it will affect their well being and even life. I know gambling addicts that lie about the money they lose and of where it comes from. With weak willed individuals the addiction is stronger than there will to just stop. But once the addiction is beaten they become thankful and pleasant humans once again.

    The judge should've just let him represent himself. There would be one less sovcit idiot walking around freely

      Not considering that the "sovereign citizen" brand of vexatious litigants are notorious for practicing paper terr0rism (which _can_ negatively impact court staff, witnesses, and law enforcement); clogging up the dockets with BS hearings and motions; and in some jurisdictions, basically write their own appeals after losing when they clearly weren't fit to represent themselves. Smart Judge.

    Yep. This should be the format for all judges to follow. No more back and forth arguments and no more wasting the court's time. Goodbye Mr. sovcit!

    Have you ever represented yourself before?
    Yes
    How's that going for you? In the last 5 months I mean. I already know how it went before that.

    Anybody connected with the Darrell Brooks case in Waukesha this is what a judge looks like. No arguing simply stating the facts. The Darrell brooks case was an endless argument between the judge and the criminal. Alleged criminal? No he was a criminal. No he had a long rap sheet of criminal activity and criminal convictions, so he was a criminal. he hadn’t been tried in that case yet but he was a lifetime career criminal. And yet the judge argued with him as if his sovereign citizen statements had any validity at all. If you took the time those two argued the case probably would’ve lasted a week and a half. I’ve watched that trial several times And the more I watch it the more amazed I am that you had a sitting judge arguing with a complete idiot, as if somehow the judge was responsible to argue his sovereign citizen foolishness. That defendant with this judge would’ve been instantly controlled. That defendant with the judge that ran the trial Was free to do and say anything he wanted and torment his victims. Please please please send us more judges who know how to authoritatively run their Courts.

      I didn't watch a whole lot of the darrell brooks trial, but i did see that every time someone referred to him by name he objected to being referred to by his name. what a whackjob

      He's great, I ❤ the way this judge handled the defendant's nonsense; clearly, he's been given a fair amount of personal discretion/latitude to reprimand wayward litigants as he sees fit (within reason). Here's the thing though: he represents an exception, not the rule. Many judges would probably _prefer_ to respond to idiots like this, but are constrained from doing so by ethical rules, codes of conduct, local dictum, etc. Each courthouse within each jurisdiction is going to be a little different in what they allow; and so long as many jails continue to be overcrowded and underresourced, the courts attached to those facilities are going to be _highly motivated_ to move defendants along, avoid finding them in contempt of court, etc. It's less about a judge's attitude and more a matter of practicality, judicial economy, etc. 👩‍⚖️

      I don’t think it needs to be if the defendant doesn’t whisper. I’ve seen many defendants in front of Judge Boyd act meek and remorseful and then you find out what their charges are and you realize the meekness is an act.
