    For those who haven't kept up with naval news, it might interest you to know that Admiral Paparo, the one interviewed aboard Nimitz, is now the next nominee for Chief of Naval Operations. He was even nominated for the job instead of the current Vice Chief of Naval Operations, likely because of his experience commanding the Pacific Fleet. If you're concerned about how things might go down with China, then make sure you listen to what he says he needs, and push your Congressional reps to support it.

      To most nations/school yard alphas, understanding another's strength/military force is nearly everything. No nation wants a nuclear war, it is a no-win situation. When a nation thinks they can win a nuclear war, then the world is in trouble. As an aging and disappearing population, China is desperate to show force - this is just as much to combat their population decline as it is to show their younger generation they are still powerful even with a lower birthrate.

    Both my kids are in the US military, one in the Navy. One of the problems the military is facing is manpower. Military recruitment is at a multi decade low. I spoke with a recruiter about a year ago and he said most candidates either fail the ASVAB test and/or the medical screening due to obesity/drugs. On top of that the Army and Navy have failed miserably in their marketing campaigns. They followed the same path as Bud Light. Backlash is not as bad as BL, but it seems to have a sufficient impact to reduce recruitment even further. The sign-on bonus for Navy nuclear technicians for the upcoming cycle is $75,000. Two years ago it was $38,000. It shows you how desperate they are. We might have great military equipment, but without the people it means nothing. There is a people problem that needs to be fixed.

      Too much social engineering in the military system. Wokeism, gender inclusiveness , pronoun classes, it is ridiculous all this BS is pushing out good recruits and killing our military. Peace time grandstanding and news videos for public appeal are never going to inspire the public to flood the recruitment office as long as those damned social engineering programs are pushed thru along with promoting officers just because they claim they are something other than the sexual gender they were born as. Wake up people we need men and good men to fight a real war and todays military won't be able to get the job done. If we fight China, over half the US Navy will be destroyed in the first few hours of such a war, and if ground troops are sent to Taiwan they will die there most assuredly. This is not the USA of the 40's, 50's,60's,70's , or 80's to early 90's. Our culture and government are totally out of touch with honor, decency,morality, and faith in God. Without those things in the overall strength we can not and will not win any wars . This government blasphemes God and our president openly commits the unpardonable sin damning his soul to hell, God has given America over to a reprobate mind in our leadership and destruction is what they will bring to us!

    Depending on how you calculate frontline warship by size and armament, the US navy has fewer ships but 2-3 times the tonnage of the Chinese navy and 2.5 times the VLS cells used to contain ship launched missiles. The Chinese navy is in the middle of its modernization, not the end. This gap will shrink rapidly in the next decade rounding out in a peer force in 2045-2050.

    Hi 60Minutes, I am US born citizen, and a long time democrat? I did confure a service to enlisting into the armed forces. I recently posted a comment about March 2023, inregards Chinese threats to our US Navy? Their regime has increased enormously, however, in response the US's aiding other countries own civility? It's premiscous the US, through the adoption of Western Democracy, that China's military aggression has on US
    soil. Benign of the Pacific territory, China has against the US, especially, nuclear arms through China's industrial market? Indicating, the largest in the world, 80%? Technology in comparison, is non-negotiable combating a 20year gap? My reply is as always, the US Navy defense is US security!

    Imagine getting on board a warship in Virginia or California or Washington, sailing thousands of miles across the Pacific Ocean, away from America, right up to China's doorstep, and then seeing a Chinese fighter jet in the sky and thinking "Man, these Chinese are really aggressive."

    • @davidg3924

      The USN patrols the worlds oceans which ensures the ability of nations worldwide to trade peacefully. And the Admiral was describing the flight tactics of the Chinese fighters which are reckless and aggressive.

    • @GrantDWilliams82
      @GrantDWilliams82 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidg3924 No, that's not why the USN patrols the world's oceans. It patrols the world's oceans to make sure that any trade that isn't done using US Dollars is deterred or intercepted. Why? Because if all those Dollars that are used for trade weren't "needed" for trade anymore, they'd all come back into the US itself - and then gasoline would be $30 per gallon, and a Big Mac would cost $15, and then there'd be a Second American Revolution. There'd be guillotines erected on the National Mall in DC.
