I have exactly this issue, so I was taking the tailgate apart to replace the tailgate switch and thought I'd take a look. The speaker looks good, both cones are fine. When the speaker is swinging on the wires it sounds ok - but when I screw it in it doesn't sound good. I removed it, tapped around the tailgate and removed all the broken clip debris, I've also run a bead of adhesive around the inside of the tailgate cover where various panels come together so that should rule out anything else vibrating; so I might have to put something around the opening to cushion the speaker to tailgate surface.
@tamatomlinson made a huge difference- replaced all broken clips and used rubber washers to mount the sub. Also reglued all the plastic joints on the tailgate panel
Hi everyone, so i thought i had the same problem but after checking that disk seems to be attached perfectly but the sub is still making rattling noice
if the speaker is still rattling when removed and the part is still glued intact then the voice coils are damaged and speaker is no good. Buy the aftermarket one in link provided

Will be doing some troubleshooting on my sisters 2012 N/A 5.0. Her subwoofer rattles and we can’t have that
Out of stock. I either need to buy oem or go with a 700 watter
