Recently stumbled across your channel and been devouring the content and this is definitely an ETF I'll be looking at. Glancing at the fund fact I'd have been curious to ask what risks does rising interest rates apply on the fund ? The leverage would be more expensive to come by would it not ? Does this bring about added risk or do they reduce their leverage ? Also see the FAQ states that Distributions from HDIV and HYLD are not subject to withholding taxes, how is that possible ? Are the taxes withheld from the underlying US based ETFs and we cannot claim the tax credit even though that 15% is being trimmed from the underlying ETF ?

i strongly suggest to watch the Q&A videos with the Hamilton founder Rob. We have done several videos together talking about HYLD. and we do discuss the leverage. the reason it has no withholding tax is because its a Canadian listed product, so it handled within the fund

a concern about HYLD.... the main holding in the fund is QYLD, this fund has been on a downward trend ever since inception in 2014. This is due to the way it is set up, and to sustain the high divident payout. I know we arent supose to be concnered with growth and stock price of hyld, but will holding a big chunck of QYLD hinder the chances of HYLD ever reocvering to previous highs?

Then it would be more like an annuity. I like DIVO its share price up 14.46% for the last 3 years while maintaining a yield of 4.5 % and higher. It's not a very High yield but something like that. Makes me wonder if it would be possible for ETF to keep the price change flat but adjusts its dividend payouts to match the NAV?

After watching and studying for a while now, I've realized that total returns of indexes beat the total returns of covered call ETFs. Yes, they cushion the downside, but they limit your upside. Just sayin'. I knew there was a catch, and...I found it. But, yes, covered call ETFs do serve a purpose for someone that wants income now and does not need growth. I think SCHD is the best balance.

@@PassiveIncomeInvesting OK. I saw it and understand it. Is there a way to not give up upside, and match the returns of a benchmark, by not leveraging by 1.25 either? It's psychological. Because a 60% crash becomes a 75% crash with leveraging. Well, actually 66.5% with the yield. Is the worst case scenario being down 66.5% and then either Harvest no longer being able to borrow in a credit crisis, or borrowing rates skyrocket, or the government abolishing ETF leverage? Then you would never be able to recover.

    • @PassiveIncomeInvesting
      @PassiveIncomeInvesting  ปีที่แล้ว +4

You’re overthinking it buddy . Remember that losses are a fantasy unless you sell . If you don’t sell you will be fine forever . It depends on your personal objectives and goals .

Personally I will be lowering my weighting of HYLD, and hold the constituents in my RRSP to avoid withholding taxes, and increasing my weighting of HDIF - recommend others do the same. HDIF just added another ETF, HLIF for Canadian market exposure and it has a management fee of 0 with leverage! So you only pay for the underlying ETF’s. Compare this to HYLD with a total MER well above 2%, worse than RBC mutual funds lol. HDIF is HYLD’s biggest competitor, but I think it’s really going to start to shine over HYLD in the coming months. Time will tell, but I’ll still be holding both for the long term.

That leaves TXF, which we already have high exposure to tech with the global X funds, and the GLCC fund which to be honest I’m not that fond of with how gold has been preforming. I will still hold HYLD in my TFSA/Personal, just lowering the weighting with these changes!

@@L3G0FaN Some validity to your strategy. Essentially, HYLD loses the 15% withholding taxes on the US funds. HYLD has a good yield, but if you held QYLD, etc in your unregistered account, you get 'credit' for the 15% on your Cdn tax return (so the withholding tax is not completely lost, as it is in HYLD). And in your RRSP, there is no withholding (due to the tax treaty).

Nibbling on Hyld, today bought 1000 shs at ACB of 12.30 in non registered account due to preferential tax treatment. Seems to be consolidating around the area of value of 12.30. Now wait to see if it pulls back more and nibble a bit more. This makes an additional 140$ per month to income. We carry one folks. Nibble here, nibble there with hdiv, gdv, ens, and eit.un. S and P basic index funds are also pushing up value of all the companies in that index that pay no dividends and are worthless..
i would never hold S and P index fund itself so therefore want to avoid funds that invest highly in the U.S. blue chip that pay no dividends.

I like to be diversified when possible and I am looking for a handful of 5 -10% yield ETF's.
I dont think buying multiple Covered call ETF's or one like this HYLD that has multiple would be considered diversified for me.
What about a portfolio that has one covered call ETF like JEPI and maybe another like SVOL and maybe something else entirely like a leveraged non covered call ETF.
Maybe that would make for an interesting video. Sure beats everyone covering the same things over and over on TH-cam.
This video is an interesting take. Never occurred to me an ETF that has multiple ETF's inside it.
Still, its performance is sub par. if you compare it to DIVO the difference is clear.
    3 year price return: DIVO = 14.46% HYLD = neg 19.55%
    3 year total return: DIVO = 37.59% HYLD = 0%
    1 year yield: DIVO = 4.97% HYLD = 7.52%

qyld is doing particular poorly the last few months, likely due to very bad luck with the timings of their covered calls. Xyld like qyld got some unlucky call strike times. (edit: this was due to their "rebalancing"). TXF, has been underperforming the whole year along with the nasdaq. Of those on the list, I know HHL is holding strong and is outperforming. The people at Harvest are top notch, not sure about Hamilton yet. The thing that bothers me about hyld is the 2%+ mer which is really expensive for just holding other etfs.

@@PassiveIncomeInvesting I completely understand that you have to factor in total return but let’s not deny the fact that QYLD, RYLD, XYLD are long term depreciating assets solely due to the strict at the money “no deviation” call options the fund managers make. The fund trajectory shows a decline of price overtime not factoring in total return. QYLD will never be 22 dollar per share again. If you want income only and don’t care about your asset share prices decaying overtime, then you can’t get a better option than QYLD and the other global X funds. There are many far better options then these funds in my opinion that will still give you a decent 7-8% return and even some growth. JEPI is a perfect example. I have very very small positions in the global X funds that don’t exceed more than 5% of my total net worth.
