My father would have been 11 years old and at the game. My Grandma told me my father NEVER missed a Cubs-Cards game with his uncle. I was really missing my Grandma today (she passed away in December 2020) and saw this clip. 10 years later, almost to the day, I would be at Wrigley with my dad. It's the only memory I have of him (he was killed by a drunk driver just months later. I was 3). yes, I'm crying. But it's a good cry. Thank you SO much for posting. It feel like, if just for a little bit, Dad, Grandma and I were together.

Thanks for posting all these excellent games. I watched WGN ch9 in Chicago when I was a kid. I loved Jack Brickhouse the HOF announcer and Vince Lyoyd. Brickhouse would do pretty much all Chicago sports Sox, Cubs, Bears, Bulls and even wrestling on ch 9. He did Sox games from 1940 on and then Cubs games too. He was also known to do national broadcasts and called the 1954 Spectacular over the shoulder, back to the infield Catch by Willie Mays. He called everything from NBA, NFL, NHL, MLB, and Wrestling. He was an incredible announcer and called Earnie Banks 500 home run and several no hitters. He eventually retired and Harry Carry took his place coming from the White Sox believing people wouldn't pay for the new format of watching Sox games on pay tv. He was wrong as everyone now pays to watch Major League Baseball. I was fortunate to have gotten autographs of both Jack and Harry. Chicago has had it's share of HOF announcers with now the recent addition of Hawk Harrelson.Thx for these games!

Thank you for quite a gem...The kinescope of WGN's broadcast of Don Cardwell pitching a no-hitter for the Cubs against their arch-rivals, the St. Louis Cardinals. On May 15, 1960, no less. On that same date in 1981, Len Barker of the then-Cleveland Indians (Guardians) pitched a perfect game at Municipal Stadium in Cleveland against the Toronto Blue Jays. History, in a sense, repeated itself. Two pitching gems for the record books. Thanks for the video.

What a great find on TH-cam. Born in 1953 in STL my Cards memories begin with their 1960 season. I did not remember this no hitter by Don Cardwell against them but had recently read of it reading my 2000 Cardinals journal book detailing each season back to 1892 while waiting for our takeout orders during coronavirus. Don Cardwell is a good pitcher on my 1969 strat-o-matic Mets team. Thanks for placing on TH-cam.

This was 11 days after one of the Cubs' more notorious trades (out there with 1964's Brock-for-Broglio) where they sent Cubs' on-again, off-again manager Charlie Grimm to the radio booth and their once-and-future radio announcer, Lou Boudreau, was named Cubs' manager. Made no difference in the end - the Cubbies ended up 60-94 in 1960, then after reversing the trade P.K. Wrigley set up the even more infamous "College of Coaches."

Wagner later played well for the Angels and the Indians. I was born in 1953 and have always been a Cards fan here and 1960 is where my Cards memories start. This was 11 days after Boudreau - then announcing on radio - was named Cubbies manager while "Jolly Cholly" Grimm was sent up to the radio booth. It was more likely Grimm you would have heard calling the game if the radio aircheck of this game was available.

Players are pussies now, they take days off to ' rest' ,and they're 25 years old, they don't love the game they love money and self promotion. I hate today's game, I think baseball is dying a slow agonizing death

I wonder what those fans would have said if they were told that in order to watch Cubs games they would have to pay for cable or satellite tv and and even more for a premium channel? Those who are of the age that they were at this game as a child went on to dedicate themselves to a losing team for 56 years, going to many games, buying concessions, souvenirs, and apparel. The team finally becomes good when they are retired and living on a fixed income, unable to afford cable and premium channels, and the Cubs said “Screw you”. Signed: A new White Sox fan.

Wasn't this true with the Sox too at the time they won their most recent World Series, to a degree? Those who grew up with their teams "way back when" could be seen as all in the same boat you so aptly described.

@@wmbrown6 No, the White Sox have had at least some of their games on over the air tv for a long time and still do. I remember seeing them on over the air tv the year that they won, and I watched them through gritted teeth like the diehard Cubs fan that I was.
