Great compilation to one of all time best singers with a low voice. If no one has ever heard it, look up He Is The Dearest Friend. That is easily Georges constant low note lead and is a song he wrote. Every bass singer should listen to it to hear how to sing bass and sing it well with ZERO subharmonics. I had the privilege of meeting him during his latter years solo concerts with Ernie Haase. Such a truly nice and humble man. I will forever remember his reaction when I dropped a low note in front of him. Memory that will last a lifetime! Sometimes we do get to meet our heroes.
Many people never had the privilege of hearing George in person and missed a treasure. He was so personal and enthusiastic. His vocal prowess is represented masterfully in this video.
Among bass singers, as a soloist, he was simply as good as it gets. One could say he was the best. Not a contest, i know, but personally, i rank him right alongside the great Tennessee Ernie Ford. Don't ask me to choose between the two.
@@matthewdockray9745 I'll say that I'm not sure about him, but just know that also Avi can project a C2 off-mic quite well; anyway, his C2 is still not full of overtones like his D2
@@alebormio4842 But George has a vastly deeper and heavier voice. admittedly age might be on his side, but regardless, he's definitely more basso than avi
He was a singer 🎤 , cantabile , he wasn’t just a low notes hit man , he could sing and play in that register , that makes him unique , most basses just struggle to get lower and lower but nothing pleasant comes out in that low register , George hit a G1 as easy and quickly as a G2 and just a pleasant playful sound ,
So much discussion about who is lower, louder, etc., etc., but there hasn't been a warmer, more pleasant bass voice that could stand on it's on in a solo.

His voice is similar than Tim Riley Voice. Riley has a deeper and darker voice than Younce. Otherwise, Younce has a louder and ressonant voice than Riley.

The best bass singer ever. No he wasn’t the lowest ever but man, what a voice.
The greatest bass singer of all time of any genre! Thank you for doing such a nice tribute to George Younce - my hero!
One of without a doubt. One of my favorites.

He has multiple E1s on the album version of "Go right Out" and he even makes them sound easy😂
George Younce is the GOAT bass singer
I saw him often while alive. I’m now 62 almost 63. I have tried to imitate his voice all these year
one of the great gospel basses of all time. he had great tone and a wonderfully likable personality both on stage and off

Great choice of clips
The best bass!
Amazing video!!
Yesssss arguably the best ever gospel bass - a legitimate profundo too
Nice photo you found for the thumbnail also
nice Eb1 find at 36:30 btw
38 minute for low notes, so much, right?
He's great, yes. But I don't think he is a Profundo :-)
@@alebormio4842 he projects a Bb1 off mic. What else would he be?

I would love a video of his higher register.

i dont know that ive ever heard younce sing a B1 over a tenor belting a B4 without amplification like ive heard riley do
@@heliotropeskies5918they are both Powerful basses but Tim Riley sang a low loud projected B1 and lower with out mic or any amplifier
Riley was phenomenal but vibrato wasn't great
George may have hit a few low notes in his time, but he's still no match for J.D. Sumner.
