    I’m going to be 30 soon and I always felt like writing stories that’s been in my imagination since I was 14. I’m finally going to attempt to create it but I have no intention of others reading it. I just need to write it and get it out for myself

    As someone who is working on writing a novel, I always enjoy watching your videos because you delve into the storytelling part of writing, which make it useful not only for screenwriting but also for anyone who wants to convey their art through storytelling(video game, novels, etc...) so thank you.

    I've read a lot of books on screenwriting and they're helpful, but your approach of understanding stories as important contributions to being people goes beyond just writing and meeting benchmarks for a proper screenplay. I agree wholeheartedly with this approach.

    Me whilst listening to this: Ears-taking in Tyler Mowery's view on writing. Brain-generating ideas for my story. Eyes-deciding to leave a comment about how this guy should create a third channel about how to get subtly buff for a new podcast.
    I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced his phenomenon, but I do my best thinking whilst half listening to a video of someone talking intelligently about the subject I'm thinking about, especially if it conflicts with what I'm thinking.

    • @thewritersmindwithtyler
      @thewritersmindwithtyler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I definitely feel that way about things I will read or listen to. It gets you in the mindset to wander around and do some thinking on your own. Which is what I hope I can bring to people with this podcast!

    • @StoryGameArtist
      @StoryGameArtist 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well you’re off to a great start. I had a good chuckle when you said that you thought the theory of every person taking away something different after viewing a story, is wrong. Up till now I had always taken it to be a given, since every person’s unique experiences and mindset made would make it impossible to express something exact. Then you were just like “nope, that’s just a badly told story”.

    Call me judgmental, but my initial reaction, when I saw this guy, was: "Oh shit! A pretty boy with a manly voice who's got brains. I wonder what his flaw is? 'Cause obviously we all need to have those in order to be human. Otherwise, it's just called a Greek statue."
    Though, I put that comment in quotes for a reason, obviously joking.
    Edit (30 seconds later, upon proofreading my comment): Already found his flaw! He is alone. He is sitting there, alone in his room, unable to give his podcast an engaging DIALOGUE, i.e. between TWO persons who are equally interested in writing. THAT is the flaw with this podcast, I found so far.
    I appreciate everybody who takes an interest in writing! xD

    Independent thinking is powerful for a writer and for humans. To be objective and rationale. Not just blinding following the morality of the world but coming to your own philosophical beliefs based on objective analysis and your own code of conduct. I believe this makes a person more stronger in themselves because they are not slaves to the world and not deluded by false-reality They can see things as it. Very much appreciate you starting this podcast.

    10:18 I met way more often people who think the opposite. Arguing that if the theme was implemented by accident then the writer doesn't deserve any credit. Which is just as bad.

    I don’t know if you are still reading these comments but I was wondering about your opinion on something. I might be missing something, but I feel like your advice in this video is great if you want to write the next Great Gatsby or Macbeth or something they still read in schools but there are so many successful series that when I think of them I don’t think of any one underlying theme, I just think of the characters and their journey. Stories like Harry Potter or Star Wars strike me like this, just stories for the sake of entertainment, not for sending a message really. I know you cited Sci Fi as a usual culprit of just getting caught in concept but do you have thoughts on these sorts of stories? Would you say they do follow the advice in this episode in smaller ways that I’m just not noticing or are these tips supposed to be more specific to classic-literature-esque stories?

    It's an interesting concept for a podcast. It is the sort of thing that used be called "salon" discussions. Intellectuals used to discuss the conflicts-of-life philosophies for hours in the living room. We don't see these discussions anymore these days, and worse we don't see movies that trigger these discussions anymore.
    As for interpretations of movies, I believe there should be a maximum of four (pro-pro, pro-con, con-pro, con-con) and the writer should aim to focus his story in such a way that there would be no more than four possible interpretations.
