I wonder why Isobel didn't immediately correct Kevin (and his mother) every time they referred to her as his wife. As soon as they divorced, she was no longer his wife and had no obligations to him. Understandable that Isobel had to explain the divorce to the mom to understand why, even as an ex-wife, she didn't want to have anything to do with Kevin. People need to have photographs of their valuables/heirlooms for situations like this (and insure them if you're able). When someone steals them to pawn, file a police report and provide the images. Police will go to the pawn shops in search of stolen property and pawn shops are supposed to keep records of what they've sold (not all do but the good ones will).

Finally, a MIL who can see reason.
In these types of stories, it's always 1 of 3 things that cause the marriage to break down. A gambling addiction, infidelity, or horrible in-laws.
Just once I want to see a story where the conflict is completely ridiculous and unexpected.
Like, maybe the husband quits his job to become a full-time Big Foot hunter. Or the wife's addiction to collecting souvenir key chains is so out of control they're going to lose the house.
Also an actor / singer who goes on tour and tries to treat the spouse like they’re part of the entourage bc the fame went to their head and they think their beloved loyal spouse doesn’t have the ‘right look’ for them anymore…only to find out they blew their pay check on a celebrity lifestyle and without their spouse helping manage the money they went broke

As much as I love listening to these stories, I keep wondering why these people aren't blocked before these people have to go through all the stress.
Or for those who commit crimes ie: selling stolen property at a pawn shop of all places aren't promptly arrested, charged, tried, convicted and put in prison or for the more egregious acts, dealt with more discreetly and permanently
I'm glad Kevin's mom understood who was actually in the wrong & did what she could to fix things especially return the stolen items. I'm going to imagine OP did as she told Kevin(sue him if he didn't leave her alone like mentioned in the deal) but was generous enough to fix the price seeing as his mom returned the items & he now has debt for the loan used to get them back.
Kevin is seriously an idiot for all of this especially not understanding shit(when at least TWO people explained it to him), thinking he could get away with contacting his ex despite the deal & the least of his offenses THINKING the nurses like him. This isn't even going into the other offenses like wasting his wife's savings, stealing from her family to waste more on his gambling addiction & of course HITTING on the TEENAGER. There's also the fact he was disturbing the peace & being a drunken annoyance due to throwing a pity party for his wife's reasonable divorce. He's lucky drunk driving wasn't involved from the sounds of it just being drunk enough to cause a scene & fall off what I'm guessing with the stairs to a certain level apartment.
With luck the fact that OP points out him having a job is a step up from how he use to be will lead to getting his shit together while paying his debt off. I mean he's too busy working to attempt to get drunk again for another pity party & he also seems to be too busy to go gambling too. With luck he gets his shit together when this is over & doesn't hit on minors again.
From my understanding of the story he was out on his fifth story apartment’s balcony when he fell off. In some places that could get you evicted from your apartment as the owner of the apartment building has to pay a higher insurance premium because of this fiasco.

He sold stolen property so with a police report Isabel could reclaim the stolen property from the pawn shop without buying it back. If he was listed on the savings account as an authorized user then it will be almost impossible to claim he stole the $200,000. She will have to sue him to recoup the losses of the money by showing proof that only she contributed money into that account and how much she put in.
Why was he admitted to the hospital for two weeks for a broken arm and leg? Even with surgery to fix a compound femur fracture he wouldn't still be in the hospital two weeks later. He's clearly coherent enough to whine, cry, and victim blame via text.

Kevin's behavior is completely typical of all addicts. Not understanding that they are doing anything wrong, desperately reaching out to their former sources, stealing valuables without a second thought, completely dismissing all words that suggest any warnings or wrongdoing, playing complete victim if anything goes in a way they don't like, trying to resort to more desperate actions to gain sympathy. He desperately needs Gamblers Anonymous. Of course, a major part of that program is that he would have to pay back every penny of what he borrowed or stole to feed his habit. Probably Isabel should still bring him to court for that. He actually should be thankful he got off easy only having to pay back the value of the heirlooms and not the lost savings.
