thing about Haewon is, while she is a godlike idol, plays massive roles in my two favorite KPOP songs of all time (DICE, Survivor), and has unquestioned respect from her members, she is not a great leader. you don't feel love between her and her members and juniors like you do with other great leaders (eg TWICE Jihyo, ITZY Yeji, IZONE Eunbi). there's no skinship, no maternal vibe, no oxytocin. literally everyone in NMIXX except maybe Bae walks on eggshells around her, like you would around a legendary member of your company that you now happen to work closely with. the fact that she's crackheaded and silly at times does help make her more approachable, because without that she would just be this perfect ice queen being with no flaws. but despite the silliness, she is also prideful, has a relatively quick temper, and is a legend among idols. the members almost NEVER tease her, as if they are scared to on some level. it's actually pretty close to how BLACKPINK members act with Jennie (though not as bad). if you speak Korean and pay attention to NMIXX's interactions, this dynamic is apparent. even this vlive is case in point - a matnae maknae relationship should feel almost like a mom with her kid. you should be able to tangibly feel the affection/love between them. i have never once, in dozens of hours of watching NMIXX content, felt this dynamic a single time from Haewon to Kyujin. rather, Haewon treats her more like a peer or friend. i almost feel like Haewon doesn't truly feel the age gap between herself and the members - she behaves as if they're all the same age and equals. but the problem is that they're not equals. she's not only the unnie but the leader, and thus her every criticism, joke, and comment carries more weight and the capacity for harm than the others' do. and i don't think she has internalized this on a visceral level yet. in other words, she's still a child at heart - precocious and blessed with immense talent, but not a leader. now i'll sit back for the ifans who don't speak Korean and get all their understanding off subtitles that are wrong half the time to come screeching about how i insulted their bias. put it this way - think about how hard it is to get to really know someone even when they speak your native language, then consider that with idols you don't even know wtf they're saying. then again, much of what i said above can be gleaned from body language and intonation if you pay close enough attention
