You can also activate the elevator by simply aiming your tarnished to the middle but sometimes it don't seem to activate it, The raptured crystal tear method is just a little more reliable due to your character covering some extra space after the explosion animation (and also die with style) 💥.
One thing I think is interesting, is that the quantum field is often described as water, like an immersive fluid energy field that all of existence is immersed in; which is interesting because the bible itself describes God "moving over the waters" before anything was created. It's impossible for water to exist if nothing else existed yet, unless of course that comparison of the quantum field to water is relevant on a cosmic level
i remember being a little disapointed when, in shadow keep, I saw that the tree spirit was just walking under false water. I thought there would be a gimmick fight with a creature underwater we can only hit when it emerge to bite us. For the only area where we are very close to water, the effect could have been a little more natural.
I was curious on my first time playing when i heard it emerge, I was checking to see if the spirit would have swimming animation but i realized it was there for dramatic purposes upon a closer inspection. I bet it was just annoying giving it a new water fight move set since its default one would be terrible to fight on such little footing we had there.
Same here! When I first got there, I saw messages saying "Beware Monstrosity" then saw something moving down there. I thought it was some kind of frog monster. I was genuinely scared, underwater stuff freaks me out, so I fearfully ran back to safe land. I kept expecting it to attack me on the logs or something, just pop up from below, a set of jaws and snap! Terrifying! And then I found it was just another Tree Spirit. And not even the only one in the area. Pretty underwhelming honestly.
@@ApetureTestSubject Yeah I was a great fun and spooky moment until I realised it was a Tree Spirit and then I could only think "not this fucking shit again". The tree spirit's unique fleeing animation was actually kind of genius. Its like they forgot to put a spawn filter on the water version, but then realized how cool it would be to trick players into thinking a monstrous fish was around. But what if you've got spells, arrows, etc? Okay, so since they're not programing a full new layered monster, it runs away.
It does give the illusion of it diving deep underwater for sure, It also seems unkillable cause i had the one shot script running when i hit him but it didn't die until later after draining the keep.

Sekiro handles water almost the same way, it just triggers Swimming Mode instead of killing you. If you manage to get out of bounds while underwater and skip passing through the surface trigger, you can swim in air anywhere you want :)
@@SolidLoachknowing FromSoft (and no offense, I love FromSoft) it probably would’ve been really janky and hard to control. Cause as someone who’s put hundreds of hours in Sekiro, the swimming still feels somewhat janky to me and I don’t think it would’ve fit ER combat.

I never even thought about that lol. At this point though I kinda like the goofy deaths like that in Fromsoft games, just the idea that these worlds are full of super powerful godlike beings and yet no one can swim.
There are multiple places where the Tree Spirits have preset spawns. If you look down into the water when you jump across the scaffolding, you'll see one surface and swim, and you can trigger that diving animation if you hit it with a ranged attack (Haima's is easiest.)
you can hit the monster before draining the water. I hit it with a Discus of Light. Funny they gave it that animation for shying away when it does so, since one can't see it with the water present

Another interesting view into the out of bounds! Speaking of, could you take a look at the Liurnia lod model that appears from inside Stormveil? I noticed the bridge appears intact and the town below doesn't seem to have sunk, and I've always been curious what it looks like if you could get close. Thanks Kami By the way, if you just walk into the elevator shaft you will generally fall pretty close to the elevator button, if you want a slightly easier way than exploding mid weapon art! Considering the explosive crystal tear is used for the leyendell elevator skip, it would probably work to use it and explode at the kill boundary, same as leyendell. Still working on trying that myself.
That's interesting it could be the low res overworld model that making it look that way, I'll take a look at it later. As for the elevator it weirdly didn't detect my body when i tried just jumping to the middle, but when i tried with the crystal tear it did the trick so i went with it, would be nice to see if someone manages to slip through the killbox there.
@Kami.Sensei noticed me! :D Thank you, I can't wait to see what you find! Don't know if this is within the scope of your vidoes, but lately I've been kinda fascinated by the destructible environment in Elden Ring, in part because of Zullies "How to break walls just by standing up" video about object damage. It seems that every time I play Elden Ring I find different object that can be broken by enemies. So I'd be curious to see if it's possible to just have all breakable object be destroyed by default, or give the player a max Object damage AoE as large as possible.
That's a pretty cool idea, I think if i do more research on this i could make a video about it, I've been somewhat intrigued about this matter whenever I saw a rune bear or a dragon break objects around them that the player can't.

I'd guess the water layer has a hitbox that causes death when the player interact. So the elevator method would only work if we have something to disable/prevent that interaction...Other than that, the best bet is to try and sneak in on a place where you wouldnt make direct contact with the water hitbox layer
The tree monster disappears like that so that players can't kill him before draining the water. You can throw a knife or cast a spell at him through the water to make him leave temporarily
Upon seeing the thumbnail, I thought this video was going to be about some weird rendering trick with the reflections or something lol. Like how in Silent Hill (and a lot of games apparently) mirrors worked by just making a flipped duplicate of the entire room the mirror was in, including the player character, and having the "mirror" just function as a window into that room 😆 but this is interesting too!
about the tree spirit, when he appears under the water you can actually lock on to him. and at some positions, you can even hit him with ranged attack. I hit him with a knight lightning spear, and from above the water you can see a bit of that animation of him diving away after getting hit. so maybe, maybe with some elaborate buff and strategy, we might be able to one-shot him even before we drain the water.
When i hit him in the video i had one shot script on (that's why he dies in one hit later in the vid), I went to check his params after that and apparently it is invincible during that animation and can't be killed.
So, the only thing keeping the water from draining out other than the main floodgates is either the little doors that open outwards leading to the elevator to the Scadutree Avatar, or, more likely, the column of the elevator that leads down to the ravine? I bet that's not water-tight... It'd have been a nice touch to include some signs of water carving out the elevator shaft and running out into the ravine.
You could jump to the elevator from the 1st grace. If you hit the button it'll go up some legasus action - and you below the surface. You die with delay, thats the key If you perform frame perfect legasus glitch, you'll be safe You need to go all the way to the elevator, descend and quit the game. You'll see fallcam, but you wont die if all done frameperfect.
I'm still trying to make it work, I'm also sure the fall cam resets if you reload the map in the grace under water. I might do a short about it if i managed to pull it off, if someone else does first that would be nice.

I directly believe that from didn't want to take the time to make credible water. When was the last time from made water that wasn't swamps or part of a simple scenario? They have no experience in making realistic water simply.
A couple interesting things it might be worth checking out. If you're on the stairs before the final boss, you can look over towards the Jagged Peak and very briefly see some flying dragons like the ones that surround Farum Azula, but they're being pulled through the sky a bit oddly. Given that this area shows dragons around it like Farum Azula does, that might've been purposeful and only partially scrapped so they only still render at weird locations. Some other features like altar where you jump down to fight the Ancient Dragon-Man might be neat to see up close since you can't reach them directly.
Thank you for pointing that out, I didn't notice that about the jagged peak. I've had a theory about it being related to Farum Azula in some way after exploring Bayle's Arena so this could be interesting to check out.
@@Kami.Sensei Sure thing! With the permanent storm around it, it reminded me of Stormvale in 1.0 when the draconic stuff was still prominent with the Exile/Banished Knights and Farum Azula being the Storm Aerie still as a land of the dragons. The matching dragons on the map for both of them had me keeping an eye out, and that particular odd detail has had me wondering about it some more.
@@PierceArner I've ridden straight over from the final boss door on Torrent (with CE of course) checking something else and they definitely aren't visible close up. Seems to be 2000+ LOD range but that's just a guess based off Furnace Golem ranges and I don't want to dig through parameters.

It’s interesting that on some random occasions the tree spirit performs attack animations if he is underwater. I’ve encountered it myself in game. When I’ve beat the first fire knight on the rooftop and went onwards to jump on that tiny bridge which leads to the roof with lots of holes, this guy randomly jumped up near the roof just like during his grab attack animation. I don’t know if it’s intended or just his ai glitching because of him encountering some breakable rubble on the way (as far as I know, mobs are scripted to attack breakable stuff if it’s on their way. It was definitely like that in demon’s souls remake). Do you have any data or info regarding that topic?
Another viewer pointed out the subject of breakable objects in Elden Ring that are effected by other mobs or bosses, I'm planning to research that topic and make a video about it cause there are some interesting interactions like the one you mentioned. Also that Tree spirit that tried attacking you is the 2nd one under the church not the one shown in the video, It could be that it still had its normal Ai detection and tried attacking you like it does in the overworld.
No the killbox is just a thin 2d layer going across the water not a full 3d space, so the threat is gone when you're down there even after re-enabling it.
You just appear at the grace completely normal like they were. Unless you're asking if the killbox works if you ascend through it vs descend, I actually have no idea about that one.
The killbox only takes effect when the character passes through it, Warping just teleports you next to the grace without interacting with the killbox so nothing happens to you there even when you turn it back on.
It feels a bit too similar to use the exact same background music as Zullie but it's not a big deal, lol. Nice video with good editing and presentation!
Yeah so water in multiple engines is usually handled the same. its just a flat singlesided plane/mesh set to transparent with a simple water normal texture panned at a certain speed + some tessellation based from normalmap height. Objects become more blue and harder to see based on the depth level in the engine taken from the players camera. You cant see it from under it because the camera passes the front side of the mesh that the texture is displaying on. You could have looked this up before making this video :P
That works in reallife, too. If you remove the killbox of water you just can walk around in it. (dude...these funny music is so inappropriate in a souls game xDD i love it)
Not much they can do different besides a music change - Which imo is advisable with how Nintendo randomly gets with their IP. There's more than enough hidden details and niches to go around.
I’m sick of these channels that don’t do voice over and just show text. Stop. Someone needs to come along and copy these videos and add actual voice over

@@Kami.Sensei Wow. That actually makes sense!
What happens if you jump in the ocean with the hit box disabled? Any creepy things set aside and never put in the game?
Sailor Moon pose?
I'm assuming activating the elevator and then quitting out has been tried?
If you re-enable the kill zone and then go to the Site of Grace under the water, do you die instantly?
No the killbox is just a thin 2d layer going across the water not a full 3d space, so the threat is gone when you're down there even after re-enabling it.
What would have happened if you warped to the underwater grace with the killbox still active?
You just appear at the grace completely normal like they were. Unless you're asking if the killbox works if you ascend through it vs descend, I actually have no idea about that one.
The killbox only takes effect when the character passes through it, Warping just teleports you next to the grace without interacting with the killbox so nothing happens to you there even when you turn it back on.
@@Kami.Sensei oh ok thanks for the answer 🥰
"Spicific"
Lmfao wtf
>Minor Spelling Mistake
>Dies...
@Kami.Sensei I just read it as a slur towards Mexicans lol that was the "wtf" part lmfao
That mask is a mod right ?
It feels a bit too similar to use the exact same background music as Zullie but it's not a big deal, lol. Nice video with good editing and presentation!
Are you Zulis Brother or Cousin or something?
Yeah so water in multiple engines is usually handled the same. its just a flat singlesided plane/mesh set to transparent with a simple water normal texture panned at a certain speed + some tessellation based from normalmap height. Objects become more blue and harder to see based on the depth level in the engine taken from the players camera. You cant see it from under it because the camera passes the front side of the mesh that the texture is displaying on.
You could have looked this up before making this video :P
why waste resources making realistic water in a game where you cant swim
That works in reallife, too. If you remove the killbox of water you just can walk around in it. (dude...these funny music is so inappropriate in a souls game xDD i love it)
From Software is chocked full of brilliant designers and amazing artists....not clever coders.
...plus the engine is still questionable
Zullie the Witch 🤔
I mean calling it an illusion is stupid imo, cause everything in games is, but still a very interesting video!
Love the videos but I feel like it's copying Zullie the Witch too much. Originality could be some great spice to the formula.
Not much they can do different besides a music change - Which imo is advisable with how Nintendo randomly gets with their IP. There's more than enough hidden details and niches to go around.
@@Heowolf Plenty they could do, there's entire formats on these types of videos.
They could have had some thallasophobia element but chose to reuse another boss
Classic lazy game development
Not reading allat
I’m sick of these channels that don’t do voice over and just show text. Stop.
Someone needs to come along and copy these videos and add actual voice over
they probably have bad voices. i appreciate they still put out the videos.
reading is pretty hard huh?
Its bs that you have that helmet
