I love to surprise myself with a nice result. Most of the time as I'm painting, I think it's going really bad but then all of a sudden I can start to see progress.
this is gonna sound weird but what i really like about painting portraits is painting noses. i like that best. the nose is everything. I mean if you can get it right you can nail so much of the likeness and character in the face right there, plus you can measure everything else by it in every direction, plus it has so many nice shapes and gradients. and it has saturated areas and specular highlights. its a painters dream. I like ears for the same reason, but the nose....when a person has a good nose they are usually REALLY attractive, so painting an attractive nose is key for me. Everybody else always talks about the eyes but even if you get those perfect, if you then get the nose wrong you got a major problem lol So I say it's all about the schnozz

Edit: I hate painting parts where it comes in pairs especially those that are far apart like the eyes, eyebrows, and ears to name a few. Just my thoughts.
This is a great help. The best thing I like about painting portraits is that you get to see a lot of emotions in a drawing with the help of brush strokes.
My joy of painting portraits, though I'm still far from good, is achieving a good result (by my standards) when it looked like I messed up. And detail and realism really brings a lot of satisfaction. Great hack David.
Could you tell me in what measures and resolution you illustrate your work so that the brushes do not have LAG at the time of the stroke? i think i am failing on this when creating my canvas
Hey César, choosing a canvas size depends on what you intend to do with the painting. If you paint for print you need to use large canvases with 300 dpi, it might be a good idea to invest in a computer with more RAM. If you don't intend to print your paintings, use a smaller canvas. Give 2000x3000 px a try with 250dpi, see if it still lags :) Feel free to send us an email to support@paintable.cc if you need more help with this 🙂

Hi there, you can get to this result with multiple different brushes, try to not focus on the tools so much, but rather on the main principles of drawing realistic eyebrows, drawing, smudging, highlighting. Hope this helps, Happy Painting :)
