I'm still loving my Mini. I put it in my front pocket to carry it around the house. It helps that I wear sweatpants all day :). I'm not sure if I would trade it for an Air. If I want to watch a show on a bigger screen, I move to my TV.

How often would you really take an iPad mini with you to a restaurant even if you have a decent size phone with you? And if you’re at a place like a café that has a proper table, you would want a slightly larger canvas to work from. I used to like that a lot, but it started to be left in favor off a phone for pick up and go use. The larger iPad Air screen is much more conducive to real work and a semi laptop replacement on the go.

For $100 more it's probably worth it to a lot of people. But then there's the personal preference with the size, which is why I went with the Mini 6. For what I use my iPad for, the larger size would be harder to maintain. 8 inches is still larger than any phone too, so the smaller size isn't a handicapp in most cases.

In some cases, like mine, they both along with the 12.9” Pro can compliment each other. My Mini 6 sits on small table near from front door along with the keys, sunglasses, wallet and Airpods. It is my out of the house, mobile device. Aging eyes prefer the larger screen real estate over the iPhone. My Air 5 stays glued to my hands around the house doing everything from smart home control, text and email, content consuming, browser content, FaceTime, Zoom and Teams calls and every other general use. The 2018 12.9” Pro is also about screen real estate for editing video using LumiFusion, more immersive consuming with its better sounding four speakers. I think a person with far better eye sight may do just fine with just an iPhone and an Air 5.

I have both. I would say that 80% of the population will use their iPad for reading or watching Netflix and TH-cam.
I would say that most of the time I reach for my mini. As for a reading device, such as replacing your Kindle, mini all the way due to a higher PPI 326, versus 246 on the air. It may not make much of a big difference when general web browsing or watching movies but when it comes to focusing and reading text on a book, it’s a night and day difference. Mini all the way.

I appreciate these comparisons videos but this guy keeps saying that the iPad Air display is better than the iPad Mini because of its higher resolution but even though it has technically a higher resolution, it means nothing because its screen is bigger. As a matter of fact, the iPad mini has better pixel density, significantly better. 326ppi on the iPad mini vs 264ppi on the iPad Air.

I personally went for the Air 5, as I wanted a hybrid device that could do tablet things and laptop things well, and I plan to try out a 6.7 inch phone when I upgrade from my XR in a few months so there’s not really that much advantage to having a tablet that’s only 1.7 inches bigger.
However, the Mini DOES have a few genuine use cases, in my eyes.
    - companion to iPhone Mini - if you like small devices, then the smallest one-handed device and smallest two-handed device would pair well
    - companion to Macbook - Macbooks are a whole lot less portable than the iPad 11 inch models are, having a tablet that fits in your pocket makes a lot more sense than a big tablet alongside your big laptop that probably spend 90% of their time in the same place
    - iPhone replacement - if you’re not really invested in the Apple ecosystem, the cellular model with Google Voice installed is an all-in-one device that can do phone things and tablet things both really well, and it fits in your pocket.

I personally had this same dilemma some days ago (509€ Mini 6 vs 619€ Air 5, both slightly discounted) and finally decided for the Air due to futureproofing, which is really important for me when buying technology. The M1 + 8 gb of Ram can allow this tablet to have a considerable longevity, and also have the versatility of being able to use it as a laptop with the Magic Keyboard and similar alternatives. Nevertheless, the Mini 6 is plenty powerful (A15 + 4gb of ram), but maybe more suited to a lighter tablet experience, but can have less longevity or even being excluded of some "pro" features in the future of iPadOS. In any case is a matter of considering your potential use and if you need to spend a lot for it. For 90% of people even the basic iPad is enough for their workflows.

    • @LoneSkag

I was really interested on getting an iPad Mini as 10-11 inch ones are quite big for the uses I pretend. • @JCADX
      @JCADX 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@dankof It should depend on your potential use. It´s true the Air M1 is more powerful and maybe more futureproof, but if its big for your potential use, the Mini is by no means a bad device. As a reference, my old iPad 2018 (A10, 2gb ram) can still perform really well, and the Mini has A15 and 4gb ram. You would be buying a great tablet with some limitations (no Stage Manager, for example, or reduced screen real estate for note taking), but if this does not matter to you, its no problem.

i would probably go for the air because of the bigger screen. it makes it easier to do stuff when i am having migraine issues and cannot wear my glasses without worsening my pain. i think my mom said on a scale from not impaired to very impaired, my vision is moderate since it can be “solved” with glasses, but i would also be required to wear my glasses to drive kinda nearsightedness. my astigmatism doesn’t make it sny easier while trying to read. it can in fact make it much harder, since i am audhd, my astigmatism while reading can trigger vivid imaginations and napping. i would just get a bigger mini backpack, at least 11” inches (to have wiggle room to actually fit an ipad that, length-wise, is 9.75 inches long. there is a bat backpack and a regular backpack with many pockets on my amazon wishlist that would fit such an ipad.)
i would have to give up portability or having a lighter, smaller frame, which can minimize space, for the sake of a bigger, more accessible ipad.

  • @movdqa

I'm considering these two right now and I'm coming from an iPad mini 5. I also have an iPad 2 that I use. I would like USB-C as I'm trying to migrate as much as I can to USB-C. My use cases are reading books (mini), watching videos on the treadmill (mini), watching videos on a spin bike (iPad), trading stocks at the gym (mini). I also carry around a medical kit with me and it has a pocket which holds the mini so that you can't see it. I can put an iPad in there in portrait orientation but it sticks out over the top and makes it a bit awkward for carrying. It's possible that I just stick with the iPad mini 5 though my I suspect that my wife would like it. If I want a larger screen, I just use my M1 Pro MacBook Pro 16 - there are a lot of times where I prefer a real keyboard when I want to use a larger screen too. So, for me, the iPad mini 6 probably makes a lot more sense. I do not like the idea of an iPad used in a laptop mode because the MacBook Pro is just so good. The other thing is that I have an iPhone 13 mini so it is sometimes nicer to grab an iPad mini for a larger screen. But the MacBook Pro when I want a much larger screen. So your other devices might determine your preferences. Someone with an iPhone 13 Pro Max might prefer an iPad because there's less difference in size between their phone and tablet. The iPad mini 6 is selling at $399 on Amazon - a huge discount.

Thank you for posting content about the iPads. They helped me a lot in making my purchasing decision.
My last iPad was the Mini Retina (2nd Gen) way back in 2014. Thanks to your reviiews, I brought myself back to Apple's ecosystem and bought the 9th Gen iPad.
I was planning to get the Mini 6 for the portability. Then the Air 5 was introduced.
I chose the Air 5 for the long haul. I've already gotten used to the multitasking on a larger display. I'm Getting a smoother experience with the M1 chip plus the 8GB RAM. And, the Air 5 is lighter than the 9th Gen.
I'm using my iPad mostly for content consumption and gaming. Getting the 11" iPad Pro is already way above my budget.
I have the best experience so far. The only con I have with the Air 5 is that it doesn't matches the 9th Gen's battery longevity. That is given considering the processors they have.

I have tried, more than once, to "learn" Apple's ecosystem. I just couldn't get on board the IOS fanboy/girl train though. My kid sister is all in with Apple though, so I have made her a happy camper by sending her the new toys I rejected. I'm an old dog and very used to Android so I guess I will stay within my comfort zone. Also, I am not a gamer. I don't even have solitaire on any of my devices! The only thing that makes me wish I could get into Apple is the Mini because I need to have something small enough to use for notes and medical information. Sadly, I have two people in my life who have several health issues and medications are always changing. The Mini would be the ideal size for me to use for keeping up with all of their ever changing medical information. :(

I just don't see the iPad mini's size justifiable enough for most people; the size difference is not great enough IMO from your phone to justify carrying around another device. Plus with a full size tablet, you can also connect a keyboard case. I upgraded from the s6 lite to the s8+ after watching your videos, and I love it

It’s basically a thousand times better than any “reading tablet” as it essentially is a mini computer. So I think it blows a kindle or something out of the water.
I think compared to other iPads it’s disappointing and should be cheaper. But I do think for reading books or using as a basic task manager the size is perfect.

Thank you for making this comparison. I'm probably one of those people who are considering between the two options.
You're right, I should be thinking about what I'm gonna use it for.
I already have an 8 inch Android tablet that I can carry around and do small tasks on. (Even though it's super small already, still a pain if I want to bring it outside. Phone is still better for outdoor usage) 😂
So I guess I should pick the big one, aka iPad air if I wish to do serious tasks on it.

I live in Canada which makes everything more expensive
The iPad Air has $749 for 64GB and $949 for 256GB without tax
The iPad Mini has $649 for 64GB and $849 for 256 GB without tax as well
The iPad has $429 for 64GB and $629 for 256GB without tax-_-
But the huge difference for me ( even though the difference is the same ) is that the iPad Pro is literally 1000 dollars ( $999 to be precise ) for 128GB and $2379 for 2TB for the 11inch and $1399 for the 128GB and $2779 for 2TB for the 12.9 inches.
