I been buying Baerskin several years now. I work on the river. The 3.0 holds up well most of the winter months here in Pittsburgh. I switch to our float coats when the temps drop to single digits. When it really rains I slide a rain jacket over the 3.0. It doesn’t breathe like some other brands out there. I choose Baerskin because it’s rugged tough and I don’t mind getting it dirty just so long it keeps me warm and dry.
Thank you for a very informative little video !!!! I was looking for a person to show what it's like in the rain !!! I think the combo is the way to go !!!
If you leave it loose, yeah the wind will blow it off your head. However, it’s super easy to tighten it down when outside and the loosen it up again when you don’t need the hood anymore. It will reduce peripheral vision a little bit, but not bad.
Thanks for your great detailed video in the beautiful woods! I am looking for the best quality of the waterproof rain JKT, and it should holding up really long time. But some folks are saying here some parts are missing? Really? I like Patagonia, but I think this is the best price point (with 60% off discount) for the waterproofing JKT. It also makes me wonder if the next version will coming out sooner…? I thought you can attach it to the 4.0 is a nice thing, but I don’t know if I need another fleece hoodie or not.
I think this is excellent bang for your buck, I’ve been using the jacket a lot and love it. It’s already heavily discounted, but there should be a “60% off” button in the right side of the screen when you go to their website. In terms of people saying some parts are missing, I haven’t seen that myself, but you could always return it if there is something missing.
This is the first time to know about the brand. Your review is very helpful. Good price. And it looks simple but rugged enough. The satisfaction tells you the quality.
I am very interested in this combo setup. My biggest fear is sweating. Every rain jacket I have tried has cooked me out and made me as wet from sweating as much as the rain. I work outside a lot. So I am looking from something better then Walmart or the local farm store.
Depending on how strenuous the work you are doing is, you may still have a sweating issue with the rain jacket. It doesn’t have pit vents, but I will say that I haven’t had any issues with heat/sweat just walking around and hiking. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
@@OhioBladeandCutlery we definitely needed it here in Southern Ohio today it was cool out !! I'm east of Cincinnati outside Batavia heading out 32 like heading out Great Serpent Mound
I have the 3.0 and your sizing is opposite my experience. I normally wear 2XL shirts, got the 2XL hoodie and it is WAY too small. I just ordered the 3XL 4.0 hoodie so we'll see if they stopped sizing these things off of tiny european men.
I'm 5' 11 1/2" and 175 lbs, you mentioned that you ordered size L hoodie and could probably fit into size M, do you mind sharing your height/weight? I usually wear M for shirts/jackets and L for hoodies, but when I look at the size chart, I'm definitely no more than a size M, but debating about size S (which blows my mind because I don't wear size S for any brands).
I saw another unbiased review, that unfortunately, they really don't breathe all that great, like for hiking and stuff like my Columbia does, but I bought one anyway, due to where I live
I wore it around all weekend when it was raining from the remnants of Helene, and I wasn’t sweating like I was wearing a plastic bag. However, I was just strolling around, and not doing anything strenuous.
@@mikelittle5250 Which Columbia Rain jacket do you have? I been struggling with the same issue and have not found anything for strenuous hiking with my camera gear that does not make me sweat in the inside.

just the raincoat shell...and they made some minor mods on the 3.0...2 less pockets, now that you have the rain-shell...and losing the duckbill head cover, from what I've read
Hey @johnnyc8065, thanks for your comment. Here are the main differences between the 3.0 and the 4.0: - We have changed the design of the hood to match the design of the rain jacket - Unlike the 3.0 hoodie, the 4.0 hoodie does not have a 2-way zipper to match the rain jacket design as well - With the 4.0 we used 340gsm of double-sidedBÆRSkin™ MicroFleece while with 3.0 we only used 330 GSM - Only the BÆRSkin Hoodie 4.0 can zip into the Heavy-Storm Rain Jacket, due to its new chunky zip. Older models of the BÆRSkIn Hoodie cannot zip into the Heavy-Storm Rain Jacket. I hope this helps. Should you have further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get back to us. Cheers, Stephanie
I did order one. It's been a week, but I'm a gen X'er, and not freaking out about the wait. I think it looks durable for Upstate NY weather, and I walk literally everywhere everyday. My old Columbia Rain jacket also had the zip in fleece option, and that's about 35 years old, but it never kept out the rain very well. I really don't need all the pockets in the world, but I DO hope the hand pockets are deep. I CANNOT stand it when you buy a coat, and they barely give you room to fit your hands in your pockets in the cold, and forget it if you have gloves on as well. I think I'll be happy with this purchase, but it's a marketing joke...these things are ALWAYS 60% off. I'll bookmark this page to let you know when it comes in!!! Happy trails
I’m a Gen X’er too (70’s baby). I’m surprised that it takes so long for it to ship, but hopefully you’ll get it soon. The waist pockets are generous, so I think you’ll be just fine there. When you get it and try it out, let me know what you think. Thanks for the comments and I appreciate you watching the video!
I'm amazed that I could still see your face while you were demonstrating the hood of the storm jacket, without wearing a hat with some type of bill on the front. Mine comes down to my nose almost. 🤣 A ball cap is definitely a necessary requirement for me. 👍
No self respecting rain jacket that will actually be used in the outdoors vs the city streets is without pit zips. And what's with the velcro patch holder? Extra weight and clunky, and all so you can put a flag patch? Why?

Good stuff!
I actually like the pockets in the back. I keep a beanie and some gloves back there don’t notice it and they don’t take up space in the front.
Seems like a nice system there! A bit pricey though.
FYI I believe for Black Friday they knock an additional $10 off the price.
That's a cool setup. Might be a useful item to keep on the bike
Yeah I agree
How do you like the hood? Does it limit your visibility? Does it fall off on a really windy & stormy rainy day?
