I live in Victoria, BC Canada and almost 30 years ago a 4 year boy named Michael Dunahee was taken from a family park while his parents attended a community softball tournament. Much like this case, he simply disappeared that day and his family has never had any trace of him. I firmly believe that these True Crime channels have immense power to help find these missing children. I hope all these families as can find their children soon😪

These cases are so heartbreaking... Daniel's case hurt me the most because I'm a twin myself. My twin brother is very overly friendly and naive most of the time, but he also has mental disorders that have stunted his brain growth so it's really not his fault. He has the mind of a child. So I'm almost always shadowing him whenever we're together. Protecting him. I love him so much and he doesn't have a mean bone in his body. For him to just disappear one day and never come back, I don't think I could ever live my life the same again. Every day would be torture. I really hope Daniel's case can be solved one day. My heart goes out to his family.

I have a twin brother too, and I felt so badly for him. Those questions the reporter asked likely just triggered up more pain. I pray he didn’t suffer long and the surviving brother got the help he needed to heal.

So terribly sad, my heart aches for both families.
I read later that they found Daniel’s remains and his killer convicted. All he got was twenty years. Life should mean life!
One of the interview questions at our local bus company is would you stop for a child, or refuse to let someone on if they didnt have the money. If they say they wouldn't stop or they would refuse to let someone on, they arent hired. This was after a driver here in the UK refused a young girl to board as she was 20p short of her fare. She was viciously attacked as she walked to be picked up and left with serioys injuries. In both drivers defence you would never think that Daniel or the young girl would be attacked. I would have put the 20p in myself though rather than let a young girl back on the street late at night and miles from home 😢

I've seen a more in-depth documentary related to this particular case and in my honest opinion it has to be one of the finest investigations of it's time. The lengths they went to solve this case and the use of newly developed and emerging forensic technology was astounding. Every level of this investigation was first-rate, from the initial stages of the investigation right through to the final stages of the investigation . No stone was left unturned by these investigators/forensic scientists and if it wasn't for their grit and determination to catch this culprit I truly believe this case might have gone unsolved and turned cold.

I've seen a few comments about the Daniel Morcombe case that contain either insufficient or erroneous information. Brett Cowan, was convicted of Daniel's murder in 2014 and sentenced to life with a non-parole period of 20 years.
It's clear that some people are confused about the difference between charging and conviction. A charge is a formal accusation of a crime. A conviction is either an acceptance or finding of guilt. A sentence is the punishment for a crime.
It was mentioned here that Western Australian police effected a Mr Big sting against Cowan. No. It was a Queensland case, investigated by the Queensland Police Service, with significant assistance from WA police. The main reason Western Australia figured in the investigation is because Cowan moved to WA after he murdered Daniel, probably seeking to put as much distance as he could between his aberrant, abhorrent crimes and investigators.
Those who live in Queensland know that the 'heat' around Daniel's disappearance was never really turned down. Daniel's parents were tireless in their vigilance, and the support they received for their efforts kept the case alive in the media and in the minds of the public.
Cowan was a person of interest in the case and as such appeared at the inquest into Daniel's disappearance in March 2011. It was on the flight back from Brisbane to WA that the first seeds of the Mr Big sting were sown, and by August 2011 Cowan was arrested and charged with Daniel's murder. There is a bit of footage online from that sting, and plenty of info about Mr Big sting operations. It's a Canadian technique that has resulted in several convictions, although in recent years has come under scrutiny because of the issue of false confessions.
No doubt in Cowan's case. He did it. He's a serial predator, who has been attacked a couple times in prison, once with a pot of boiling water, once with a shiv.

The investigation into the kidnapping was superb. Considering it occurred during the very early days of forensic science it was truly groundbreaking.
Two things struck me: that it was UNTHINKABLE at the time for a child to be kidnapped, and even hardened criminals were outraged.
Secondly, the sheer number of policemen assigned to the initial search, and the TOTAL dedication of detectives and civic leaders.
Another thought concerns the dateline of the crime, and the nationality of the perpetrator. He clearly moved from Hungary, a communist state, the norms and standards of which were antagonistic to those of Australia.

Andrea Rae .. Back then they had only this, their first kidnapping for ransom ending in murder, they said, to investigate. They could put every resource they had or could get, to work on solving it. Nowadays crime investigations are understaffed and overworked with a fraction of resources available to commit to still unsolved crimes and the hundreds of new ones being committed. Time and protection and supplying justice costs more than we seem to want to pay as a society nowadays. Sad, really sad.

This is when I can't stand reporters. When they are asked to not leak any knowledge of a kidnapping. When they do this I believe they have no regard for human life, they know it can put the person who is kidnapped in danger! They are only thinking of a big story not the life who was taking. Hmm...seem no different than the kidnappers. Now, when they are asked to get a story out to the media than fine. But thats only the way a reporter is not help responsible for the harm on the person kidnapped.

Weird how they never even speculate or even seem curious about WHY Greame was killed. If the abductor wanted a ransom then why immediately kill the boy? Especially strange considering all the mentioned calls from awful opportunists that were dismissed by the police because they couldn't answer questions about the boys life.
Also both segments of the programme are started with the suggestion of "many similarities between the cases", and then that's never mentioned again. That's odd, especially since the expected 'similarity' suggested by the title ("ransom") only applies to the first case. Frustrating programme.
