I've been selling on ebay for about 10 years now, this guy is spot on. Everything he shows is in great, used condition. That's so important, the other for me when estate sale hunting is SMOKE FREE. Non smokers can tell right away when they open the package.
I saw your interview with Kevin and watched all of your videos. I appreciate the time and effort you put into making them. I really enjoyed all of them.
Thanks for the video but: most people who hit the garage/estate sales know about old Christmas decorations/lights ,rotary phones, old Masons, yearbooks, old hand held games. That said....I love your videos. Very informative. Don't forget Paint by Numbers too :-)
It's true! Just moved into my grandmother's old house which is basically like living inside of an estate sale. She has bags and bags of vintage vaccum bags and all her original vaccum cleaners. While I don't think I'll ever run out, I thought I'll have to replace these on eBay!
Most mason jars go for 4-5 dollars unless they are really old and we all know that really old mason jars will never be in a thrift store. Not sure what that is all about.
I don't mean never but very rarely. Thrift stores do not typically have any real antiques. Some give preference to local antique dealers. That I am sure of.
Because you buy them for less than a dollar, and get 5-10 dollars from each one. If I buy 20 mason jars for $20. Then sell each for $5. I have an $80 profit. Or a total of $100 in my pocket.
the old xmas lites will have brass on the bulb's bottoms, the copper is in the wire (if you can cut off, remove the insulation-i just left it on). the rotary telephone is still usable, and once our electricity goes out, you can still use the phone (it has its own power). if not, you can harvest the parts, it has brass, steel, and copper inside, along w/ components that you can use for electronic projects (crystal radios, SW radios, ect.) good video!
That was a really fun video. I had not thought to sell any of those items, I will keep my eyes open to the possibilities now that the weather is getting warmer and we will be into yard sale season.
What makes it tough to sell items like phones or heavy cheap items is the shipping. No one wants to pay $20 for an item and you have to charge $20 for shipping. I tend to stay away from cheaper heavy items to sell online. Thanks.
Very true as a seller. But as a buyer, people will hunt out these specific things and there's really nowhere else to buy them. That makes them valuable, so just set your price. I absolutely have been in the market for a yellow rotary for years and now that I just bought a house I'm ready to buy. Ebay will be where I look. As far as anything too heavy or hard to ship, I use local Craigslist for that. Works great.
Great video, very helpful. Contrary to what someone else said, I know quite a bit of buying/re-selling trends and things that hold value and there was a lot on here I didn't know. No idea about yearbooks. I have a bunch, are they valuable without having famous people in them?
Great video. A real eye-opener. I picked up a 90 year old Ivy League college yearbook from an estate sale but since I didn't recognize anyone famous I just kept it as a curio. Thanks.
Another great video. I'll be on the lookout for vintage Xmas lights When you buy yearbooks, do you just scoop them all up, or do you have any criteria for choosing which ones to buy. Love the painting and drawing instruction books. They always sell fast.
Thanks for the video... cool stuff. My mother had those Christmas lights on her tree. Brings back great memories... did you know a few years ago wall mart was selling those lights? I think it was wall mart might have been the DG.
Buy expensive stuff on craigslist and resell. Always agree on the price you will buy for before meeting at a convenient place. It helps if you dont care that you buy/sell stolen stuff. I try to mainly deal with phones or things that can fit into my pockets so im always available to sell or buy
I just found you. Thank you for your time in letting me know about these things. I had no clue. I'm either what you'd call a collector or a pack rat. So many items, so little time. Thanks again
Some of those old bubble lights had fire hazard issues. That is why they were discontinued for some years. I would be kind of leery about selling those.
Bubble lights are only really worth anything if they're in near perfect condition and in it's original box. I myself have paid for them but I'd never by random old strings they die too easily. Even mine which I got in great condition are now not the best. But I know some people who still have theirs in perfect shape because they took great care of them. Bubble lights are tricky to keep protected.
Dallas, Thanks ! I'm intrigued by all of this. Do you use a set price, buy it now, best offer or start with bidding , to create a bidding war? Thanks Mark
I commented on one of the other videos but I wanted to say again, thanks for the great videos! My mom is big on the picking thing and she does seem to be pretty good at it and get a lot of good stuff but I've noticed lately she also tends to just buy things sometimes and thinks it's worth more than it is haha Anyways, sometimes I sell the stuff and a lot of it is good but I usually try to sell the stuff that goes for more rather than the smaller items. If you sell a lot of the smaller items though, it adds up so that's definitely a good idea. I sold a lot of stuff last year and then kind of got bored with it but just today I got back into it again so I'll have to try to find some of these items. We currently don't really need more stuff as we have a LOT already but I think I'm going to show her both of these top 10 videos and maybe some of your other ones and see if she can find me some of this stuff to sell. I think I'll also go through the garage and house and see if I can find any of these items - I'm sure we probably have quite a few lying around. I'm actually trying to save up for chickens and have to have enough to build the coop by February 10th (my dad can only work on it weekends and only until April because we have a boat too he needs to start getting ready then) and want to get to the items before my brother does which is why I randomly decided to get back into eBay today. :P I only need about $250 so it should be pretty easy to get that but as I'm sure you know, it takes a while to sell and get your money, so I don't have much time. ANYWAYS. I got off on a bit of a tangent there so I apologize but great video(s)!
hi! great video!! would you recommend the electronics games work to sell, or do collectors care whether they work or not? if so - do you shop the sales with batteries in your car just in case?
funny how things take off. Mason jars is a good for instance. Showed up with tons of ideas on Pinterest and everyone wants them. Beware of the new ones and ones that have been stained to look old.
The best thing to do is look on ebay to see what is getting the bids. I have watched a few of these videos (by different people) and they say things like sell shirts with snaps. I go to ebay and enter shirt with snap buttons and there are many that have no bids, and the sale ends in one hour or a few minutes. Of course people might be holding out for the last minute to bid, but I would think some newbies would be bidding early. So do your research.
Thanks for the great information . Subbed and liked . Keep up the great work , time to browse thru your other videos , Peace and best of luck from Australia
Thanks for this. I watched this yesterday and went to a flea market today and sure enough picked up a tortoise rotary dial phone that normally I would have not enough noticed for $5.

How does one date the shoes? and or even clothing in general?

Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. Great video.
Whenever I'm out picking I just look down at my WWDD? bracelet. Its got me farther then my old WWEE? gangster chain I found in the dump...lol
I havn't seen any of that yet but, I'll sure watch out for it. Thanks...
Thanks! This is giving me more insight, I want to broaden my inventory. I have passed by some of those things. Uggh! At least now I know :)
nostalgia galore
Your awesome for sharing your info:)) Thanks 🌹
oddly what you do well with I do not. Find that with other sellers too, they do well with a few kinds of things, I do not. I do well with stuff they can't seem to sell tho. Weird how that works.
Thanks so much! Great advice.
