    I am not entirely sure what facts the "overpriced" theme of responses are based on in this comment thread. The vans spec is very high with 300w of solar on the roof, an extensive array of external driving led lamps, an audio system worthy or a night club, a hefty winch, an integrated lithium battery/inverter combo, underbody protection etc. If you take a look at the Westafalia SvenHedin price list and then add all the extras up prices are not too dissimilar. If you do a straight USD/GBP conversion on the cost of a Winnebago Revel you'll come out with similar costs before you start adding the extras. The fact that these vans are entirely bespoke adds another degree of value that does not seem to have been taken into account. Now, I've no doubt that if you were a bit handy and had a garage full of power tools you might do this yourself for less but in truth there aren't that many people about that can do that. The guys at Vanworx provide a niche product to a niche market. Just because something might be too rich for some does not mean its overpriced.
    Full disclaimer. I am not the owner of this van. I do not work for Vanworx. And, having had a VW Cali for several years I looked around for something like this; I found very little and have ordered a MaxTraxx ( with shower/loo ) for delivery in March.

      That’s really exciting for you! Very jealous! We absolutely loved the quality at Vanworx and you can 100% see where the money has been spent. You’re going to have an awesome van to travel in.
      I think a lot of people won’t realise how expensive a lot of the bespoke parts and things like the specialised off-road seikel suspension costs too. Obviously if you didn’t want that equipment you don’t have to have it to save cost. Also a brand new VW Crafter is not cheap to begin with!
      We are 100% of the opinion that cost is totally relative and every individual is going to weigh that up against what it’s worth to them. If someone thinks they can get this level of quality for less then use that as a driving force for inspiration for their own builds, rather than bringing a really cool company down in the comments.
      Thanks for a great comment and I really hope you get many years of epic travel out of your new van in March. Send us photos!! Can’t wait to see it!

      Paul Brant you don’t need to justify it to me friend!
      I’d simply expect a fridge that holds a decent amount of food and loo at least for that price. Perhaps the LWB would be better but is only a : berth.
      My Rapido sleeps and seats 5 and cost £58 k
      Yes not off road but who actually needs an off reader outside Iceland or Oz
      Sorry if your upset but £95k is a house up north!

      Check what campers you can buy with 95k. Then you will understand, that this van is way way over priced for what it is.

    I do like the VW quality and the 4 motion is excellent,it`s got me out of a few wet fields and left standard campers spinning in the mud. I have a t6 camper and love it, just about to upgrade to a t6.1 California. You have a great time with your quality machine.

      I think thats why he pointed out that he ordered one. And please, again, if you can show one with a similar spec for a better price... IN THE UK... please post a link, as I would like something similar for cheaper. Seeing as the van alone comes in at about 50K new in the uk... add everything else... Not sure how anyone could do it much cheaper, hence my request for a link.

    Good video, many thanks for the info, interesting van, great quality build, some good equipment spec, really cool company. Expensive, but quality is! And expense is relative, and an individual thing. Each to their own; but I think we'll stick with the compact T5! We are so lucky there's such a range of vehicles and choice out there, and people and engineers willing to construct them; from 'build-your-own' to top-spec. Kudos Shaun, for the Movember fund raiser - though not keen on the moustache images! Cheers.

    Nice attention to detail, and the lounge area looks spacious, but like everybody else has said, far too expensive for what it is. If I could afford that, I'd spend a lot less on a proper motorhome, something like the Kon-Tiki that Bob and Jenny Earnshaw have just bought. Separate bedroom, and bathroom at the far end. I wouldn't want to be subjected to my husband sitting on the portapotti in the lounge area!

    Lots of haters in the comments, which is only to be expected on TH-cam I guess, but I don't understand what they're complaining about. If they don't like it, don't buy it. If you think it's over-priced jog on, nobody cares, enjoy your converted Fiat Uno. The spec of this van seemed extremely high quality to me and, as it's all bespoke, complaining about the fit-out is crazy since you could get it any way you fancy. Don't envy you that weather - greets from Oz.

    • @paulwood7798
      @paulwood7798 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Everyone is free to have an opinion. If it was one or two you could put it down as trolls. As the van has garnered a lot of comments and most of them negative kinda says what the general thinking is for the vehichle. Most do not diss the van most diss the ridiculous price. A bus and beyond are VW fans and in general love all things VW. If the people who support their channel sometimes disagree I think they are entitled to say so.

    • @davidgarnsworthy3236
      @davidgarnsworthy3236 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@paulwood7798 Is the price ridiculous though if you can give a full breakdown of spec? I can assure you we have not plucked the price out of thin air. Seriously when you start with the vehicle at half the overall price (£52k from VW and then £7k discount applied) and start adding £20k of kit on the outside, 4k leisure battery, £2k bed, 2k upholstery, £2k audio and a huge more amount of kit the price is as competitive as we can make it. That said we're not forcing anyone to buy it and have put everything we can in to it. We built it for fun and to see what the demand would be and we have already sold 3/6 buildslots that we can manage over a year. We see Transporters coming through our workshops at similar prices, again we will build what customers want from an entry level Transporter camper through to stuff like this.

    • @paulwood7798
      @paulwood7798 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidgarnsworthy3236 Yes it is ridiculous. Most people who originally connected with this channel did so because they were people with an interest or a need to know more about an interesting couple who went to van meets and shared their experience of working and touring and make a few friends and give a few tips along the way. From the reaction of most it is obvious that the van would need to fit a certain criteria and for these people it does not. I am sure the van has a market somewhere but not with these people. I have used my skills as a joiner and mechanic to build a number of self builds down the years and they were good quality builds but were nowhere near the price you ask and the one brand new van build I did would still leave me with £40.000 change from your asking priceand that included Oven Shower, fridge etc. I will be fair to you and say I think all New Motorhomes in the UK are way over priced but people still buy them so it feeds the market and you need to make some profit. But in the main you are selling it to the wrong people on this channel.

    This hasn't been designed for your average camping family or full time off grid living. This is an adventure wagon for couples/friends to head off into the wilderness action sporting, its for having the confidence that you can go anywhere for days poss weeks no issues. Cook with a bbq and shower out the back. I have just bought a 4 motion crafter for the above reasons and will be converting myself. I have priced all the components on this van and they are very expensive. They are a business and need to make money, i looked at a new T6 camper and it was 58k and i couldn't even stand up in it. There is a market for this and it will sell. It doesn't suit everyone but it suits me only i don't have 95k

I imagine the target purchaser is someone with an awful lot of expendable cash who need to visit quite extreme locations, neither of which are me unfortunately. Have seen other vans by Vanworx at shows in the past and they always looked like lovely vans with a high quality finish.

  • @neilgooge
    @neilgooge 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would argue, far too many of the people commenting, have been watching far too many van builds, with some very pretty photography, hiding some less than quality builds. That kind of sweep it under the rug building. Not to mention how many of them are likely in the US where this stuff is far cheaper... as most things are.
    Don't get me wrong, I can't afford one of these, but anything I got for cheaper, wouldn't be the off road beast at this quality of build that this one is. Sure, I could get a cheaper van built, and I could build a much cheaper van myself, but it definitely wouldn't be anything like this.
    This comment section highlights everyones want of everything for nothing... And so why everything these days says made in china, is poor quality on inspection and then people wonder why it lasted a week. ;)

    Two types of people in this country now, people who have ordinary jobs,or no jobs and struggle,that's most of us, then people who live in a country where £95,000 seems a fair price for a campervan, the spec you list can be bought fairly cheaply "led lamps" cheap as chips!
    The "overpriced" theme is a reflection of how campers are now pricing themselves out of the popular market, some city type may buy one to park on his gravel driveway. Anyway, you won't find many of your "niche" market on youtube, you will piss off a lot of camper van enthusiasts though!

      @@davidgarnsworthy3236 I'd suggest the price of the base vehicle is way overpriced, many of the components added in the conversion are expensive because of their quality and specialist nature, this unfortunately adds up to a vehicle which is very expensive and overpriced in my opinion, I'm in no way knocking the quality of the vehicle or it's capabilities, cheers. PS If money was no object for me I would consider owning one!

      AoToGo we apply a £7k discount to this vehicle before we start and the VW base vehicles aren’t cheap. Please bear in mind there is a large spec on the base vehicle. As a business we have tried to be competitive on price in every part of the build. When you start adding everything up the total does swell quite quickly. Starting price for a 4motion with 4 berth conversion albeit without a few of the extras starts at c.£70k inc vat

    Got to be honest I'm struggling with this. Great filming but there are a lot of negatives about this van so I would have liked a more unbiased review. The price is ridiculous 95K, but worse than that there is no external decal so should not be classed as a "motor home" as it does not satisfy DVLA rules and yet it is!

    • @davidgarnsworthy3236
      @davidgarnsworthy3236 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sue & Paul Brown Vanworx are one of the few converters in the UK building to the highest conversion standard - Whole Vehicle Type Approval. None of our vehicles have external decals. I think you may have read some ‘guidelines’.

    4x4 Vans are inherently expensive. The whole point of this conversion is to get you into the wild away from everyone else. All of the American conversions of Sprinters etc are similar money. Well done Vanworx for a UK version. No they aren't cheap - but what price freedom? Yes you can buy a Coach built cheaper and use camp sites etc - but this is not built for that - it's an Adventure Van designed for independent travel. Not for the masses but for the individuals.

    Buy a new Commercial one at entry level for about £33.000 and then build your own and see. Remember you do not need to get paid the man hours you put in your van and for what I can see, the materials are of good quality and the workmanship is finely done. Please do not campre pears with apples. If you got sick with an illness and you had to choose between 2 doctors and the one with the steeper price gave you better results than the cheeper one most of you would pay it with your mouths shut. Also if your boss told you right now, I am paying you too much I am cutting your salary by half you would be pissed. So why do it to someone else?
    If it is overpriced for you, keep it to yourselves and move on to what your wallet can afford or you are comfortable to pay. THIS IS MY OPINION. Bash me, I do NOT CARE.
