    Hi Dan, got my first Caravan in Jan 2018, it had the old TV Aerial on a mast which was rubbish, i spoke to the Caravan Engineer who was servicing the fridge about it and he assured me the best Aeriel on the market was the Millenco 900L Omnidirectional Aeriel, i purchased it, fitted it to my Caravan and its great !!, no need for turning the Aeriel as its a fixed unit, ive been to a few sites and the TV signal is excellent, got it on e bay, i think it cost £99.99 and would highly reccommend it, .......Eddie.

    Good vlog dan. Nice point of the antenna facing backwards when traveling 👍🏻👍🏻. Never really put any thought on it and always have mine facing forward but doing it that way I’m straining the pole. 👍🏻👍🏻. Another point to make out if ur van is in storage and don’t have a solar charger is to turn the amplifier off as it’s live all the time and drains the battery

      Good point, ours is switched off by the main panel, but i do switch it off when i collapse the antenna when leaving home.
      Thanks again, trust you are all well

    Hi, I'm a caravanner and the developer of the app you're using, Antenna Aligner! It's great to see it being used. It is only available for iOS at the moment, but I am hoping to have an android version available very soon!
    I do find that while copying other caravans is a fairly good 'rule of thumb' way for alignment, I often find that I get a better signal in other directions and polarity.

      Hi, my old van has the old Status Omni directionall type! Would you know, Will the 570 fit through the old roof fitting and be water tight?
      Great posts by the way, and very well done as well as informative and interesting, keep em coming please👍

    Excellent video. In our 'motorhome swap to caravan' we now have a TV . So we have the exact same aerial and we have not had a chance to try it out yet. This vlog is hugely helpful. Thank you 👍

    Dan, another excellent video on upgrading your antenna, well worth watching along with all the tips and hints, plus the problems of course. Well done, I wouldn't hesitate to change my antenna after watching your video, but only if I had too. Thank you also for the app info which always helps when in a remote area. I have to say, usually I just have a look at the way all the aerials are pointing on the nearby houses or caravans, but I take your point when you are completely isolated.

    hi Dan enjoy the vlog and advice only advice I can offer is when filling top of screws rather then silicone try dripping wax in then if ever need remove the screws again just heat the end of a screw driver up and push it into the wax, hope the upgrade was worth it. all best

    There's another advantage of the 570 you may not be aware of. Since the 530 was launched the digital bandwidth has been increased and the 570 has been designed to receive this wider range of signals giving more stations than are available with the 530.

    Great information and if and when we use our tv aerial I’ll know now if it’s working and how to fix it.
    We never take a tv in the caravan, odd to most people but it’s such a relaxing holiday without a television.
    We have a dongle so use the laptop to watch catchup occasionally.

    We have exactly the same issue. I have resealed the edge of the aerial but there is still a bit of water that gets through. We have a bin bag to over the end of the end to catch the drips. Might be time to upgrade.

      I have this same problem of water running down the centre tube, I sealed all round mine last year including the joint casing around the antenna itself, but this winter still got drips again, i use my caravan in winter, and im beginning to think it could be condensation, and the antenna is acting like a damp trap, my thought is the warmer air from inside the caravan goes up inside the antenna through the tube, cold air outside then makes the warmer air inside the antenna condensate, and after a few months there is that much moisture build up inside it runs back down the tube.....

    Nice helpful video's, might have helped if you'd told us what size hole cutter is required for the original fit, so to that end they are 45mm & yes I do realise that you didn't need to cut a hole.

    I’ve just fitted the latest status 580 a little bit more expensive but a much longer pole than the 570 worth the extra money reception is much better to the onboard radio as well after running new coax from amplifier to radio bit fiddly but worth doing this was on a swift Conqueror

    Did you have to make up a coaxial lead to connect the radio outlet from the VP5 to then connect directly to your splitter? In doing so I would be doing away with my separate FM area like you too had on your Lunar? Or does the splitter allow me to use the FM aerial to get the DAB signals?

  • @MrTimGJ

    No mention of Gain, either of the antenna or the amplifier.
    The gain allows you to compare the performance of the antenna and amplifier.
    I'm always very wary of any manufacturer that doesn't quote the gain in the product specification.

    Is this antenna height adjustable. We have an omni aerial but like to put a cover on as we sit the caravan under a tree. If this could come right down onto the caravan roof when the caravan is not used, it could save us a lot of problems with aerial meeting cover.

    • @TheTrudgians

      If you have an existing hole, you simply need to widen this to 50mm diameter. (hole cutter attachment will be fine.)

      Hi, the omni directionals are a good antenna, but the performance of an antenna that can point at the transmitter will always be greater, however it will need adjusting wherever you go, thats the downside.

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheTrudgians I have to crank my amp to max to pick up a signal if I have to put my amp the other end of the caravan I’ll have to run a 12v supply to the other end of the Carvan. I don’t mind doing this as long as the led works , the fact I’m picking up a signal would you leave it as it is? It was routed the other end of the caravan when I bought the caravan so I put it in the same place , so the Ariel is one end the amp is the other end . Will this effect the signal?

    I was told and also my understanding that the red dot must be pointing in the direction of travel, with the narrow part of the antenna facing forwards and the wide section at the rear, this creating less drag on the antenna when driving. Can you confirm this

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Robert,
      No this is incorrect. The red dot is aligned with the front of the antenna. When in transit the antenna MUST face backwards, to prevent damage to the rubber seal.
      When facing forward the antenna will wobble with wind resistance, causing some oscillation, this over time will weaken the seal.
      See Here for Status 530 antennas (on page 1)
      www.visionplus.co.uk/assets/pdfs/530_ENG/530_ENG.pdf
      and here for Status 560 and above (On page 2)

      THanks Dan you are 100% correct. Theres a lot of misconception out there even dealer and rental companies are telling people it should face forward and the red dot should be facing forward., but as you say it should point rearwards when travelling. Big Thumbs up there Mate.

    • @TheTrudgians
      @TheTrudgians  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,
      The user manual is pretty clear on which way to point the antenna when in transit. Im sure its connected with the aerodynamics of the aerial and oscillation against the rubber collar. Here is the text from page 2 :
      Travelling
      When positioning the Antenna Dome please
      allow for the following:-
      DO NOT TRAVEL:-
      • With the Antenna raised
      • With the Antenna set for vertical signals
      To reduce the possibility of damage when
      travelling, have the antenna pointing towards
      the rear of your caravan/motor home.
