“TH-cam creators provide the alternative entertainment that can’t be found on mainstream TV Programming” NAILED IT. I don’t care at all about folks getting mad at each other over romantic interests, or dragons, or zombies, or whatever is the new TV trend. Keep up the awesome, educational, entertaining, and consistent content. There’s lots of us that enjoy it without complaints.
Exactly why is it when someone does something unique that makes you think outside the box the Haters come a calling. I think it is because they only can understand the normal regurgitated content that most channels produce. Keep up the great work Jimbo .
Coffee.. Check... Scrambled eggs with Pepper jack cheese.. Check.. Orange juice.. Check.. Skillet ham.. Check.. And biscuits and saw mill gravy with extra pepper.. Check!!
I had a good laugh when I heard Jimbo say: "Reverse is a luxury that I am not used to on most of my projects." I remember asking Jimbo every week if he fixed reverse on his Renault. 😂 2025 is going to be a good year!
16:43 Jimbo, thank you so much for saying that. You hit the nail right on the head, I was one of the first 3000 subscribers EXACTLY for the absurdity of putting a Predator 212 in a Honda Insight! Keep this channel outside the box! TH-cam is full of overpowered builds, no need to compete with that! Thank you Jimbo and RC team!
Likewise! I've been here a very good while! I love the quirky tinkering. And - dare I say it - Jimbo's competence, knowledge and humour make it! Just the right mix of knowledge, ambition and adventure!
I have a worn-out electric golf cart I wanted to repower with a gas powertrain, but this series gives great guidance on keeping the torquey electric rear axle with an easily serviceable gas-powered system. Thank you for the quality content!
If it was a Tesla, it would definitely need a diesel engine to power the generator. A big smoky diesel engine, with the exhaust stuck up through the hood.
Propa Fancy and no mistaking!. Lightweight chassis, Ferrari red, White Wall tyres. The local eye candy are gunna be dribbling over this one Jimbo!!. Just make sure one of them don't leave there false teeth tucked down the back of that plush bench seat for your Mrs to find is all I'm saying. Bling bling baby!. Smile on Jimbo 😎
16:20 This channel genuinely has some of the most out of the box and unique builds. They might not be high dollar high horsepower, in fact they're usually the opposite but they scratch that itch we've all had of like, "what if I put a predator engine in X?" "what if I converted this electric golf cart to hybrid?" etc. It begs the question, "why not?!" and I love to see it. Genuinely one of the most educational and interesting automotive channels on youtube. Definitely hit the nail on the head w "this is the type of entertainment I want to see" that you can't get on legacy media channels. I can't stand watching another six figure LS swap build where they buy off the shelf components and slap it all together with as much brand sponsorship as possible. Yuck
Love the channel Reminds me of my youth. I can remember I wanted a go cart. My family couldn't afford one but I did find a ride on lawn mower with a blown motor for ten dollars. I remember I stuck just a regular lawn mower. Engine on it and then I figured out how to make it go much faster through change in the size of pulleys. I did all this when I was around twelve- thirteen. Didn't have anyone to show me how to do it. I just had to try and figure it out.
Whenever you go back to all - electric, buy individual Lifepo4 cells and wire them for the correct voltage. Tons more usable capacity than even deep cycle lead acid batteries.
Using field windings as a throttle is the genius of this project. I do not know if I will ever need to use this, but I am glad that I know that it can be made to work.
Whoo-hoo! Your front suspension, with the lower transverse leaf also serving as the lower control arm, is similar to Barney Roos' Planar independent front suspension first used on the 1935 Studebaker Commander. Yup, you basically got yourself a Studebaker here. It is a shout-back to automotive history, and I hope you can keep it.
You're the best, Jimbo! I love your videos, I wouldn't change a thing. Keep doing what you're doing, or whatever it is that makes you happy, and we will keep watching!
Thanks Paul! Yes the cushman will live on. We plan on putting it back together so we can have the worlds first petroleum battery drag race when the club car is finished.
Custom fabrication work like this is by no means easy! As always good job. Not much space to work with, but you did it! Very practical idea here. I’m sure others will follow and try their hand at it. Keep up the good work Jimbo!!!
You can get prefilter socks for those air filters pretty inexpensively. The better ones are water repellent, so the filter doesn't get soaked if it's in the path of spray. I have one on my minibike with the same setup, and it does a great job of keeping all but the fine dust out of the actual filter.
I've seen literal human socks stuck on air filters to prefilter them. Effectiveness is probably debatable, but I assume it was done to solve a problem with what was available.
The new cart's front suspension reminds me of the setup in the 50s and 60s rear engine FIATs which also used a leaf spring as one of the suspension arms.
Keep going Mr. Jimbo ! I come here for the entertainment value and if I learn something in the process that's considered a bonus. THAT and there's hardly anything on TV today that's worth turning the tube ON. Looking forward to next episode ! 👌😎👍
I love this crazy project and i can hardly believe how well it works. BUT, i recently converted my golf cart to a huge lithium pack. It was a really interesting build, one i would love to see how you would do.
That little red fuel tank is adorable. Never replace it please! Your bodgework is second to none, Jimbo. Its so good its not even a bodge any more, its just reengineering.
You are right we all came here to see the over-engineered golf cart because who else would make something appear simple yet is bloody complicated!! Cheers for sharing the process and making me wonder what weird creation I could come up with!!
Nearly half an hour! What a great episode among all the great episodes 😎👍 Thank you Jimbo, this is exactly the kind of content I like too, keep going 🙂
Not sure if this is possible. But it would be cool If you could borrow a stock Club Car, and do a side-by-side comparison. Maybe some Top Gear style challenges? 😎
Jimbo - I can replace batteries - not sure I'd watch a random video on that. But, I am not able to do most of the fabrication and brain-storming you do to make these projects go. While I am handy, you are a maker. I look forward to your videos for many reasons but the spirit of experimentation is probably most enjoyable for me. Thanks!!
I had a 2001 EZGO TXT gas powered. It was amazingly quiet and smooth with that 2cyl robbins/subaru engine. With the governor zip tied to eliminate it, did 30mph. I added 19" atv tires front and 20" rear without a lift, and a rear winch too. It was the ultimate poor man's UTV.😂
It’s a real shame that the golf cart has to be restored to be given away! Great video. I wonder if this is going to become a popular conversion. If someone started making kits they might sell!
Right on jumbo! If you can't be entertained and find your own video boring the what's the point! Thanks for the selinoid cable going to use it for a fast idle for my mercedes diesel ranger build 👌🏼! I was looking for a push or pull selinoid, but that will work!
Big fan of your project. In college I used to buy and repair broken golf carts so it has been fun to watch. I now run a 3D printing shop. Let me know if you want me to send you some custom petroleum battery badges for your projects.
Im here for research and development, Thank you for paying for it all for me! I look forward to adapting your project to mower a motorcycle or pontoon boat.
It's nice that you clean the rims when changing tires. A local tire shop wouldn't, so as any mud and dirt caked in hidden areas in rims washed out the balance would go off.
The vibration isolation is almost a textbook example. However, for a bit better isolation, I would stiffen up the plate near the front motor mount with an L-profile across. The idea is that you want as big of a difference in stiffness as possible between the rubber isolators and their mounting points. Also, it is absolutely possible to achieve low exhaust restriction and high noise reduction in a silencer. This however will require the silencer to grow larger.
Thanks for the great vid man. Enjoying this project and the smaller bites you do into projects. I have my own project going on and using your videos to help me learn the process and get out of my shell. Still learning though and appreciate the time you spend on these videos.
I guess 'Tim the Tool Man Taylor' would say - "That Lady don't know what she wants with her Golf cart... So lets junk the electrics & install a 600cc Motorbike engine for more powarrr! Hurgh hurgh hurgh!!!!" 😏👍🤣🤣🤣 😎🇬🇧
I LOVE your series of random highly unique builds!!! My next idea for you would be to build a street legal 670+ turbo swapped Heated+ac cabin golf kart :)))
If the alternator has the capacity to charge a battery as well I see 400amp available and a bicycle triangular battery is relatively cheap. This was an idea I was thinking of as well, quiet mode Edit to add: thinking the petroleum battery would need enlarged a touch to do the above.
16:00 yeah and nobody has upwards of $1000 laying around for new batteries on a electric golf cart lol…. Keep up the great work i’ll be looking for a similar golf cart to do a similar project. Hopefully this summer might try one of those small diesel motors that look like a predator lol
I started watching these videos for the wacky shenanigans, now I'm watching these videos is giving me ideas on how to fix my go kart and add a proper reverse to it and give it more ground clearance. It makes enough power, but it hasn't run since about 2010, so there will probably be lots of visits to the jungle site!
I love your projects! The challenge, thought processes and creativity of one-off projects can be very rewarding for many of us. I am becoming inspired to start on another "crazy project" myself.
That lower control arm/spring is brilliant! Never seen that used in anything before. Seems like that would be a great idea to minimize weight and lower unsprung weight
The replacement silent muffler I got for my GX340 is absolutely awesome 👌neighbor can't even hear it at all, if its raining, the original was one of those small square types that sit too close to the motor etc for my liking, and very loud.
I'm not sure that rubber exhaust hanger is going to do much as an engine mount. Have you considered using a polyurethane exhaust hanger instead? It should be stiff enough to be more effective as an engine mount and more durable too. As in added benefit, you should be able to find a couple for under $10 from "the jungle site". Should swap right in with a bit of soapy water.
Would be interesting to make it a dual motor "4WD" setup by putting the electric motor from the other golf in it to drive the other wheels. Not sure how well the petroleum "battery" could handle two motors though.
Really excited to see how this turns out. Given that i have almost all the ingredients (elec cart, 212, alt, alt to 212 bracketry) im really tempted to recreate this one. My theoretical 'spin' on the idea would be to use the cable solenoid on a WOT switch to adjust the governor from ~2800 to ~4300 rpm to lower part throttle noise, along with a contactor briefly hooking the 12v starter battery through a diode (and perhaps a large resistive winding as on my 1989 electric cart) to the motor circuit as a form of 'tip in enrichment' if the cart didn't like rolling away from a stop at the lower engine rpm. Excited to see the next installment!
This reminds me when i did put a genset controller on my cheap "6kw" generator. Also used the choke of the bigger ones, but put a solenoid directly on it
Hey Jimbo! Nice work🙂 Because this thing has a series wound motor, aka a universal motor because it will run with AC or DC input, you could simplify the system even more and increase efficiency by not rectifying the alternator output.
Michigan!? Didn't know you where around these parts, I watched that video series as well, thought that was all in Kansas. That is one thing we got going for us in MI, however, they don't last long!! Great video as always!
Loving the golf carts. I really hope one gets an off the shelf generator and small battery like a series hybrid car. Would love to see what you can do with controlling it all.
LMAO You can tell Jimbo is salty about not being able to cut the cross member. 😆
The best option would probably be to make the crossmember removeable. Just modify it so that it can be bolted back in.
How much would we need to contribute so he could buy another cart?!? That would be the way!
@@Stevemax07 More fun to "climb the mountain" and Jimbo's a "climber" if I've ever met one! This channel is like a spa for the brain huh?
Trying (in vain?) to avoid all the comments pointing out the obvious?
I thought the same thing 😂

I dug out our TV for Christmas. However much I try to watch a "normal" TV-series, I just loose interest.
Not much on tv nowadays for sure. I watch the weather on it and they seem to lie about it too.

IDK, I'd settle for dragons and zombies building cool projeccts in the shop...
But yes, Jimbo scratches an itch mainstream media doesn't touch!

I need to see a Tesla with a “Petroleum Battery.” The M3 with a bad battery would be pretty cheap. Awesome channel, Jimbo!
If it was a Tesla, it would definitely need a diesel engine to power the generator. A big smoky diesel engine, with the exhaust stuck up through the hood.

The idea of a lift kit on a golf cart 🤣 I want to see that bad boy with the 2 foot lift 😂
It's nice that you clean the rims when changing tires. A local tire shop wouldn't, so as any mud and dirt caked in hidden areas in rims washed out the balance would go off.

The snow and ice would be awesome for doing donuts in the parking lot if the cart were finished...
The vibration isolation is almost a textbook example. However, for a bit better isolation, I would stiffen up the plate near the front motor mount with an L-profile across. I would leave a small battery in it and turn it into a hybrid. That would make it quite the fuel sipper!
If the alternator has the capacity to charge a battery as well I see 400amp available and a bicycle triangular battery is relatively cheap. This was an idea I was thinking of as well, quiet mode
Edit to add: thinking the petroleum battery would need enlarged a touch to do the above.
The whole thing becomes WAY more complicated if you do that. And really not worth it for the minimal fuel savings you would gain in a DIY project.
