I figured this very same thing out by myself, about thirty years ago. I completely agree with this speaker. This is a logical way of thinking, but problem is that most of the people just doesn't understand, nor do they care when you start to talk about this kind of ideas. They need proof that it can work. GOOD LUCK!

I resent his "I know more than you tone." I knew this too in 994 when I was first exposed computers, I was 17. Many other people have known this from earlier (See star trek and star wars creators and almost any kind of sci-fi writer) I lost an accounts payable job to a software bot in 1998, and made a joke of it since it was ironic my degree was in Management Info Systems, which deals with aims to proving workplace processes thru the application of tech

That is helpful but understand that corporates control politics so they would not want to get tax more or help people. We need a resource-based economy. I am not sure exactly how we are going to get there.

      *****
A universal Basic income is one alternative for a transitional period to RBE... but a universal basic income is already being seriously considered as an idea in Switzerland and a referendum on it will be held I think in 2016 (cannot be sure on the exact date).
In UK, the existing benefits system would have to undergo a relatively minor alteration to create the UBI.
Other countries that have a version of the welfare system could also pull it off, as well as those that don't.
Reality of the situation is that once the idea starts rolling in one country, it will be impossible to stop it...

I don't think he is talking about a Utopia, it sounds more along the lines of necessary evolution similar to what discovering fire did in changes to the human race including the size and intelligence of the human brain. It also freed up time for creative thought and development that took us to where we are today. We, as a species are outstripping the planets ability to sustain us, change is the next step, but what change?

j okal Well, hopefully that's the case - but if the ultra-rich are really determined, they could potentially acquire an unlimited robot army to do their bidding and suppress any resistance the masses may mount against them. Such an army will merely carry out any given instructions and have 0 moral hangups about terminating their fellow humans or countrymen as human soldier may have.

I see more than a few holes in your argument, for such short argument to have that many questionable things its an indication of an idea that lacks development. It could be right, just need to answer the question that it brings before that.

Ever since I was a kid, I was always thinking about how and why things are as they are in this society. Humans are greedy, we constantly seek profit and growth to satisfy our endless needs. We contribute to society in a way that doesn't necessarily suit us and we don't think far.
After multiple reflections, I ended up with the same conclusion as Federico and other thinkers.
However, in the case of income, we technically don't need money if we can do things ourselves and do barter.
If we can decrease our consumption needs, reduce our costs and be more self-sufficient, basic and vital needs like physiological needs would be fulfilled. Of course, this transition can be made by learning new skills and by changing our mindset.
Robots should not be used for mass production but as facilitators, as humans' companions that permit to take care of the most dangerous, time-consuming, technical jobs and make life easier.

We have the technology. We just have to implement it. Solar and wind could be used (without needing to store the power) if we network the power grid globally. What is stopping us is the need for competing companies to make a profit. (I mean you just can't share - how would that look?) Unless that obstacle can be overcome, Geo-thermal seems to be the best possible option that everyone loves to ignore (probably because power would become to cheap for anyone to make any money from it).

Check out Open Source Ecology. They've got a plot of land in Missouri and they're working to create the 50 basic machines that you need to make a self-sustaining community with modern comforts. It's called the Global Village Construction Set.

+togethia I applaud Federico if he is actually earning a living from writing a book, I have published five books and so far I would be homeless if I had to live off the modest income from them.

VENUS PROJECT anyone.. I wonder if this guy did spend some time with the projects director Jacque Fresco?
Jacques vision "The Venus Project" and the implementation of a Resource Based Economy is the most feasible alternative to our current broken socioeconomic system.
For anyone interested please check out "The Venus Projects" TH-cam channel for some wonderfully insightful perspectives.

There are some jobs that won't get stolen by any robots any time soon. Science, engineering, health care... but it's true that nobody needs a job. All we need are food, shelter, water, electricity, clothing, basic services - the real reason why we need jobs is that this world is ruled by private property. The means of production are in the hands of a few private companies. That's something we must change.

What we need is for groups to start forming these open source, DIY, technology societies on plots of land like hippies did in the 60s but with technology. Prove it. I think it can work personally but it will take a lot of doing to start off then the models can be copied again and again.

Words like "job" and "job market" belong to the industrial age.
They will be anachronisms in the post-industrial age.

well they are very similar - but fedrico has been saying similar things for years - he was one of the earliest organizers of the zeitgeist movement - the subtitle - how to survive it - is equally important -and the zeitgeist movement has been saying what has to happen to avoid disaster - and that is a resorce based economy - have you seen zeitgeist moving forward yet - frederico advocates the ideas there

The problem is, people are greedy. They will not be satisfied with a basic guaranteed income. This will be compounded when low IQ people are faced with boredom. As the saying goes, "Idle hands are the devil's playground." I don't see this ending well.

Thanks to exponential advances in technology, all jobs will soon be obsolete. He advocates we use this technology to create an abundance while evolving out of this capatilistic value system. Once all of their needs are met, people who truely enjoy designing and creating will continue do so without a monetary incentive. Money would be obsolete. I recommend you watch Zeitgeist: Moving Forward and Paradise or Oblivion, to help you further understand this train of thought.
