    As an update... if your hardware is up to it, you'd really better use Open Broadcasting Software (www.obsproject.com). On my Lenovo Thinkpad X200, the video hardware wasn't up to the job though. So there I stick to this approach.

      Hi Abdul, thanks for your feedback. By now, I'm also using OBS but (as I said in my previous comment) ... on older hardware it doesn't work (needs OpenGL 9 if I recall correctly). What issues are you having with KeyMon? If it's crashing, try starting it from the terminal window, then you get more feedback on what causes the crash... (the command is key-mon). What distro and version are you using?

      I did exactly like you said and this is what terminal came up with pastebin.com/6sRhzajs . I'm on Linux Mint 18 Cinnamon.

      Hi Jurgen, thank you for your help. The problem was actually in the locale as you can see in the link I posted earlier. Changed it to en_us and it's working fine. Thanks for suggesting to run key-mon from terminal. Have a nice day/night.

      Hi Abdul, glad you got it fixed! The terminal is always a great fallback when you have an app crashing. This is a nice thing about linux :)

    For the sake of completeness:
    Here are some tips when you try the same under Windows:
    1. Key-Mon --> SpotOnMouse (costs $15)
    2. gtkRecordMyDesktop --> CamStudio (Free)
