You forgot to ask me to subscribe to your channel, and to buy things from your sponsor, and so on and so forth, for the first 25% of your vid. For which I can only say, "Well done, sir!" (67 yrs old, I played with crystal radios in my youth. I've always been mystified by what a "cat's whisker" was. So a thousand thanks.)

I too am 67, used to build crystal radios, and can't stand all the self-promotion that takes up time (on top of ads and sponsorships). That said I don't make any money doing this, it's just a retirement hobby. ;)

That took a lot of work, congratulations.
I would love to make my own cat whisker.
You have given me some ideas.
Any two way radio place will have scraps of SS rod from antennas.

I'm going to make one that does not require a 3D printer also. Hobby shops and hardware stores often sell brass and stainless rods and tubing.

Hello sir i been watching lots of your videos, And this one has me puzzled ( My New Favorite! Crystal Radio with Antenna Tuner ) you have ( 2 in one coil ) the first coil is the other coul apart of the same winding wire? I know there is a gap in between but is it one wire that make them both up? ..... This is what i making One turner coil...... And one antenna coil....... I'm wanting to put a variable capacitor to trim the antenna coil can i add the variable capacitor in between turner coil...... And one antenna coil..? .....( Thank you for all your great video i show a lot of young girl and boy here in the Philippines your video! This is a ding art!!

This radio coil is 1 piece of wire from left to right side. The "My New Favorite! Crystal Radio with Antenna Tuner" radio has 2 separate coils, one for the antenna and one for the tuner. They are 2 pieces of wire that are NOT connected (they can be jumpered, but I don't show that). I don't know if adding a capacitor between the coils will work or not, I have never tried that. It would be an easy experiment for you to try, just use jumpers to see if it works, and if so, wire it in permanently. A suggestion for the steel wool, inside the ball... I am playing with a Joule Thief, in a flashlight format... All I have for the flashlight body is a medicine bottle (lots and lots of medicine bottles,) which is a bit large. So, I used pieces of copper solder sponge to make the positive and negative battery contacts. Just add wire leads. Works well for continuity and for forming around the batteries to clamp them in place. Obviously, avoid using so much copper sponge that you create a short. Avoid plastic sponges that are just coated with something that looks like copper. IIRC, I got mine from the Dollar [Plant Name] (USA) and it is fully copper. Plant name withheld, to avoid TH-cam sensor.

20 Dollars?! Man just look for diodes here in Europe. They used Germanium here for much longer than they did in the USA. A lot of germanium diodes were made, and I mean A LOT. They were used in TV detectors for video, mixers, early varicap-lookalikes even. Types start with AAxxx to OAxx with either 2 or 3 numbers like "OA85" or "OA5" (really old one) or "AA119"

If you want, you can smack that crystal with a hammer and chisel and break it into smaller pieces. I got my big chunk of Fool's Gold from a Rock Shop near Blowing Rock North Carolina.
