Lore be Damned! Terminator Techmarine KITBASH for Warhammer 40K

- If it's got a 2+ save, it can wear Terminator Armour, that's my flimsy justification for the Space Marine Terminator Techmarine kitbash. Why I built a Thunderfire Cannon? I don't recall.
Apologies for the second Space Marine build video in a row, the pile of Leviathan plastic was starting to eat away at my soul, and I didn't fancy learning all the new names of the bugs! So, a Terminator Techmarine was the obvious choice for the next kitbash.

Just a heads up, Zinge Industries make some resin gear edge trim pieces that are SUPER easy to use for pauldrons
Ahh, I'd not seen those before. Brilliant, thanks!
In second edition I added a terminator with heavy flamer to my death company. I tried to justify it by saying he had fallen to the black rage right as they were heading out so there was no way of getting him out of the terminator armour and into regular marine armour.
Some people actually let me play against them with that model. It was fun charging around the board cooking units until he was inevitably ripped to shreds in a hail of gunfire.
Hiding those that have fallen to the black rage in backline roles is weirdly logical!
Terminator Techmarine: it is such an obvious upgrade when I see it. This is a fantastic bit of work. The Kataphron kit's little servo arms are great for cybernetics and servitors.
I'm honestly amazed that GW haven't done a full suite of Terminator characters. I suppose there's the Deathwing Apothecary, but that's about it beyond the Captain model. The upside is we don't have 42 different Terminator Lieutenant models! And yeah, the Kataphron kit is a godsend for Kitbashing.
As a lore nerd, I always refer back to the ancient prophecy and decree from the first days of yor.
"The rule of cool, triumphs over all!"
Ferrus manus was basically wearing terminator armour with a servo harness.
I think one of the big problems with 40k is that the possibility space for what could exist in the setting is pretty much infinite, but the freedom for players to engage with it outside of limited cases, is very minimal.
Yeah, I couldn't agree more. I guess I'm a bit more old-school than most, as I started playing with a group during 2nd Edition that still treated it like Rogue Trader, so there were proxies and home-brew units all over the place.
Perturabo was also literally wearing terminator armor (at least that's what he designates it) and apothecaries can be termies so why not techmarines.
GW has also had a habit of deliberately hard-coding limitations to what is possible. For no other reason than because "we don't, at this very moment, sell that thing". So they make it so "that thing" does not and _can never_ exist by the arbitrary rules of the setting.
@@Bluecho4 That's exclusively 40k. 30k gives you the opportunity to give your units whatever the fuck you want (even if they don't provide all of it in the box) and basically says: "You want a Jump-Pack Praetor with a Thunder Hammer and an Archeotech pistol? Sure, here's the rules for it. Have fun!"
@@Bluecho4 That is GW after the Chapterhouse lawsuit. Basically they have to have a model for every rule they publish or somebody could contest their rights to that if they bring a model to market first. No more looted wagons for Orks or any of the other fun stuff you had to convert. There HAS to be a model GW sells for legal reasons now.
That exhaust bit, yet again, comes from the Kataphron Destroyers box🤣
For a guy with 3 videos, the quality is top tier. Is this your first YT channel? Or do you have experience with filming/editing?
Stoked to see more!
Thanks dude. This is my second channel, I've been a creator in the Sim Racing space for a few years, so I've had a bit of practice!
Another upload means a great day
Agreed!
We will watch your career with great interest.
Thanks!
Your scratchbuilding and fresh ideas are breathing life into 40k. Please keep this up! Very much looking forward to your future my friend.
Ah thanks man, such kind comment to wake up to!
good advice, good production value, and no stupid speed painting gimmicks. subbed
Thought you could hide from me huh! From sim racing to warhammer I’m here for you’re style not the content. Love it
Haha - not so much hiding as taking a break ;)
This video surprised me, I learned about new materials, I'll have to try some of that chilled stuff.
youve so rapidly become tied for my very favorite 40k conversions channel, incredible conversions and editing
Thanks for the kind words, theyre very much appreciated!
Beyond an amazing build this is just outstanding visual storytelling! You’re brilliant!
A Terminator Techmarine is such a cool idea! there should totally be more terminator characters, terminator armour is great
You know what I'll tell you? This is brilliant. I have already come to the conclusion that for collecting, building, conversions and miniature painting, such nonsense as “current tabletop rules” cannot be a limitation.
Rules flicre, miniatures are eternal.
Or what? In an infinite galaxy there cannot be my custom Chapter where everything is possible?
I want to say: Warhammer has long outgrown Games Workshop, they cannot stop a true artist’s creativity, because they themselves opened these floodgates!
Thanks! GW built the monster, I fully intend to use it however I see fit! :D
Your editing is so on point and fresh, I love it! Amazing model and great video ❤
Thanks dude, much appreciated. I have a lot of fun with the edit!
This is a really cool idea and I am surprised that it’s not got more views
Thanks dude. I think I need to make the appropriate sacrifice to the algorithm!
This video is simply amazing and the efforts you put in it - undoubtedly great. Breathtaking job 👏👏👏
This is really really good! entertaining slightly unhinged voice over, skillful demonstration, good pacing. and zero "reactions" or clickbait. 5 stars!
I consider myself a lore nerd and... Terminator techmarine sounds BADASS!
Just getting into modelling with plasticard for some of my conversions and oddly enough I'm in the middle of building a Legion Forge Lord in Cataphractii armour for my Heresy Ultramarines. This video was great and gave me some really helpful tips for modelling with plasticard in general. Keep up the awesome work!
lore be damned is the best way to go about kitbashes, it enables you to be way more creative!
NO!! You can't remove the Crux Terminatus! All the other terminators will laugh at him. The shame would be unbearable.
"Hahaha, he has no crux terminatus! Point at him and laugh."
Incredable conversioon, really wasn't expecting the gun to be mostly scratch buit like that but seeing it come together like that was amazing. If I didn't allready have the parts to make one in mk3 armour I'd be very tempted to have a go at making an iron warriors terminaator techmarrine now
Earned yourself a sub :D
This was actually delightful to watch. You have a very unhinged style of editing for a kitbash/painting video, but it honestly adds a lot of charm and character to the video. I don't play 40k but I love collecting and painting the minis- kitbashing my own cool guys is one of my favorite parts of the hobby. Seeing builds like this is always wicked cool and I look forwards to more!
Again cracking video, you can use them as rapier batteries in heresy.
Not a bad shout. I've not played a lot of Heresy tbh, but it's probably a better solution than using the old Space Crusade Rapier I have knocking about!
production value is crazy
As of now, I've been sharing your videos like a madman. The quality of the videos and the actual zoggin' projects is absolutely top notch. I'm still awed by your Mega Gargant build.
Thanks man, I really appreciate it!
@@OffbeatBuilds Honestly man, your content makes me want to get into editing and sharing my journey as well. It's so Gork damn inspiring and uplifting. 😅
Absolutely phenomenal, everything is on point in this video and you've given me some great ideas for a scratch built legion rapier battery.
Gracias! Scratchbuilding big guns is very satisfying, they come together really quickly.
Very nice production quality mate! Reminds me that I had a Techmarine/Thunderfire Cannon video planned for my army a million years ago but other stuff pushed it down the schedule. Looking forward to seeing more from you down the line! 😎👍
Thanks dude, very much appreciated.
Exhaust part is from the Khatathron kit also.
This is amazing and puts me in hopes to convert up one of my Leviathan Terminators sqds into a Command Sqd to lead my 1st Company.
Just found this vid, 11/10 for getting straight in, funny jokes and quality content, thanks!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Push comes to shove you can just De-base both, slap them on a 80mm base, and call it a Firestrike Servoturret
Great video, both entertaining as well as informative. You've definitely got a knack for this!
Thanks for the kind words, much appreciated!
This was useful to my efforts to kitbash a techmarine, since I was looking to use the breacher kit to similar ends.
Awesom3 stuff! Fantastic hobbying, editing and humour.
Thanks dude, glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic! Now to rebuild the Thunderfire Cannon as a Whirlwind proxy!
Great idea. I'll add it to the spreadsheet of things I'd love to build but there aren't enough hours left in my life to do so!
I legitimately started wondering about making a Terminator Techmarine yesterday, must be a more popular concept than I realized!
when i first saw your videos i was shocked to discover you had only done 3 real top notch stuff
Love it. Totally looks like it belongs in the setting.
Love it! Right up my street! I might have to have a go at a much simpler version of this myself 👍 very entertaining mate, thanks for the video!
My gravis techmarine approves of this conversion.
So glad I found your video. I've been planning a thunderfire cannon conversion with the Kataphron tracks for a while so will learn from you on building the rest. Thanks! Following along for more 👍🏻
that is a really nice idea making a terminator techmarine. don't know why gw never did that. I think it sounds like a good plan for my space marine army that I will get to eventually ;)
I've never seen your videos, but man I love them! The editing, voiceover work, the projects. Got my sub! Keep up the smashing work!
"rest of the owl it" :D love it when youtubers speak my language. More videos please, very entertaining stuff
Supprised you dont have more subs, this is great 👍
Thanks dude. This is only video #3, so I'm pretty surprised the number of subscribers is so high to be honest. It took me the better part of 20 videos to get to this stage on my old channel, so I'm very happy with the way things are going!
These builds are amazing! I cannot wait to see what you do next.
It may not be plausable but it's extremely cool
Thanks dude, I'll take cool over plausible any day of the week!
Man the quality of your videos is insane, especially for such a new channel!
Another great job. Very cool! 👍🏻
great work! Good video quality and such a sweet conversion!
Thanks dude, much appreciated.
Great video with good pacing and nice editing, the model looks really cool too
Man please make more! Request kitbash Bjorn the fell-handed from a redemptor!
Really cool tutorial. 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
I thank the Omnissiah for showing me this video. Instant follow.
Gracias!
These videos are amazing! and so fun to watch
Thanks!
Nice one. Make it a character, something aching to the other various ludicrous characters out there. Lorewise, that's cool in my book.
Astounding conversion & scratchbuild, expecially the Thunderfire's one. With more realistic proportions it could became a RC fire support drone for Stargrave or other hard sci-fi oriented figures, love expecially how well done was gun's support. Only problem could be finding the tracks, perhaps some economical dollar store toys could resolve the matter✌.
Great vid, build and paint job! Really enjoyed it. :)
Thanks Squonkles (a word I'm certain I've never typed before!).
I think the Aquila bit you used is from the space marine drop pod kit, that attaches to the outside of the door.
if anyone is wondering what the block of metal with a fuck ton of holes in it is its a tool used to take out a tailstock spindle (yes I did google that despite knowing what it looks like and using one in school)
you have given me inspiration
That was awesome great job...
Technically a tasset hangs down from the cuirass or fauld. I'm gonna say that's just an additional layer of cuiss.
Heh, thanks - TIL!
The exhaust piece is also a kataphron bit... I have built too many of them not to know lol
They're one of the best admech kits by far
I thought it might be, but I'd been editing for days at that stage and started to lose my mind! :D
hello, Lore nerd here. I'm here to police your kit bashes. Nah jk I love this! I'm of the opinion if you can justify doing it and you want to do it give it a shot. The lore exists as a back drop for creativity and this is a fantastic example.
I know what you mean with paperclips. I went to brass wire and it's such a huge difference!
Epic Video
can you show us what equipment/materials you use pls
Thanks dude. Yeah, that's a good idea!
Cool idea
Where did you get the flexible coiled wire you used for the techmarine? That stuff looks awesome.
It's from a UK company called Zinge Industries - www.zinge.co.uk/
They make a lot of very useful conversion bits - no affiliation, just a happy customer.
When it comes to bending the styrine parts I have found on other projects like gundam Heating them up with a lighter But from a decent distance so they don't melt But just enough to where they get wobbly So you can press it against the part And make it hold it's shape And then you glue it on
Tzeentch industries: here to make a change
I for one as a lore nerd believe that All space marine specialists should be able to wear terminator armor if they have the Crux Terminatus.
Yes, I do include the Scout Sergeant if they have the crux Terminatus. If they want to. If the chapter dares.
If they can sneak around in full dreadnought armor, all the better for them.
Same with chaos, BUT, everyone in chaos terminator armor should automatically be considered champions /veterans as well, because chaos is all about upward momentum, and if you can't keep your terminator armor in battle, you don't deserve it.
Awesome stuff!!
Subbed!!! Cool AF love your work
LOL! "gun sight, camera, machine spirit googly eyes thing"
Absolutely amazing! Thanks for sharing your work! Just a question for you; The Flexible coiled wire, how thick is it? Also, the width of the styrene rings that you cut to go over the tubes?
Is that Aquilla that you put on front to the Thunderfire cannon, is that from the Land Raider kit?
Thanks dude. I can't remember where the Aquilla is from exactly, it may be the Storm Talon kit? I don't think it's a Land Raider, as I've not built one of those in a few years. The copper coiled wire is around 1mm diameter, and the tube was Evergreen 2.4(OD)x1(ID), I think pack number 223 (or 523... either way it ends in 23!).
Oh thats awesome info! Thanks@@OffbeatBuilds ! Im going to look into it right now! Really appreciate it!
As a lore nerd, there should be terminator techmarines.
Great work dude, these look amazing 👍🏻
Gracias dude, much appreciated!
the exhaust is also from the kataphron kit ^^
Very cool video! Subbed!
Could you go over some of the tools you use like that metal block with magnets and other tools
For sure, I detailed these in a couple of the earlier videos (Gargant and ATV build). But the blocks are called 3x2x1 Blocks. They're used by machinists for clamping materials down on milling machines and the like. But they're super useful for assembling sheet material as they're heavy, square and magnetic. It's like having a couple of extra pairs of hands!
Lore be damned indeed! I'm working on a Techmarine Dreadnought. If you can have Librarians and Chaplains interred in their own setup, why not Techmarines? Or even Apothecaries? :D
I'd love to see you turn some of the new Leviathan terminators into either warp smiths or sorcerers.
Wait a sec... it's been a minute since I took advanced calculus, but.. 40% + 40% = ... 80%? What's the other 20% made of? Despair?
Yeah, calculus never prepared me for copy / paste errors!
40% green stuff. 40% milliput.
The math checks out.
So yeah, why did they remove this dataslate again? Awesome conversion! I remember when this guy came out in 5th, such a cool model (metal, not finecast!)
Indeed, not sure why I referred to it as finecast in the video. The 5th edition codex was such a big step forward at the time, I got a lot of milage out of it. I don't remember using the Thunderfire much though!
I miss the days when we had Techmarines, Apothecaries, Ancients, and Champions in ALL configs Termies, Bikes, Jetpacks, Artificer each with a different set of weapon and additional wargear choices...pedantic purists piss me off too, I mean seriously as long as the squad represents itself consistently with the profile sheet I am totally cool with whatever, actually prefer it because if I wanted a game with strict limitations I would play chess
Ugh, I know how you feel about the purists. When I started back in 8th my local group basically pretended the open play section of the book didn't even exist.
All I wanted to do was give my primaris captain a plasma rifle instead of a bolt rifle but *nooo,* it was this big problem.
Like I was asking to, rules wise, play him as a perfectly legal firstborn captain with combi-plasma and sword. Then proxy in my primaris cap modeled with a plasma rifle and sword, never using the bolter part of the combi-weapon profile so as to pretend it's just a plasma.
But I couldn't get a single person to even understand what I was getting at, let alone let me use it. 😅 Kinda one of the things that killed my interest in the hobby.
Why did you take the crux terminatus off of the shoulder?
Good question! I went back and forth on that one. There's not really room to have both the Crux Terminatus and the battlement style shoulder pad edges that are iconic parts of the Techmarine look. I decided it would look lopsided if I only did one shoulder pad, so that meant the Crux had to go. Rule of cool beats the lore every time for me.
@@OffbeatBuilds the trim does look nice. Yeh it probably would look off center
I honestly love this idea so much I'm disappointed it isn't reflected in the rules! But then, who honestly cares about those
Heh, quite! I think most 40K fans probably fall into that category to be honest - the competitive players, and the purists are smaller but more vocal groups. It's all good, we all enjoy the game/system/lore/toys in our own way.
Everything mechanicus
Mechanicus is better than the imperium
No doubt!
Proxy it as a strikefire servo turret.
Hadn't thought of that, not a bad shout at all!
40% Green Stuff. 40% Milliput, 20% Moxy?
20% hopes and dreams!
Bravo!
Gracias!
I ran into similar issues adding plasticard details to a curved surface. I've found 0.25mm aluminum or brass works much better for this
Vulkite pistol let's gooooo!
wall-e isn't messing around anymore
I'm upset because you missed the chance of calling it the techminator!
That... that's an oversight. Dang! :D
The 'lore masters' shouldn't have a problem with this anyway, Techmarines could take Terminator armour as an upgrade in 2nd edition (and I think 4th?)
Rule of cool still wins!
