Yes I’m halfway through and it’s driving me nuts. At least I’m on TH-cam and can see what’s going on which helps follow the conversation. It must sound like incomprehensible background noise on an audible only platform.
Love the podcast, listen regularly- wanted to make a clarification on the NSX. Matt mentions “no more hard tops after 96/97. The Zanardi came out in 1999 and it’s a coupe (I know limited to 51 units) but there are also a few non-Zanardi US market coupes out there until the cars were facelifted. Also, are you guys aware of NSXPO in Dallas at the end of October?
1:25:07 that guy's driving is gonna get someone hurt. I was driving along with my pal and saw him coming behind us in his 750S (which was covered in painters tape) and the guy made like 3 sketch passes on blind corners, he simply couldn't wait for a straight for other cars to pull off and decided to pass everyone in the most unsafe way imaginable.
I don't know if I'm partially responsible but I definitely told an Aptera rep to have you drive the car. I don't think it's very smart of them to have you drive a non-production intent one though.
1:02:37 The early Gallardo 5.0's are not shit, they just ate Cat's. So on overrun all the particles get sucked back. The Murcis of the same year do this too. Change to a modern Cat and its fixed. The 5.0 sounds better than the 5.2 too, they have a howl which the 5.2 doesn't match. Matts urban myth that those are worthless is based on his rental car days 20 years ago when the only replacement was s stock Cat. If Matts man math was true they would be worthless or swapping 5.2 in. Early R8 suspension is no longer sold, so you have to change all 4 corners to the newer version. That is a thing.
Matt keeps talking about 2004 Gallardos being shit which I'm sure they are, but the Audi update to the engine to change the firing order and go from 5.0 to the 5.2 we all know and love didn't happen for a few years. Isn't 2008 the first year for the LP model facelift?
The father of my friend in high school was a wine distributor. We hung out in her basement after most summer cross country practices. There were boxes of wine and liquor, everywhere.. Somehow we never thought to go crazy with some alcohol.
1:10:27 GR Corolla engines have pretty obviously been money shifted. Many have admitted to it prior to these latest stories going around. Apparently it's not hard to do. Also note that the latest two stores are completely void of many details, and lacking evidence to support the two driver's claims. They're not telling us everything they've been told by Toyota, and they're misrepresenting things that are obviously not really true. The one does mention the specific speed of 114mph being documented in the DME. That's an important detail, because according to the gear ratios in the training documents, 114mph is just above redline in 4th gear. Which almost certainly means they went for 5th gear on a rip, and grabbed third, then the rod decided to eject itself from the block to get some fresh air. 😂 Don't believe these stories. All of these money shifted engines have the exact same internal engine damage/hole in the block. If these engines had a defect, we would have known about it a LONG time ago. Think 991.1 GT3 rod pin defect. The first cars weren't on the street a week and multiple had gone boom. It doesn't take 2 years for a catastrophic defect of this nature to show up. These owners just don't want to admit they F'D up, and probably can't afford the repair bill. So now they're likely upside down on an unusable car, that they overpaid for at the ridiculously insane height of the market. Would also be interesting to know if they were behind on their payments at the time this happened. But that's irrelevant to the cause of failure. $-shift
It’s a fair point you bring up about only knowing one side of the story. But there’s nothing in Toyota’s response about misshifts or redline which would be the primary thing they’d focus on if it were an issue they saw. Instead they focus weirdly on the tire speed aspect. May be a case of people omitting something but also it’s weird what we’ve seen of Toyota’s response nonetheless.
@@Accost2u we haven't seen even Toyota's complete response. We've only seen quoted snippets taken out of context, and only what the owners provided. Why haven't the owners provided the actual communications and documents? 🤔🤷 Because they're clearly hiding something they didn't want us to know. I have over 20 years of experience dealing with situations just like this. Odds Toyota is at fault here is about one in a billion. But these stupid nobody's on TH-cam are acting like a bunch of primates, incapable of logical thought processes, and completely ignorant of how these things generally go down. They're just armchair quarterbacks rooting for the underdog. Which is sometimes admirable, but always void of any rational logic.
@@louKushh way to let everyone know that you don't understand the fundamental differences between some machining debris causing bearing wear, and a rod ejecting itself through a block. The two situations are completely different. Also on the point of over rev reports, I wonder why the owners of these two now infamous cars haven't let us see the over rev reports? Why haven't they shown us the actual documents they received from Toyota corporate? Hmmmm....🤔 One of the two owners mentioned a report stating the very specific 114mph. Do you know what speed has been logged in multiple GRC over revs? Why, it's 114mph! Just slightly over redline in 4th gear! Or what would often be set in the rev reports when one grabs 3rd instead of 5th! You are ignoring the obvious facts, and how nothing about this should logically lead you to believe that those engines just randomly gernaded a rod through the block. Odds of a mechanical defect like this existing are virtually zero. Odds of GRC owners money shifting, millions if not billions of times higher.
