Nice list! Something I've found most useful when planning battles is the importance of flanking and pinning ranged units or units with ranged abilities.
For example, in your battle, had you been able to flank the Nymph and pin it, it wouldn't have been able to perform it's Seduce ability to mind-control your unit since it can only do it from range and needs 3 action points. It's only option would've been to either stay in place and go into defense mode or move away and take an opportunity attack and fire a magic bolt. It's why I find movement-based buffs and abilities so helpful because it really opens up the kind of strategies you can perform in battle.
Looking forward to the advanced tips!

Hehe, I have the list for the follow up video already done, #2 reads: "Pinning & Control Zones" :D I just felt like these mechanices were more fitting in an advanced video where I can go deeper into unit roles and such. Thanks for the comment, this is a real good explanation/example of utilizing the pinning well.

I just got surprise attacked in the most recent Game I'm having.
They were a good 800 Points above my army, it was a hellish battle that I won by only losing 3 of my 8 units, for reference it was arout Turn 50.
The fine handling and strategy can cross raw power to a degree.

Summon units to the back line, especially once the enemies front line has been engaged. I have an ability the let's me cast two spells in one turn, once per battle (and an ability that let's me do any once per battle ability twice) so I can engage with an enemy and then cast the same summoning spell twice and in two turns have 4 powerful units rampaging across the back line while the enemy front is locked. Brilliant gambit 😁

    1: Wait for it
    2: Action, not reaction
    3: Know thy enemy
    4: Mix it up
    5: no man left behind
    6: Give them nothing
    7: Kill the killers
    8: scissors beats paper
    9: Paper beats rock
    10: rock beats scissors

If the enemy starts to retreat and you are prompted to allow them and claim victory now or stay and fight them, is there a difference in how this may affect troop XP? I mean, do they get XP for the actual attacks or is it more general and divided for everybody if they survive the battle?

Nice summary! The last tip is particularly important and not necessarily apparent

Thanks! The last tip is actually imported way back from Master Of Magic, which had very similar unit casualty mechanics ^^

Age of wonders 3 if you attacked an enemy they wouldn't go on offensive. They wouldn't assume defensive posture making it harder to deal with them. The new AI is so aggressive. My halfings are soo defensive. It crazy. However the angient wonders can be soo deadly when they are aggressive.

Admittedly I never played any AoW part before. This AI in this one is really pretty good all in all, it even tries to utilize it's own formation bonuses and all. I like it a lot for the PvE feeling

@Ic0nGaming it's hit or miss(new game). I think more experienced players could easily win after playing so much(old game). This one, I just used my defensive stances and was surprised that they initiated combat. They do use all their stances. But in Aow 3, if enemies like the unicorn or any enemy that had phase. They would definitely teleport to your leader or most vulnerable unit. In the new game, I like that I can be defensive. I usually had a problem with keeping units. Especially if I didn't have heals. Bolster, tenacious, and shield buffs are fun. Plus, the ability to strip bolsters to gain strengthen that can stack up to 5 times is great. Think the game is probably brutal in pvp. I haven't tried it yet.
