What makes George the greatest is that he's the most pure. He doesn't need a big expensive show, just put him in front of a microphone with the spotlight on and that's all he needs because he's that great of a singer.
The cream of the crop doesn't need gimmicks to draw an audience. Some people (like George Straight) are simply a gift to us all, filled with pure, natural talent. How lucky we are that he is a part of our generation.
George's "SIGNATURE SONG" and this is the BEST version I have ever heard of it! No wonder the crowd loved it so much. I grew up on 50's and 60's rock and roll but I keep coming back to listen to this beloved song that even George loves, too.
And Terry Stafford did the song originally in 1973. Also wrote it. Strait did it in 1982 , and that is the one everybody seems to remember. Strait did good on it , but Stafford was the creator. He had a big hit in 60's with "Suspicion", which Elivis covered also. .
Love this song and that fiddle is so awesome! Gives me goosebumps. George this song is just magnificent! It’s one of your very best and a favorite of mine!!!
My family traveled to New Mexico every summer. One year my precious Granny went with us and kept asking my mom what's this next town we're heading to? Beautiful memories, and a beautiful song. ❤🙏
I remember this concert. I was in the crowd with my momma and daddy. Was one of the best concerts I've ever been to. George is the epitome of troubadour.
I got my degree in audio engineering in 1975. I've done a lot of live recording over the years, but this one's a beautiful. Just excellent sound quality!
The guy that originally wrote a recorded this song is from Amarillo Texas. He graduated from the same high school I did and is buried here in Amarillo. His name is Terry Stafford. He was a friend of my friends brother. George just made it even more popular and took it to the top of the charts years after it was a rock song.

Tim you are a wonderful person and I think you are a great singer , I love country music . A fan from the UK ,,God bless keep this beautiful music going .
Terry Stafford's words and George Straight's delivery perfectly convey the pain, loss, and futility of the cowboy chasing his dream. By the time that fiddle comes in at the end, if your eyes aren't welling up, you weren't paying attention.

I’ve done it, I could pick up WBAP from Ft Worth hundreds of miles down I-20 and I could pick up KOMA in Oklahoma City all the way to LA. But I wasn’t in a truck just traveling.
I have had three marriages, first gave me two kids and we lost their mother and I raised them by myself. Then I met a lady and fell for her. Turned out to be hell on earth but I made it 26 years before walking away and giving her the ranch and taking only my truck, dog, and saddle. After a bad spell in East Texas I met a lady from a ranch 60 miles south of Amarillo. We both rodeoed, her as a barrel racer and break away and I roped calf's. Happy now, love each other and spend a lot of time with the horses and some cattle, swapping rodeo stories, horses we've had, people we knew and just enjoying our lives. Oh yeah, it ain't a country western band without a fiddle.

I'm Brazilian but when I listen to this song I feel like a simple Texan cowboy with a dream of being a rodeo champion
George is so perfect, his guitar, his hat, his long sleeve shirts and his voice, be still my heart, and that fiddle player, big ups! I wanted to see him this weekend, but my Dr. said no, so I have to watch on You Tube.
😊😊I'm very pleased to know I'm not the only one that loves the song but when last did you play it.
Hi Ellen
If I had the chance to see G.S. no Dr could keep me away.🤷♀️
Your doctor's only job is to keep you alive and tell you to do whatever he things will foster that. It's YOUR job to live. Being alive but not living....not my thing but you do you. TH-cam is a decent fill-in I suppose.
Nice song by George... your comment is very interesting to view, i hope you are doing well??
Im 42 and was lucky enough to see George a couple times in my teens, legend
i live in boston........found this song two years ago....after Ken Burns.....i listen to it almost every saturday night. i pray for everybody in Texas during this cold nightmare
I'm from Boston and I moved to Texas in 1978..and lord I'm free...

I'm not an American, but I wish I was. The older generation of American Country music is my favourite. George Strait portrays the statute and characteristics of a true American Gentleman and his music is phenomenal. God bless America sung by Lee Greenwood makes me feel patriotic on behalf of the great men and women who fought for the freedom of America. Listening to this great song August 2024. God bless America.
George Strait is one of a kind......I miss his pure country sound.
I'm not a country -western fan , but I love this song
Since he died?
What a true A+ Top of the Line Country Song. His voice, crying of that fiddle. 👍👍

This is my favorite song that he sings. His voice is mellow and smooth . It makes the song go to the top level.
Only artist I have ever seen live that doesn’t have to go above and beyond with dramatics. He sings and the song takes it from there. God Bless King George

This is THE song that made me a George Strait fan. And it's still my favorite of his.
What makes George the greatest is that he's the most pure. He doesn't need a big expensive show, just put him in front of a microphone with the spotlight on and that's all he needs because he's that great of a singer.
👊 bump this shit
fuckin' A man couldn't have said it better myself
Have loved George for many years!
what makes him up there with the greatest is that he will tell you that Merle Haggard was the greatest country singer ever.
I agree. I play this specific video because of how this version sounds.

This is why George Strait is THE KING! Pure Country!! I love this live. The only way I can hear country music as it should be😊💖💖💖💖👍👍👍👍👍
And Terry Stafford did the song originally in 1973. Also wrote it. Strait did it in 1982 , and that is the one everybody seems to remember. Strait did good on it , but Stafford
was the creator. He had a big hit in 60's with "Suspicion", which Elivis covered also. .

Not bad for a cover.

Only one George. His voice is as pure as Presley’s,can’t be imitated
Two kings, you said it buddy respect .
Honestly, Presley couldn't hold a candle to George.
Nobody in the world wears Wranglers like George 💞 and his voice is of angels!🥰
My family traveled to New Mexico every summer. One year my precious Granny went with us and kept asking my mom what's this next town we're heading to? Beautiful memories, and a beautiful song. ❤🙏

I came to Country music very late in my life, but George Strait is one reason I'm still enjoying this journey
I got my degree in audio engineering in 1975. I've done a lot of live recording over the years, but this one's a beautiful. Just excellent sound quality!
One violin lesson and I quit !!!
Taught you everything you know, but not everything they know.
Of course George is great, but his band, goodness! They are absolutely top notch musicians. Love this song!
Amazingly smooth transitions, they're so good.
@George strait close to Charlotte North Carolina thanks George
There's nothing like San Antonio, Tx and George Strait. 😻kat
The guy that originally wrote a recorded this song is from Amarillo Texas. He graduated from the same high school I did and is buried here in Amarillo. His name is Terry Stafford. He was a friend of my friends brother. George just made it even more popular and took it to the top of the charts years after it was a rock song.
One of the greatest country songs of all time.
No light show, no explosions but it grabs your heart and soul.
Its called talent !!
Yes! He just stands there and sings, and is amazing! As a performer and a person.
TRUE Talent , Real Musicians (WHO) harmonized their voices Pleasantly -----Don't need all that FLASH, Explosions, (audible attention deverters -pitiful voice covers). You know, When You can actually understand each english word they say with hamony).
Real country about real people

Still listening in 2020! Will never be another King George! Ever! He’s still rock in’ those starched wranglers and Stetsons! A man’s man.
what is in that shirt with him.he could not be comfortable

Still listening in 2021, it heals my soul.
I believe this one of the best sounding live performances!!
Terry Stafford's words and George Straight's delivery perfectly convey the pain, loss, and futility of the cowboy chasing his dream. By the time that fiddle comes in at the end, if your eyes aren't welling up, you weren't paying attention.
Well said
George como você é lindo, amo ❤suas músicas 🎶, te admiro
Still love Mr. Strait's music all these years later. ~ Amarillo by Morning a particular classic. ~ Peace to all from a city boy in Los Angeles, California.

He is the one who inspired me ever sense I listened to him I’ve been country like him and wanted to be a singer only 11 but I still am like him it’s been a blessing to have him when he passes away guess who’s coming Hunter sanders
Hello 👋...Pretty lady.🌹.How are you doing and the weather conditions like
Years as an Over the Road Driver. This song would get me from Cally (LA) to Amarillo in a heartbeat! Thanks George !🥰
Soo nice history, Amarillo must be beautiful
Love Amarillo by morning, classic country song. Hats off to the extremely talented "George Strait".
This song deserves an extended version. I could listen to this song for ten minutes. Please do an extended mix of this George!
