Alô Karrin, someone told that i Would be Proud with your interpretation of "O Barquinho", yes i'm totally Proud! You sang my song so beautifull! Thank You, Roberto Menescal
Roberto, it's an incredible song I love to play on gigs. There are many recordings of O Barquinho, this is truly in the top 2 or 3. Everything is right...!
Karin is such a fantastic artist. The depth of her committment to & understanding of jazz music is matched by the beauty of her instrument & her total immersion in the rhythm...
I have "In Blue"-it's probably the most AWESOME jazz female vocal Cd ever. I think I'll try some of this Brazilian music-she's a natural for this!! Thks for posting!!
Just saw her on Saturday for the umpteenth time (at the Green Mill in Chicago, which is one of my favorite clubs anywhere) and she was minus a piano player. She played more piano, and Rod Fleeman was on guitar (Danny Embrey is playing here). WONDERFUl show, as always; she's so inspiring. Never does the song the same way twice, and her next album will be a Brasilian-themed one! She never fails to make me smile and want to play more music.
My favourite of all the O Barquinhos I've heard. Unlike someone, I don't miss a sax here at all: Karrin's scat and Danny's solo do all that's needed to make this a really great performance.
Wonderful arrangement and singing! If I had yo take only one kind of music to an island it would be bossa nova. I have about 200 bossa LPs which would be just fine. Oh, a little factoid: bossa nova means "new wave"/"the new thing" Viva Brasil!!
That would be honestly a bit confusing for those of us that speak in the English language, as there is an entirely different genre of music that is also called New Wave, which, although also pleasant to listen to, is an entirely different genre than Bossa Nova.
@Hunter Mann, though you may be correct on what Bossa Nova means, those of us that are in English speaking countries already have a completely different genre of music that is called New Wave, and, although I like both genres of music, they are completely different in structure and style. I just figured that I would explain why those of us that are in English speaking countries retain your traditional name of Bossa Nova when it is referring to the genre of music from your country.
@ElCubanoConguero Dude I listen to those artists you mentioned and I love Diana Krall, but this is the best version of this song ive ever heard. Karrin may not be the best but she's right up there with the artists you mentioned and NO high school student unless well taught and practiced could ever do as well as Karrin.
Karrin is a very talented singer reminding me of a great deal of Claudette Soares in her style of singing but atleast here doesn't have enough passion. I like much more genuine passion in a singer doing this song. I prefer #1 Maysa's (1975), #2 Regina Elis's (1969) or #3Wanda Sa's (with Menescal) recordings of this tune. Guess it just depends on what gets your juices flowing & can bring tears to your eyes when it comes to a sensual female vocalist.
This hums, Dick. Trembles like an aspen in fall. You say you like "much more' genuine passion when this song is sung, Karin puts a heap of soul and sway into this, elegantly , and she makes it dance, ...but she's intelligent enough not to lard it on with a trowel. And who can match Elis Regina on anything? Considering Portuguese is not Karin's native tongue she nails this out of the park.
Karin makes every song her own. She's unbelievably under rated and under appreciated.
Wow FABULOUS .. woooooowwwwww. Covered in goosebumps..
More Karrin Allyson videos are needed, here. She is a very expresive, beautiful singer.

Danny Embrey is one of the best guitar players living. Amazing, beuitful guitar playing!!!!!
Karrin owns this piece!
Por Dios, que hermosa versión ¡
Tremenda interpretacion. Simplemente impecable.

I can only assume Astrid Gilberto was an early influence 😍
Solo una palabra: Bravo!
