Peace. Tajai from Souls here. First of all, I really appreciate the coverage. It is obvious that the creators of this page have at least a casual interest in our music and Hip Hop in general. That being said…check out the entire catalog (solo albums, all of Hiero’s catalog in fact), look at what we have achieved INDEPENDENTLY and CULTURALLY and please use a more qualified analysis of “success” than major label album sales. We own our masters, our label, lots of land, several businesses and throw the biggest Hip Hop festival in our city (where September 3rd, or 9/3 has been declared a city Holiday) which is now entering its second decade of existence. We employ hundreds of people and have been a beacon for so many (ask your favorite rappers who their favorite rappers are) who are interested in doing their thing OUTSIDE of the wicked, exploitative industry. As a result, we have had a lifelong, drama-free career of sold out tours, strong album sales and considerable earnings all while outlasting 99% of the people who came out in the era we came out in. Once again, much appreciation for the coverage and hope that you find the time to dig a little deeper into our catalog, the meaning of Hip Hop/rap music, our movement and our continued success. We still are active, have NEW music, young NEW fans, and are not looking to be some sort of pop sensation. We never have been interested in that route and as a result have had a longevity most artists (of all genres) could only dream off. Remember, “crossover ain’t nothing but a double-cross”. “‘Til Infinity” is a mentality and a lifestyle and we are SO thankful to live it. Thanks again and to any artists who may come upon this comment or this content, please check out the catalog and remember you can do it YOUR WAY and win BIG. Be brave, be bold and BE YOURSELF!

I remember buying 93 till Infinity along with KRS-ONE Return of the Boom-Bap back in 93. When "That's when your lost" aired on the box it was refreshing seeing a West coast group with a East coast vibe. The album was ahead of its time and unfortunately didn't get the praises it deserved. Salute for dropping this gem on such a fantastic West coast group.👏👏👏
Dope group who put out one of the dopest albums ever. The title cut always makes me teary-eyed with nostalgia because it perfectly captures what it was like to be in your 20's in the 90's.
The fact that most rap fans aren't aware of Hieroglyphic's music catalog; proves most rap music fans aren't into actual Hip-Hop music. Most rap music fans are just into what's being pushed by corporate music entities or what everyone else is listening to. Heiro got great music. These dudes will smoke you on the mic right now!
I remember hearing something back in the day about Jive Records interfering with the creation of the No Man's Land album. At the end of the day, going independent was a godsend for the whole Hiero crew.
You have to judge Souls of Mischief based upon the success of Heiroglyphics. Heiro are pioneers of the independent game on the internet with merch, videos, touring, streaming, exclusive tracks, etc. Their blueprint from the 90s is the basis for a lot of content creators, artist, musicians, and other independent businesses.
I still BLAST that track on a DAILY!!! Funny thing is my son stumbled across it and he has the same love for it as I do!!! He used to ask me what happened with them. I’m bout to send him this video! Great Work By You ❗️🙏🏼😎👍🏽

I can vividly remember my older cousin telling me about this group repeatedly and I was like nah they from the west, but he dropped their album off to me and I listened. I was blown away, and I always wondered why did they get bigger. Thanks for doing this one. Recommended this one.
I always felt they were the Coke type alternative to Pharcyde's Pepsi, like they were in the same vein if that makes sense. As if they were all outsiders on the fringe of hip hop.
Yeah. Night and day, honestly. I definitely think that Souls, Pharcyde and I'd add Freestyle Fellowship we're all outside of what people typically thought west coast music was at the time, but they all were very unique and vastly different from one another stylistically...
De La was one of the greatest hip hop groups of all time, right there with Tribe. They had at least 4 to 5 classic albums. They were a sucess from 1988 to mid 2000, and still doing shows now.
First Pharcyde now Souls of Mischief?! You delivered a 1,2 punch of intense nostalgia of my early teens. "93" til Infinity is probably my favorite Hip hop song next to "It ain't Hard to tell", and T.R.O.Y. ."93 til" is definitely my favorite instrumental I wore that Cassette single out! Lol
I really like this video being from the Bay in understand the person making it is speaking is speaking from a major commercial point a view but Souls did what the artists today could never do with their careers. Using a major for notoriety, keeping your masters and then leaving with no recourse. Although in the commercial aspect Souls looks like a small group but in the culture they are world widely respected. Every year in the Bay people come from across the world to Hiero Day put on by the Hieroglyphics crew. It’s a mix between concert, festival, art show and all out gathering of likeminded people to celebrate the forever growing movement. Major acts come and perform for free for Hiero day!

After getting dropped from Jive they formed their own label Hieroglyphics imperium and has since released their own records and toured extensively. and that sucks. . . .If Souls of Mischief was based on the East Coast I think they would have more support from other rappers to keep their shine on. I would've love if they were members of the Native Tongues alongside with Dela and Tribe Called Quest back in the day. The cool thing is, they all were on the cover on Tribe's Midnight Maurauders. Souls is doing a world tour in 2023 so I wouldn’t call them fallen off. Also they’ve made a lot more money with hiero emporium than they did on a major label.
I for longest time thought they were a east coast group when I found out they were west coast I didnt believe it at first. It all males sense now being that East Coast hip hop was there influence.
Don’t think this is a negative piece, it’s just when speaking on hiphop music culture (outside) of the mainstream there’s a lot happening there underneath. Hiero and Souls were INSTRUMENTAL in fostering the independent hiphop scene we see, as the result of being dropped/leaving. The lyrics driven sound that went underground post 99’ spawned so many other sub genres that created a Chance the Rapper & Kid Cudi. Historically you really can’t mention lyrical independent hiphop without mentioning the Heiroglyphics
Uhhh... Hiero is still very relative and doing WAYY BETTER. I wentbto school with some of Souls and they always been super talented. Might wanna change up a few things. Glad you acknowledged them.
One of the best hip hop "On The Air" battle was "The Heiiroglyphics" Vs "The Hobo Junction" Saafir's crew during Sway & King Tech "Wake Up Show"....yaw by not should know who won that battle....I let you guess. "Soul's Of Mischief" certainly earned their "Platinum Mic" from me.....They brought whitty, metaphoric rhymes with jazzed sampled influenced Boom Bap beats that made them stand out during the 1rst album. “Never No More” is my favorite song. Opio was the best
Del is Ice Cube’s cousin?
Opio went berserk on that
Yes. Del is Ice Cube's cousin.
@@shauncameron8390 Kam is too
I for longest time thought they were a east coast group when I found out they were west coast I didnt believe it at first. It all males sense now being that East Coast hip hop was there influence.
Did you do pharcyde?
Don’t think this is a negative piece, it’s just when speaking on hiphop music culture (outside) of the mainstream there’s a lot happening there underneath. Hiero and Souls were INSTRUMENTAL in fostering the independent hiphop scene we see, as the result of being dropped/leaving. The lyrics driven sound that went underground post 99’ spawned so many other sub genres that created a Chance the Rapper & Kid Cudi. Historically you really can’t mention lyrical independent hiphop without mentioning the Heiroglyphics
Hiero Iz Infinite 👑💯
If you like "Tribe Called Quest", "Company Flow", "The Artifacts' & "Unspoken Heard" then Soul's is your group....
(My Favorite Soul's Ttacks)
* "That's When You Lost"
* "Never No More (76' Seville Mix)"
* " 93' Til Infinitity"
* " Get The Girl Grab The Money & Run"
* " Step To My Girl"
💯✌❤💯✌❤✌💯
That battle had all the underground backpack b boy/girl rap fans buzzing back in the day
Company Flow was my shhh…ahead of their time

Do stunned growth Young Dro
Hiero👑 Iz Infinite, 💯
Souls of Mischief includes Tajai, Phesto, A+, and Opio ONLY. Pep Love, Domino, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Extra Prolific, and Casual are NOT part of Souls of Mischief; they’re all solo artists. Together they all form the hip-hop collective HIEROGLYPHICS. I couldn’t take anything in this video seriously after you failed to make this distinction. Please do your homework.🙄
Please do Black Sheep!
You should do Juvenile next
😱🏁
93’ Till Infinity is THE greatest hiphop song of ALL-TIME
Crucial Conflict would be a good group to do next
These dudes are international legends. What are yall talking about. Thus is why I don't like young nggz trying to ask " why they didn't blow up". There was no Internet, that's why. Other than that they blew up and are considered one of the greatest greatest crews of all times.
There was no stunted growth for souls of mischief or the whole hero crew.
Jive dropped the ball.
Agreed
When I think of Jive I think of Backstreet Boys and N'sync...Enough said.
