- From Season 3 of Walt Disney's Disneyland Anthology program we have Episode 2: The Great Cat Family which aired on September 19th, 1956. Opinions about cats are often divided. Some people love them, some hate them. Many people just fear them, for cats have gained a reputation that makes superstitious people reluctant to cross their paths. This look at the history of cats begins with the story of their ancestors in Egypt over 4,000 years ago. A full color version of the segment before Alice in Wonderland is available as a bonus feature on the Gold Collection Aristocats DVD release. Edited due to copyright are clips from the theatrical films, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella and Pinocchio. The short, Lambert the Sheepish Lion, which is edited out, is available on Disney+, several DVD releases and most notably, the Walt Disney Treasures DVD Tin: Disney Rarities.

They were right when they said cats weren't always rewarded for killing off mice, in fact a lot of cartoons make it look like a bad thing. Tom and Jerry, Sylvester, Pixie and Dixie, Mushmouse and Punkin Puss, the cats from Mighty Mouse, all cats are made to look like mean bullies and mice like innocent victims.

I believe "Lambert" can also be found on Disney Plus. The part of this program relating to cats and their connection with evil spirits was later featured in several Disney Halloween specials.

This episode was re-aired in color under the title, "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color" in 1962 and the end credits of this episode is completely different.
Yes! Well, it aired on Christmas Eve 1961 in Season 8, the debut season of WWoC. I’d love to find a copy of that airing!!!

The original Disney series with Walt as narrator to them seems timeless and wholesome. I wonder what Walt would think of Disney today 🤔
